Although Pb-based metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have excellent photoelectric characteristics, their toxicity remains a limiting factor for their widespread application. In the paper, a series of CsCuClxBr3-x (x = 1, 2, 3) MHP microcrystals were developed and their hydrogen evolution performance in ethanol and HX (X = Cl, Br) was also studied. Among them, CsCuCl3 microcrystals exhibit high hydrogen evolution performance in both HX and ethanol, attributed to their longest average lifetime and suitable band structure.

December 2024

Kirov Military Medical Academy, St. Petersburg, Russia.

The gut microbiota is a community of microorganisms that live in the digestive tract of living beings and form bidirectional symbiotic relationships with them. It is known that gut bacteria play an important role in maintaining the functioning of the host organism, and disruption in the normal composition of the gut microbiota can contribute to the development of many diseases. The study of microbiota has been gaining popularity in recent years, and its influence on the course of various pathological conditions is becoming more and more undeniable.

This paper presents the results of a study on the characteristics of semiconductor sensors based on thin SnO films modified with antimony, dysprosium, and silver impurities and dispersed double Pt/Pd catalysts deposited on the surface to detect carbon monoxide (CO). An original technology was developed, and ceramic targets were made from powders of Sn-Sb-O, Sn-Sb-Dy-O, and Sn-Sb-Dy-Ag-O systems synthesized by the sol-gel method. Films of complex composition were obtained by RF magnetron sputtering of the corresponding targets, followed by technological annealing at various temperatures.

To prepare novel biodegradable copolymers with functional substituents that are distributed statistically or randomly over the macromolecule chain and have improved characteristics compared to homopolymers, we conducted a series of synthetic experiments with a novel cyclic monomer, 5-(benzyloxy)-1,3-dioxepan-2-one (). This compound was synthesized, and its homopolymer, as well as its copolymers with L-lactide, ε-caprolactone and trimethylene carbonate, were prepared in a polymerization solution with stannous octoate as the initiator. The formation of the copolymers was confirmed using NMR spectroscopy and DSC data.

Mass-spectrometry-based assays nowadays play an essential role in biomedical research and clinical applications. There are different types of commercial mass spectrometers on the market today, and triple quadrupole (QqQ) is one of the time-honored systems. Here, we overview the main areas of QqQ applications in biomedicine and assess the current level, evolution, and trends in the use of QqQ in these areas.

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) plays a key role in the pathogenesis of central nervous system disorders, and MAO inhibitors have been used in the treatment of depression and Parkinson's disease. In the search for new classes of MAO inhibitors, the present study investigated a series of 1,2,4-oxadiazin-5(6)-one derivatives. This study provides the first optimization of the reaction conditions for the condensation of amidoximes with alkyl 2-halocarboxylates to yield the desired 1,2,4-oxadiazin-5(6)-ones.

3D-printed microporous titanium scaffolds enjoy good biointegration with the residuum's soft and bone tissues, and they promote excellent biomechanical properties in attached prostheses. Implant-associated infection, however, remains a major clinical challenge. Silver-based implant coatings can potentially reduce bacterial growth and inhibit biofilm formation, thereby reducing the risk of periprosthetic infections.

Could Be a Promising Marker for Preoperative Diagnosis of High-Grade Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma?

Diagnostics (Basel)

November 2024

Department of the Structure and Function of Chromosomes, Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk 630090, Russia.

Background/objectives: A modern classification distinguishes between two nosological entities posing an intermediate risk between differentiated and anaplastic carcinoma: poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma and differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma. There are currently few studies searching for the preoperative molecular genetic markers of high-grade papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC HG), primarily because of a recent WHO reclassification and singling out of a separate entity: high-grade follicular cell-derived nonanaplastic thyroid carcinoma. Therefore, this work was aimed at identifying PTC HG-specific microRNAs and mRNAs that reliably distinguish them from differentiated papillary thyroid carcinoma in preoperative cytology specimens (fine-needle aspiration biopsies).

We aim to evaluate stone-free rate (SFR) and complications after flexible ureteroscopy (F-URS) for kidney stones, using a flexible and navigable suction ureteral access sheath (FANS), comparing thulium fiber laser (TFL) and high-power holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser (HPHL). Data from adults who underwent F-URS in 15 centers were prospectively analyzed (August 2023-January 2024). Exclusion criteria were ureteral stones, concomitant bilateral procedures, and renal abnormalities.

In the framework of SMD approach a systematic computational study of structural, electronic and thermodynamic properties of molecular complexes of Cl, ICl and I with series of N-containing Lewis bases in solvents of different polarity was carried out. Results indicate that molecular complexes of Cl with strong and medium-strong LB undergo spontaneous ionization in the acetonitrile solution. The increase of the solvent polarity can change the nature of interaction in X'XLB systems from molecular X'X ← LB donor-acceptor complexes to 3-center 4-electron bound X'→X ← LB in solvents of medium polarity and to the contact ion pairs X'→[XLB] in polar solvents.

Cocrystallization of CuI with NCNMe in the presence of substituted perfluoroarenes─iodoperfluorobenzene (IFB), 4,4'-diiodoperfluorobiphenyl (4,4'-FIBP), and 4-bromoperfluorobenzonitrile (4-BrFBN)─led to the formation of three types of adducts ·2(IFB), ·4,4'FIBP, and ·4-BrFBN ( is CuI(NCNMe)), all studied by X-ray crystallography. In these cocrystals, the coordinated nitrile N atom (whose electron pair is engaged in metal coordination) still acts as an electron donor, forming π-hole interactions, specifically, π-hole···N, with the perfluoroarenes. These interactions were examined in the context of their occurrence alongside other interactions involving C atoms of the electron-deficient aromatic rings and nucleophilic atoms of the copper cluster.

The functional diversity structure of a community can be represented as a combination of three additive components (species dominance D, functional redundancy R, and functional diversity Q) (DRQ approach in which different facets of functional differences between species are considered simultaneously). We applied this concept to assemblages of fleas and gamasid mites parasitic on small mammals at continental (across regions of the Palearctic) and regional (across sampling sites in Slovakia) scales and asked: What are the relative effects of host species, biome/habitat type, and geographic locality on the DRQ composition of a parasite assemblage? At the continental scale, regions were partitioned according to predominant biome or geographic position in a continental section. At the regional scale, sampling sites were partitioned according to habitat type or geographic locality.

Although lithium salts are the most successful materials for electrochemical devices so far, there is growing interest in electrolytes containing divalent and trivalent salts, which are characterized by a much higher energy density than lithium systems. For this purpose, the physical and chemical properties of solutions of aluminum nitrate in ethylammonium nitrate (EAN) were studied in a number of works. However, it was demonstrated by the H NMR method that solutions contain water (from aluminum crystallohydrates) in the first solvated shell of the Al cation even after usual drying procedures, and this solvated water cannot be directly detected by the standard Karl Fischer analysis.
