This article reviews the contemporary understanding of the functional role of connexins in intercellular communications, their involvement in maintaining cellular and tissue homeostasis, and in aging-associated respiratory disease pathogenesis. Connexins are discussed as potential therapeutic targets. The review particularly focuses on the involvement of gap junction connexins and hemichannels in the transfer of calcium ions, metabolite molecules, ATP, and mitochondria through the cell membrane.

At the population level, accelerated aging can manifest itself as an early manifestation of age-associated pathology. Earlier, as an indicator of the order of manifestation of various diseases, we substantiated the age-specific incidence index (ASII), which is the ratio of the primary incidence rate among people over working age to the same indicator for the entire adult population. At the same time, it seems necessary to explain the mathematical relationship between median age and ASII.

Inflamaging is a chronic, low-grade inflammation that occurs due to a disruption in the regulation of the immune system during the aging process. This condition is associated with an increased risk of age-related illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative conditions, and metabolic disorders. Transcription factor NF-κB is one of the primary regulators of innate and adaptive immune responses, and its activation leads to the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines that contribute to inflamaging.

To evaluate the effect of early measurement of serum digoxin concentration (SDC) on therapeutical safety and efficacy in patients with recent-onset atrial fibrillation and heart failure. De novo ventricular arrhythmias, high-grade AV node or sinus node blocks were noted in 22%, this risk was positively associated with endpoint SDC (mean SDC 0,88±0,78 ng/mL vs 0,45±0,71 ng/mL, p=0,039) irrespective of baseline characteristics. Empiric calculators for long-term digoxin monitoring correlated with both SDC (r=0,54.

The article presents a comparative analysis of the process of population aging in the context of demographic and professional risks of depopulation among working population in Russia. The values of the main medical and demographic indicators of population aging for Russia and developed countries were given. The results of UN forecasts, probabilistic forecasts of the total number and some characteristics of the age-sex structure for the population of the Russian Federation were analyzed.

In the treatment of coronavirus infections, it is important not only to understand the course of the disease, but also to understand what is happening in the human body, especially in the circulatory system, that is, which disorders lead to deterioration and further complications. Hemostasis disorder in COVID-19 plays an important role in the etiology and clinical manifestations of the disease. The ability to identify factors and risk groups for the development of thrombotic complications, the ability to dynamically interpret peripheral blood parameters and coagulograms, knowledge of diagnostic criteria for possible hemostasis disorders (for example, DIC syndrome, sepsis-associated coagulopathy, antiphospholipids, hemophagocytosis and hypercoagulation syndrome) are necessary to determine the indications for the test.

Research on the condition of the lungs in senile people is an urgent task. This is due to the fact that degenerative or age-associated changes in the respiratory system play an important role in the formation of senile asthenia syndrome and a decrease in the age-related viability of the body as a whole. CT-scans of patients aged 80-90 years were analyzed (n=31).

From the age of 25-30, the likelihood of developing pathological processes associated with aging begins to increase. Age-associated diseases (AAD) are a heterogeneous group of pathologies that are more likely to develop as they age. Clinically, the early development of AAD is identical to premature aging with all the ensuing consequences.

However, the problem of the influence of territorial features of economic development on the rate of population aging is not sufficiently covered. The goal was to study the impact of economic development indicators (EDI) on the processes of premature aging of the population.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by progressive cognitive decline. This review discusses current therapeutic strategies for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, their limitations, and potential prospects. The feasibility of comprehensive approach for AD therapy is considered in contrast to the classical method in the development of therapeutic strategy.

Knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of the development of the pathological process will allow on time identification of the disease or the development of targeted therapy. The article provides an overview of modern methods that make it possible to most accurately reproduce the structural, functional and mechanical properties of the lung (organ-on-a-chip), to perform non-invasive molecular studies of biomarkers of bronchopulmonary pathology using saliva diagnostics, as well as using DNA and RNA aptamers, verify tumor markers in biological samples of human tissue.

Introduction: Factors such as coronavirus neurotropism, which is associated with a massive increase in pro-inflammatory molecules and neuroglial reactivity, along with experiences of intensive therapy wards, fears of pandemic, and social restrictions, are pointed out to contribute to the occurrence of neuropsychiatric conditions.
Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of COVID-19 inflammation-related indices as potential markers predicting psychiatric complications in COVID-19.
Methods: A total of 177 individuals were examined, with 117 patients from a temporary infectious disease ward hospitalized due to COVID-19 forming the experimental group and 60 patients from the outpatient department showing signs of acute respiratory viral infection comprising the validation group.

Falls refers to geriatric syndromes, which is accompanied by a significant number of adverse clinically and socially consequences. For the rational organization of medical, social, psychological and other types of assistance and rehabilitation measures, separate groups of consequences developing as a result of a fall are distinguished: physical, functional, psychological, social. Every year, every fourth elderly and older person faces a fall, while about half of the victims seek medical help.

The concepts of fragility and resilience are often used together to describe elderly people with reduced physical activity. While fragility, which develops with the aging of the body, is a biological syndrome of a decrease in the stressors response resulting from cumulative regression in many physiological systems, and age related a comprehensive assessment of the ability resistance to stress. In this regard, it is important to develop systems and scales for the identification groups of risk among the elderly.

In recent years, more and more attention of researchers has been paid to the study of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP). The prevalence of this disease in older age groups is higher than previously thought, and the course of the disease is associated with a worse prognosis and treatment difficulties. Researchers are considering various signaling molecules whose expression changes are associated with myocardial damage and the development of DCMP; evaluation of changes in the expression of melatonin and its receptors in DCMP requires further study.

The article is devoted to the results of the third stage of the scientific and practical project on the introduction of advanced social practices based on innovative gerontotechnologies into the system of long-term care for geriatric patients. It has been established that senile xerosis or skin «frailty» occurs in 75% of the population over 65 years old, when increased dryness of the skin leads to peeling, the formation of microcracks, the appearance of senile itching, sleep disturbances, the development of pressure ulcers and, as a result, a decrease in motor activity. During the project, a tactic was developed for the care of «frail» skin in patients with senile xerosis and the risk of pressure ulcers.
