Infection in humans occurs in different forms, from asymptomatic infection to fatal encephalitis, and death occurred in 40-70% of those infected in outbreaks that occurred between 1998 and 2018. Modern diagnostics is carried out by real-time PCR to identify pathogens or by ELISA to detect antibodies.

This study is a successor of our previous work concerning changes in the chemokine profile in infection that are associated with different SARS-CoV-2 genetic variants. The goal of our study was to take into account both the virus and the host immune system by assessing concentrations of cytokines in patients infected with different SARS-CoV-2 variants (ancestral Wuhan strain, Alpha, Delta and Omicron). Our study was performed on 340 biological samples taken from COVID-19 patients and healthy donors in the timespan between May 2020 and April 2022.

A series of novel 4-substituted sulfonamidobenzoic acid derivatives was synthesized as the structural evolution of 4-(4-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)phenylsulfonamido)benzoic acid, which is the known inhibitor of the enterovirus life cycle. Antiviral properties of prepared compounds were evaluated using phenotypic screening and viral yield reduction assay. Their capsid binding properties were verified in thermostability assay.

Background: The adaptive antiviral immune response requires interaction between CD8+ T cells, dendritic cells, and Th1 cells for controlling SARS-CoV-2 infection, but the data regarding the role of CD8+ T cells in the acute phase of COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 syndrome are still limited.
Methods: . Peripheral blood samples collected from patients with acute COVID-19 ( 71), convalescent subjects bearing serum SARS-CoV-2 N-protein-specific IgG antibodies ( 51), and healthy volunteers with no detectable antibodies to any SARS-CoV-2 proteins (HC, 46) were analyzed using 10-color flow cytometry.
A method has been developed for HBV DNA finding in biological material at low viral load based on nested PCR with real-time detection of three viral targets. When developing the method, blood plasma samples were used from 128 CHB patients living in the regions of the Russian Federation and countries of Central Asia and 173 hemodialysis center patients living in the North-West Federal District. Analytical sensitivity was tested using the stepwise dilution method.

The work is devoted to the study of the structural characteristics of the myeloperoxidase-ceruloplasmin-thrombin complex using small-angle neutron scattering methods in combination with computer modeling, as well as surface plasmon resonance and solid-phase enzyme assay. We have previously shown that the functioning of active myeloperoxidase during inflammation, despite the presence in the blood of an excess of ceruloplasmin which inhibits its activity, is possible due to the partial proteolysis of ceruloplasmin by thrombin. In this study, the myeloperoxidase-ceruloplasmin-thrombin heterohexamer was obtained in vitro.

Background: Humoral immunity requires interaction between B cell and T follicular helper cells (Tfh) to produce effective immune response, but the data regarding a role of B cells and Tfh in SARS-CoV-2 defense are still sparse.
Methods: Blood samples from patients with acute COVID-19 ( = 64), convalescents patients who had specific IgG to SARS-CoV-2 N-protein ( = 55), and healthy donors with no detectable antibodies to any SARS-CoV-2 proteins (HC, = 44) were analyses by multicolor flow cytometry.
Results: Patients with acute COVID-19 showed decreased levels of memory B cells subsets and increased proportion plasma cell precursors compared to HC and COVID-19 convalescent patients, whereas for the latter the elevated numbers of virgin naïve, Bm2' and "Bm3+Bm4" was found if compared with HC.

A new route to 5-amino-1,2,4-thiadiazole derivatives via reaction of N-chloroamidines with isothiocyanates has been proposed. The advantages of this method are high product yields (up to 93%), the column chromatography-free workup procedure, scalability and the absence of additive oxidizing agents or transition metal catalysts. The 28 examples of 5-amino-1,2,4-thiadiazole derivatives obtaining via the proposing protocol were evaluated in vitro against ESKAPE pathogens strains (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae).

In this report, we present new data on the diversity and geographical distribution of genetic variants in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) in Russia. Partial S, M, and L segment sequences of the CCHFV genome were obtained from 500 serum samples from CCHF patients and 103 pools of ticks collected in the south of the European region of Russia in 2007-2017. The investigated viral strains belonged to the lineages Europe 1 (596 samples), Africa 3 (1 sample) and a new genetic lineage, Europe 3 (6 samples).
