For example, determining the optimal configuration of panels (generally called panelization) that form the structure of a building is one aspect of cost estimation. However, existing methods typically rely on rule-based approaches that may lead to suboptimal material usage, particularly in complex designs featuring angled walls and openings.

Understanding the factors that drive spatial synchrony among populations or species is important for management and recovery of populations. The range-wide declines in Atlantic salmon () populations may be the result of broad-scale changes in the marine environment. Salmon undergo rapid growth in the ocean; therefore changing marine conditions may affect body size and fecundity estimates used to evaluate whether stock reference points are met.

Does the Paraphilia Scale Work for Everyone? Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Measurement Invariance Across Gender and Sexual Orientation Groups.

We conducted three studies to examine the factor structure and measurement invariance of the Paraphilia Scale, a measure of paraphilic interests used in multiple studies. In the first study, we conducted a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) testing different a priori models with a community sample of 1,040 adults previously reported by Seto et al. (2021), and found support for a hierarchical four-factor model: An involving coercion or physical pain (biastophilia, sexual sadism, masochism), (pedophilia, hebephilia), (voyeurism, exhibitionism, and frotteurism), and (object fetishism, transvestic fetishism, urophilia-coprophilia).

A Rule-Based Solution to Opaque Medical Billing in the U.S.

Patients and physicians do not know the cost of medical procedures. Opaque medical billing thus contributes to exorbitant, rising medical costs, burdening the healthcare system and individuals. After criticizing two proposed solutions to the problem of opaque medical billing, I argue that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services should pursue a rule requiring that patients be informed by the physician of a reasonable out-of-pocket expense estimate for non-urgent procedures prior to services rendered.

Global Spore Sampling Project: A global, standardized dataset of airborne fungal DNA.

Novel methods for sampling and characterizing biodiversity hold great promise for re-evaluating patterns of life across the planet. The sampling of airborne spores with a cyclone sampler, and the sequencing of their DNA, have been suggested as an efficient and well-calibrated tool for surveying fungal diversity across various environments. Here we present data originating from the Global Spore Sampling Project, comprising 2,768 samples collected during two years at 47 outdoor locations across the world.

Identification and Analysis of lncRNA and circRNA Related to Wheat Grain Development.

The role of lncRNA and circRNA in wheat grain development is still unclear. The objectives of this study were to characterize the lncRNA and circRNA in the wheat grain development and to construct the interaction network among lncRNA, circRNA, and their target miRNA to propose a lncRNA-circRNA-miRNA module related to wheat grain development. Full transcriptome sequencing on two wheat varieties (Annong 0942 and Anke 2005) with significant differences in 1000-grain weight at 10 d (days after pollination), 20 d, and 30 d of grain development were conducted.

Genome-wide screening of meta-QTL and candidate genes controlling yield and yield-related traits in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.).

Increasing yield is an important goal of barley breeding. In this study, 54 papers published from 2001-2022 on QTL mapping for yield and yield-related traits in barley were collected, which contained 1080 QTLs mapped to the barley high-density consensus map for QTL meta-analysis. These initial QTLs were integrated into 85 meta-QTLs (MQTL) with a mean confidence interval (CI) of 2.

Identification and expression analysis of XIP gene family members in rice.

Xylanase inhibitor proteins (XIP) are widely distributed in the plant kingdom, and also exist in rice. However, a systematic bioinformatics analysis of this gene family in rice (OsXIP) has not been conducted to date. In this study, we identified 32 members of the OsXIP gene family and analyzed their physicochemical properties, chromosomal localization, gene structure, protein structure, expression profiles, and interaction networks.

A series of EP(V)-imine phosphine-imine ligands (Dipp-NC(CH)-(CH)-PE(Ph)) (Dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl, E = O, S, Se) and corresponding dimethyl aluminum and indium complexes were prepared and characterized using multi-nuclear NMR spectroscopy and SC-XRD. Solution-state H and P NMR spectroscopy indicate a mixture of isomers in solution (CD, CDCl, and CDCN). Gold nanorods (AuNRs) have attracted significant attention over the past several decades for a variety of applications and there has been steady progress with regards to their synthesis and modification. Despite these advances, the assembly of AuNRs into well-organized hierarchical assemblies remains a formidable challenge. Specifically, there is a need for tools that can fabricate assemblies of nanorods over large length scales at low cost with the potential for high-throughput manufacturing.

Reduced ossification caused by 3D simulated microgravity exposure is short-term in larval zebrafish.

Understanding how skeletal tissues respond to microgravity is ever more important with the increased interest in human space travel. Here, we exposed larval Danio rerio at 3.5 dpf to simulated microgravity (SMG) using a 3D mode of rotation in a ground-based experiment and then studied different cellular, molecular, and morphological bone responses both immediately after exposure and one week later.

A new approach for deducing rms proton radii from charge-changing reactions of neutron-rich nuclei and the reaction-target dependence.

We report the charge-changing cross sections (σ) of 24 p-shell nuclides on both hydrogen and carbon at about 900A MeV, of which Li, Be, B, N and O on hydrogen and Li on carbon are for the first time. Benefiting from the data set, we found a new and robust relationship between the scaling factor of the Glauber model calculations and the separation energies of the nuclei of interest on both targets. This allows us to deduce proton radii (R) for the first time from the cross sections on hydrogen.

Yeast communities of a North American hybrid wine grape differ between organic and conventional vineyards.

Aims: To compare the species diversity and composition of indigenous yeast communities of hybrid grapes from conventionally and organically cultivated vineyards of an emerging cool-climate wine producing region.

Methods And Results: Illumina MiSeq sequences from L'Acadie blanc grape musts were processed and filtered to characterize indigenous yeast communities in organic and conventional vineyards of the Annapolis Valley wine region in Nova Scotia, Canada. While cultivation practice was not associated with yeast diversity or species richness, there was a strong effect on yeast community composition, with conventional vineyards characterized by higher proportions of Sporidiobolales and Filobasidium magnum, and organic vineyards supporting Filobasidium species other than F.

We report the measurement of the helicity asymmetry E for the pπ^{0} and nπ^{+} final states using, for the first time, an elliptically polarized photon beam in combination with a longitudinally polarized target at the Crystal Ball experiment at MAMI. A New Distal Pharyngeal Airway Device Associated with a Reduced Need for Chin-Lift and Jaw-Thrust Maneuvers in Sedated Patients.

Oropharyngeal airways (OPA) or nasopharyngeal airways (NPA) sometimes require chin-lift or jaw-thrust (CLJT) maneuvers to relieve airway obstruction which creates the burden of continuous hands-on care by the anesthesia provider. A new distal pharyngeal airway device (DPA) was used on 63 successive ambulatory surgery patients to assess the frequency of patients requiring manual CLJT maneuvers to prevent airway obstruction. Results were then compared with a contemporaneous group of patients who had used OPA or NPA devices for similar procedures.

Telerehabilitation in Physical Therapist Practice: A Clinical Practice Guideline From the American Physical Therapy Association.

A clinical practice guideline on telerehabilitation was developed by an American Physical Therapy Association volunteer guideline development group consisting of international physical therapists and physiotherapists, a physician, and a consumer. The guideline was based on systematic reviews of current scientific literature, clinical information, and accepted approaches to telerehabilitation in physical therapist practice. Seven recommendations address the impact of, preparation for, and implementation of telerehabilitation in physical therapist practice.

Potential Response Patterns of Endogenous Hormones in Cliff Species and under Salt Stress.
