: Secretory carcinoma of the breast is an uncommon histological subtype of breast cancer. There is little research on this entity and only a few larger studies, which lack consensus. We aim to report a particular apocrine differentiation in this subtype and ponder upon the clinical outcome of this case.

Evisceration is an exceptional complication of diverting a stoma (a common procedure, often considered a minor surgery) with peculiar, specific, features (distinct-to-usual incisional evisceration), due to the presence of a stoma. Available data are limited to a few case reports; some aspects are not fully documented. The results of 28 case reports (full-text articles published in the English literature) were analyzed using 14 variables: age and gender; pathology; surgical setting; index surgery and type of stoma; intended stoma creation; time from surgery to evisceration; type of evisceration; visceral content; cause of evisceration; specific predisposing/risk factors; surgical approach; resection of nonviable content; surgical stoma treatment; and short-term outcome.

After a total laryngectomy, voice rehabilitation is essential for a patient to successfully reintegrate into society. The implantation of a voice prosthesis (VP) is the gold standard to achieve this goal. Thus, the primary disadvantage of using VP is the fluid blockage and degradation caused by biofilm colonization, which requires frequent replacements, associated with a poor quality of life for the patient.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of FOLFIRINOX(FFX), gemcitabine-based regimens (GB), and gemcitabine monotherapy (Gem) in patients with metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (mPDAC).
Methods: This is a retrospective study that included 83 patients with mPDAC treated with first-line chemotherapy (L1) with either FFX, GB or Gem between 2015 and 2017. Progression-free survival (PFS) for L1 and second-line chemotherapy (L2) (PFS-L1 and PFS-L2) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method.

: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) represents a decreased cognitive performance in patients undergoing general anesthesia for major surgery. Since liver cirrhosis is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates, cirrhotic patients also assemble many risk factors for POCD. Therefore, preserving cognition after major surgery is a priority, especially in this group of patients.

Background: Giant gallbladder is an uncommon condition that can result from a benign pathology and rarely presents with malignancy. Intracholecystic papillary-tubular neoplasm (ICPN) is a relatively new entity first described by V. Adsay in 2012 and included in the World Health Classification of Digestive System Tumours in 2019.

In the context of inefficient antibiotics, antibacterial alternatives are urgently needed to stop the increasing resistance rates in pathogens. This study reports the fabrication and characterization of four promising magnetite-based antibiotic delivery systems for ENT (ear, nose and throat) applications. Magnetite nanoparticles were functionalized with streptomycin and neomycin and some were entrapped in polymeric spheres.

This study reports the fabrication of nanostructured coatings based on magnetite, polyethyleneglycol, and biologically active molecule (polymyxin B-PM) for producing biofilm-resistant surfaces (voice prosthesis). Magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) have been synthesized and functionalized using a co-precipitation method and were further deposited into thin coatings using the matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) technique. The obtained nanoparticles and coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis with differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy with selected area electron diffraction (TEM-SAED), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and infrared microscopy (IRM).

Lymphangioma is a rare pathology in children and even more exotic when encountered in adults. We review the current data on this subject underlining possible controversies and limitations. This is the case of an adult male who underwent a complete clinical examination and ENT performed ultrasound exam, along with contrast CT prior to complete surgical removal of the mass.

Unlabelled: Regarding the mortality causes, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is on the 7th place in the US and the 6th place in the world, with 5 year overall survival rate of 14%, which is still modest in comparison to other digestive neoplasia. Multiples strategies were involved to improve this percentage, associating surgical procedures and chemo- and radio- oncologic therapies. The distant results showed sensitive improvement, after introduction of multimodality neoadjuvant therapies.
