Intentional forgetting of unwanted items is effortful, yet directed forgetting seems to improve when a secondary task is performed. According to the cognitive load hypothesis of directed forgetting, allocating attentional resources to another task improves forgetting by restricting unwanted encoding of to-be-forgotten (TBF) items. Alternatively, it might be that anything that makes studying more difficult will encourage greater effort to perform the task well and therefore lead to improved intentional forgetting.

A literature search was started with the objective of finding works pertaining to the use of operations research techniques in planning for human resources in palliative care. Since the search indicated that there is no such work, in this paper, we report on the literature on workforce planning and human resource planning for palliative care personnel. Using our findings, we discuss the factors that influence the supply and demand for the palliative care workforce.

The 1-substituted dibenzothiophene motif is an unusual substitution pattern that has previously been accessed via a multi-step synthesis. We demonstrate a simple one-pot preparation of 1-lithiodibenzothiophene from commercial materials via a cascade of two benzyne additions and conversion to several derivatives by addition of electrophiles. A chiral amine containing the 1-dibenzothiophene motif was also prepared.

Objective: To quantify the occurrence rate of abnormal electrocardiographic (ECG) findings and symptoms following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.
Patients And Methods: In this retrospective analysis, we studied adult patients (>18 years old) who were participating in collegiate athletics and previously tested positive for COVID-19 between August 1, 2020, and December 30, 2020. The athletes underwent general examinations and ECG screening prior to being medically cleared for a return to sports following their COVID-19 diagnosis.

Recent work underscores that ants are highly proficient and ubiquitous scavengers. These tendencies extend to numerically and behaviorally dominant introduced ants, which exhibit a suite of traits that allow them to exploit and monopolize carrion to a greater extent than is widely appreciated. We thus contend that an understanding of how introduced ants fit into food webs remains incomplete.

Background: This study examines whether alignment of actual and preferred employment policies, including compensation method, employment status, and work schedule, affect midwives' intention to stay in the profession. The study further investigates the moderating effect of financial-rewards satisfaction and compares midwives' policy preferences in urban/rural practices.
Methods: Cross-sectional survey data from 549 midwives across Canada were analysed through descriptive statistics, bivariate correlations, and hierarchical linear regressions.

Harbor porpoise in the North Pacific are found in coastal waters from southern California to Japan, but population structure is poorly known outside of a few local areas. We used multiplexed amplicon sequencing of 292 loci and genotyped clusters of single nucleotide polymoirphisms as microhaplotypes (N = 271 samples) in addition to mitochondrial (mtDNA) sequence data (N = 413 samples) to examine the genetic structure from samples collected along the Pacific coast and inland waterways from California to southern British Columbia. We confirmed an overall pattern of strong isolation-by-distance, suggesting that individual dispersal is restricted.

Recently, there has been increasing concern over the widespread use of the herbicide atrazine which has been reported to have problematic side effects on local ecosystems. This has highlighted the need for rapid and accurate point-of-need assessment tools for analytical determination of herbicides in ground and surface waters. Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a sensitive vibrational spectroscopy technique which has recently been employed for the analysis of a variety of analytes in water, ranging from pharmaceuticals to pesticides.

Objective: The aim of this study was to establish breed-standard mechanical tibial joint reference angles in the frontal plane in Dachshunds.
Study Design: Craniocaudal ( = 38) and mediolateral ( = 32) radiographs of normal tibiae from Dachshunds were retrospectively reviewed. The mechanical medial proximal, mechanical medial distal, mechanical caudal proximal and mechanical cranial distal tibial angles were measured on three occasions by two separate observers using previously established methodology.

Background: Complex syntax is affected by developmental language disorder (DLD) during the school years. Targeting areas of syntactic difficulty for children with DLD may yield useful assessment techniques.
Aims: To determine whether wh-movement can be measured in language samples from typically developing mono- and bilingual school-aged children, and, if so, to provide preliminary evidence of validity by comparison with traditional measures of syntax in a cross-sectional, known-groups design.

In common wheat, stem strength is one of the key factors for lodging resistance, which is influenced by lignin content. Cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) is a vital enzyme in the pathway of lignin biosynthesis. Cloning and marker development of the CAD gene could be helpful for lodging resistance breeding.

To date, peer-reviewed research has found no evidence linking supervised consumptions sites (SCSs) to increased crime. Yet, in March 2020, a government Report released in the province of Alberta, Canada, presented the results of a review that reached a different conclusion. This commentary highlights the Report's major methodological limitations with respect to its criminological components, including that crime was poorly operationalized and measured, change in crime was inadequately assessed, and the effect of SCSs on crime was not ascertained.

Background: When an Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) incident is reported to emergency services, the 911 agent dispatches Emergency Medical Services to the location and activates responder network system (RNS), if the option is available. The RNS notifies all the registered users in the vicinity of the cardiac arrest patient by sending alerts to their mobile devices, which contains the location of the emergency. The main objective of this research is to find the best match between the user who could support the OHCA patient.

Personal distress is a building block of empathy, yet has received scant attention in studies of individual differences in leadership. We investigate whether the effect of leader emergence on men's distress is influenced by their personalized power motive (p Power) and changes in their testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) levels. In an experiment involving 96 males, p Power modulated the direction and intensity of T change in emergent leaders, with high p-Power leaders showing a more positive T change compared to their low p-Power counterparts.

The COVID-19 pandemic is enacting a heavy mental health toll on people around the world. This article provides evidence-based information and techniques to promote and foster mental and physical health for our patients and health care providers. The article 1) reviews common emotional reactions faced by patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, 2) reviews how health care providers can help patients make sense of their experiences, and 3) teaches evidence-based skills that health care providers can use to support patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and care for themselves.

The disease, COVID-19, is caused by the severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) for which there is currently no treatment. The SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M) is an important enzyme for viral replication. Small molecules that inhibit this protease could lead to an effective COVID-19 treatment.

Introduction: Law enforcement involves exposure to threatening situations and traumatic events that place police officers at risk for negative physical and mental health outcomes. Resilience support, among other elements of training, may help mitigate these risks, yet little is known about which aspects of resilience support help officers achieve better health and quality of life outcomes.
Methods And Analysis: This review will consider all literature that examines the links between resilience support, physical/mental health and quality of life outcomes for police officers in five Anglosphere nations: Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
