Choice of calcineurin inhibitor may impact the outcome of patients undergoing T-cell replete hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PT-Cy) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) for prophylaxis of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). We retrospectively analyzed 2427 patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first remission transplanted from a haploidentical (n = 1844) or unrelated donor (UD, n = 583) using cyclosporine A (CSA, 63%) or tacrolimus (TAC, 37%) and PT-Cy/MMF. In univariate analysis, CSA and TAC groups did not differ in 2-year leukemia-free or overall survival, cumulative incidence (CI) of relapse or non-relapse mortality.

Background: Bladder drainage is systematically used in rectal cancer surgery; however, the optimal type of drainage, transurethral catheterization (TUC) or suprapubic catheterization (SPC), is still controversial. The aim was to compare the rates of urinary tract infection on the fourth postoperative day (POD4) between TUC and SPC, after rectal cancer surgery regardless of the day of removal of the urinary drain.

Methods: This randomized clinical trial in 19 expert colorectal surgery centers in France and Belgium was performed between October 2016 and October 2019 and included 240 men (with normal or subnormal voiding function) undergoing mesorectal excision with low anastomosis for rectal cancer.

Unraveling the Mechanisms of Hypertrophy-Induced Matrix Mineralization and Modifications in Articular Chondrocytes.

Calcif Tissue Int

September 2024

INSERM, Centre de Recherche Saint-Antoine, CRSA, Sorbonne Université, 34 Rue Crozatier, 75012, Paris, France.

Chondrocyte hypertrophic differentiation is a main event leading to articular cartilage degradation in osteoarthritis. It is associated with matrix remodeling and mineralization, the dynamics of which is not well characterized during chondrocyte hypertrophic differentiation in articular cartilage. Based on an in vitro model of progressive differentiation of immature murine articular chondrocytes (iMACs) into prehypertrophic (Prehyp) and hypertrophic (Hyp) chondrocytes, we performed kinetics of chondrocyte differentiation from Prehyp to Hyp to follow matrix mineralization and remodeling by immunofluorescence, biochemical, molecular, and physicochemical approaches, including atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy associated with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), attenuated total reflection infrared analyses, and X-ray diffraction.

HIV and adipose tissue: A long history linked to therapeutic classes of antiretrovirals.

Ann Endocrinol (Paris)

June 2024

Centre de recherche Saint-Antoine, institut hospitalo-universitaire de cardio-métabolisme et nutrition (ICAN), Inserm UMR_S938, Sorbonne université, 75012 Paris, France.

HIV infection has been controlled only since the introduction of triple therapy in 1996, combining, as antiretroviral agents, two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) and one protease inhibitor (PI). However, among the NRTIs, the thymidine analogues stavudine and zidovudine led to lipoatrophy, either generalized or associated with visceral fat hypertrophy and buffalo hump. These molecules also increased insulin resistance and the prevalence of diabetes.
