At least 50% of factors predisposing to alcohol dependence (AD) are genetic and women affected with this disorder present with more psychiatric comorbidities, probably indicating different genetic factors involved. We aimed to run a genome-wide association study (GWAS) followed by a bioinformatic functional annotation of associated genomic regions in patients with AD and eight related clinical measures. A genome-wide significant association of rs220677 with AD (-value = 1.

Animal shelters have been found to represent stressful environments for pet dogs, both affecting behavior and influencing welfare. The current COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light new uncertainties in animal sheltering practices which may affect shelter dog behavior in unexpected ways. To evaluate this, we analyzed changes in dog activity levels before COVID-19 and during COVID-19 using an automated video analysis within a large, open-admission animal shelter in New York City, USA.

Department of Descriptive Geometry and Graphics, Faculty of Basic and Human Sciences, Saint-Petersburg Mining University, 2, 21st Line, 199106 Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

The organization of microporous space in zeolites is discussed. A new step-by-step model is proposed that explains the principles of organizing the hierarchy of microporous space at the stage of assembling zeolites from elements of minimal size: a primary building unit, secondary building units, tertiary building units or building polyhedra, a sodalite cage, and a supercage. To illustrate the stepwise hierarchical porous structure of nanomaterials, the following zeolites with small and large micropores have been selected as the model objects: sodalite (SOD, the maximum diameter of a sphere that can enter the pores is 0.

Cqd/pedot: PSS composites were prepared via the hydrothermal method from glucose carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and an aqueous solution of PEDOT:PSS conducting polymer and their electrical and optical properties were investigated. The morphology and structure of these samples were investigated by AFM, SEM, EDX, and EBSD. It was found that the CQDs and CQD/PEDOT:PSS composites had a globular structure with globule sizes of ~50-300 nm depending on the concentration of PEDOT:PSS in these composites.

The overuse of antibiotics has led to the emergence of resistant bacteria. A good alternative is silver nanoparticles, which have antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including multidrug-resistant strains. Their combination with already known antibiotics has a synergistic effect.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between changes in circadian patterns of melatonin and clinical manifestations of polymorbid cardiovascular pathology (PCVP) in young men and to analyze the effectiveness of their complex treatment.

Materials And Methods: We made the immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis of epiphysis tissues from autopsies of 25 men aged 32-44 with PCVP and metabolic syndrome (MS) who had died as a result of ischemic cardiomyopathy (IC) and 25 persons after the car accident as a control group. Then, 93 young men aged 35-44 with PCVP, metabolic syndrome, and depressive spectrum disorders (DSD) were divided into three groups: (1) standard therapy; (2) standard therapy and psychotherapy sessions; (3) standard therapy in combination with psychotherapeutic and psychophysiological visual and auditory correction sessions.

A series of multiblock polyurethane-ureas (PUU) based on polycaprolactone diol (PCL) with a molecular mass of 530 or 2000 g/mol, as well as hard segments of different lengths and structures, were synthesized by the step-growth polymerization method. The chemical structure of the synthesized multiblock copolymers was confirmed by IR- and NMR-spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) were used to determine the relaxation and phase transition temperatures for the entire series of the obtained PUU.

Representative Ring Signature Algorithm Based on Smart Contract.

Sensors (Basel)

September 2022

Faculty of Computer Science and Technology, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI", 197022 Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Traditional ring signature algorithms suffer from large signature data capacity and low speed of signature and verification during collective signing. In this work, we propose a representative ring signature algorithm based on smart contracts. By collecting the opinions of the signatory based on multiparty secure computation, the proposed technique protects the privacy of the signatory during the data interaction process in the consortium chain.

A dual autoencoder employing separable convolutional layers for image denoising and deblurring is represented. Combining two autoencoders is presented to gain higher accuracy and simultaneously reduce the complexity of neural network parameters by using separable convolutional layers. In the proposed structure of the dual autoencoder, the first autoencoder aims to denoise the image, while the second one aims to enhance the quality of the denoised image.

Thermodynamic Analysis and Experimental Study on the Oxidation of PbX (X = S, Se) Nanostructured Layers.

Micromachines (Basel)

July 2022

Department of Micro-and Nanoelectronics, Faculty of Electronics, Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University «LETI», 5, pr. Popova, 197022 Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Heat treatment in an oxygen-containing medium is a necessary procedure in the technology of forming photodetectors and emitters based on lead chalcogenides. Lead chalcogenide layers (PbS, PbSe) were prepared via a chemical bath deposition method. Surface oxidation of lead chalcogenide layers was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy methods, and thermodynamic analysis of the oxidation of PbSe and PbS layers was also performed.

The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between a decrease in the left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) and traditional ECG signs associated with structural changes of the myocardium (pathological Q wave, ventricular arrhythmias) and relatively new and poorly understood (fragmented QRS complex (fQRS), early repolarization pattern (ERP)) and evaluate their significance for identifying patients with mildly reduced EF (mrEF). The study included 148 patients who were treated and examined at the Almazov Medical Research Center. FQRS, ERP, pathological Q wave, and premature ventricular contractions (PVC) were described in the analysis of the ECG, and the results of echocardiography and statistical data were analyzed: Fisher's test and chi-square, correlation analysis, and ROC analysis.

A series of polyimide/metal oxide (either ZrO or TiO) nanocomposite films were fabricated based on two polymer matrices. The prepared films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and their thermal and mechanical properties were investigated with the use of thermogravimetric (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and thermomechanical analysis (TMA). We have found out that functional properties of the obtained materials are determined by a number of factors, not only the type, size, surface functionality, and concentration of the nanofiller, but also the chemical structure of the matrix polyimide.

Modeling of the electron beam induced current signal in nanowires with an axial p-n junction.

Nanotechnology

July 2022

Centre de Nanosciences et de Nanotechnologies (C2N), CNRS UMR 9001, University Paris-Saclay, F-91120 Palaiseau, France.

A tridimensional mathematical model to calculate the electron beam induced current (EBIC) of an axial p-n nanowire junction is proposed. The effect of the electron beam and junction parameters on the distribution of charge carriers and on the collected EBIC current is reported. We demonstrate that the diffusion of charge carriers within the wire is strongly influenced by the electrical state of its lateral surface which is characterized by a parameter called surface recombination velocity ().

The optimization of normalized radar cross-section (NRCS) sampling by a scatterometer allows an increase in the accuracy of the wind retrieval over the water surface and a decrease in the time of the measurement. Here, we investigate the possibility of improving wind vector measurement with an airborne rotating-beam scatterometer mounted under the fuselage. For this purpose, we investigated NRCS sampling at various incidence angles, and the possibility of using NRCS samples obtained during simultaneous measurement at different incidence angles to perform wind retrieval.
