This commentary delves into Obenauer and Kalsher's focal article (2023) to explore possible links between the observed effects and the notion of language-related misunderstanding. Language-related misunderstanding is defined as unintentional error in comprehension by receivers due to the form of language employed by senders in communicating a message (Fiset et al., in press).

Raman spectra of aqueous sodium borate solutions, with and without excess NaOH, NaCl, and LiCl, have been obtained from perpendicular and parallel polarization measurements acquired using a custom-built sapphire flow cell over the temperature range 25 to 300 °C at 20 MPa. The solvent-corrected reduced isotropic spectra include a large well-defined band at 865 cm which overlaps with the boric acid B(OH) band at 879 cm, and becomes increasingly intense at elevated temperatures. This band does not correspond to the spectrum of any other previously reported aqueous polyborate ions, all of which have symmetric stretching bands at frequencies below that of borate, [B(OH)], at 745 cm.

Today, the limited sources of freshwater supply are a significant concern. Exploiting alternative sources, especially seawater, has been the focus, but purifying it is energy-intensive. Integrating desalination with renewable energy is a proposed solution, but it comes with high costs and environmental risks during construction.

Background: Latinxs are vastly underrepresented in mental health research; one of many contributing factors may be complexities in the research consent process, including language preferences. We examined determinants of comprehension of research consent procedures and tested the effects of a preconsent research schema condition among 180 adults with schizophrenia (60 Latinx-English and 60 Latinx-Spanish preference, and 60 non-Latinx White).
Study Design: Participants were randomly assigned (equal allocation) to an educational session regarding clinical research concepts and processes (schema condition) or to an attention control.

Supervised consumption services have been scaled up within Canada and internationally as an ethical imperative in the context of a public health emergency. A large body of peer-reviewed evidence demonstrates that these services prevent poisoning deaths, reduce infectious disease transmission risk behaviour, and facilitate clients' connections to other health and social services. In 2019, the Alberta government commissioned a review of the socioeconomic impacts of seven supervised consumption services in the province.

Further attempts to use the same two of these filtrates to electrodeposit molybdenum(iv) disulfide from 0.1 M PP13-TFSI in tetrahydrofuran with 1,4-butanedithiol at room temperature were unsuccessful.

We analyzed over 22,000 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) genomes of patient samples tested at Mayo Clinic Laboratories during a 2-year period in the COVID-19 pandemic, which included Alpha, Delta, and Omicron variants of concern to examine the roles and relationships of Minnesota virus transmission. We found that Hennepin County, the most populous county, drove the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 viruses in the state after including the formation of earlier clades including 20A, 20C, and 20G, as well as variants of concern Alpha and Delta. We also found that Hennepin County was the source for most of the county-to-county introductions after an initial predicted introduction with the virus in early 2020 from an international source, while other counties acted as transmission "sinks.

Romantic relationships are a fundamental part of the human experience and contribute to quality of life and recovery of people with serious mental illness (SMI). However, few psychosocial interventions exist to address this issue among people with schizophrenia, and no existing intervention focuses on Latinxs. The intersectionality of being Latinx and having schizophrenia can create a unique experience regarding stigma, romantic relationships, and gender.

Social media and other technologies are being increasingly adopted as mechanisms to perpetrate abuse against dating partners. Using Ajzen's theory of planned behavior as a framework, a sample of 352 emerging adults completed a questionnaire that assessed the core constructs of the theory of planned behavior (i.e.

Alterations in collagen ultrastructure between human gastric adenocarcinoma and normal gastric tissue were investigated using polarization-resolved second harmonic generation (PSHG) microscopy. Cylindrical and trigonal symmetries were assumed to extract quantitative PSHG parameters, , and , from each image pixel. Statistically significant variations in these values were observed for gastric adenocarcinoma, indicating a higher disorder of collagen.

In an item-method directed forgetting task, memory instructions presumably operate by promoting further rehearsal of to-be-remembered (TBR) items and limiting encoding of to-be-forgotten (TBF) items. We asked whether diverting attentional resources away from TBF items and towards a new item that needed to be committed to memory would improve forgetting. To this end, study words in our experiments were presented singly followed by a remember instruction (single-TBR), by a forget instruction (single-TBF), or else were replaced by a new word to be remembered (replace-TBR) in place of the original study word which could be forgotten (replace-TBF).

In this study, we sought to analyse experiences in weight management among physicians working in the area of obesity and contrast these experiences with best practices. By understanding experiences of physicians working in obesity management, we can better support implementation of best practices in their day-to-day practice. An online survey of Canadian primary care physicians, internists and endocrinologists recruited from a nationwide market research database was conducted.

Parental experiences can lead to changes in offspring phenotypes through transgenerational plasticity (TGP). TGP is expected to play a role in improving the responses of offspring to changes in climate, but little is known about how the early lives of parents influence offspring TGP. Here, we use a model organism, zebrafish (), to contrast the effects of early and later life parental thermal environments on offspring routine metabolism.

Root systems of most land plants are colonised by arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi. The symbiosis supports nutrient acquisition strategies predominantly associated with plant access to inorganic phosphate. The nutrient acquisition is enhanced through an extensive network of external fungal hyphae that extends out into the soil, together with the development of fungal structures forming specialised interfaces with root cortical cells.

Background: A hallmark of unregulated drug markets is their unpredictability and constant evolution with newly introduced substances. People who use drugs and the public health workforce are often unaware of the appearance of new drugs on the unregulated market and their type, safe dosage, and potential adverse effects. This increases risks to people who use drugs, including the risk of unknown consumption and unintentional drug poisoning.

Nitroaromatic compounds represent one of the essential classes of molecules that are widely used as feedstock for the synthesis of intermediates, the preparation of nitro-derived pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials on both laboratory and industrial scales. We herein disclose the efficient, mild, and catalytic ipso-nitration of organotrimethylsilanes, enabled by an electrophilic N-nitrosaccharin reagent and allows chemoselective nitration under mild reaction conditions, while exhibiting remarkable substrate generality and functional group compatibility. Additionally, the reaction conditions proved to be orthogonal to other common functionalities, allowing programming of molecular complexity via successive transformations or late-stage nitration.

The impacts of animals on the biogeochemical cycles of major bioelements like C, N, and P are well-studied across ecosystem types. However, more than 20 elements are necessary for life. The feedbacks between animals and the biogeochemical cycles of the other bioelements are an emerging research priority.

The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2) is a widely used measure of a core facet of the positive body image construct. However, extant research concerning measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across a large number of nations remains limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset - with data collected between 2020 and 2022 - to assess measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups.
