: Renal lithiasis continues to represent a great challenge for modern urology in terms of minimally invasive management of lithotripsy procedures. The recent revolution of endoscopes with the miniaturization of instruments and the development of improved disposable ureteroscopes combined with recent suction methods such as suction access sheaths or direct in-scope suction (DISS) systems promise to further improve the outcome of renal stone treatment. : Considering this technological advance, this study aims to evaluate the results obtained by combining these methods in three groups: Group 1-Single-use 7.

Echinococcosis represents a major public health issue and continues to be endemic in various regions around the world. Hydatid cysts are commonly located in the liver (primary site), followed by the lungs (secondary site). However, they are also found in less typical organs such as the spleen, kidneys, peritoneum, retroperitoneum, pancreas, gallbladder, and various other organs, as well as in striate muscles.

Objective: Prostate tumors, if prostate cancer or adenoma, represent a major public health challenge. Progress in research on inflammation has revealed a connection between inflammation, immunity, and cancer. In this context, this study aimed to find IL-6 signaling systemic abnormalities in the inflammatory tumor microenvironment.

Background: In recent decades, machine-learning (ML) technologies have advanced the management of high-dimensional and complex cancer data by developing reliable and user-friendly automated diagnostic tools for clinical applications. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is an essential staining method that enables the identification of cellular origins by analyzing the expression of specific antigens within tissue samples. The aim of this study was to identify a model that could predict histopathological diagnoses based on specific immunohistochemical markers.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a reality of our times, and it has been successfully implemented in all fields, including medicine. As a relatively new domain, all efforts are directed towards creating algorithms applicable in most medical specialties. Pathology, as one of the most important areas of interest for precision medicine, has received significant attention in the development and implementation of AI algorithms.

The carcinomas originating from the renal cortex are the most aggressive renal malignancies, with a high tendency for metastasis. Understanding the incidence of cutaneous manifestations caused by renal carcinomas is a challenge. In the first part, this article summarizes a series of factors that promote oncogenesis, invasiveness, and the ability of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to develop secondary cutaneous manifestations.

Introduction: Research regarding the role of the IL-12 cytokine family in modulating immune and inflammatory responses is continuously evolving. In this study, the contribution of the p35 and p40 subunits as monomers (noted as IL-12p35 and IL-12p40) and heterodimers (noted as IL-12p70 or IL-12p35/p40) was analysed in the pathophysiology and progression of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU).

Materials And Methods: We conducted a longitudinal, case-control study involving 42 CSU cases and 40 control cases comprising adults without associated conditions.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) represent a frequent pathology among the female population that has become more and more difficult to treat in the past decade, considering the increase in antibiotic resistance-a serious global public health problem. A cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted for six months to report an update regarding the rates of resistance and susceptibility of uropathogens necessary for optimal treatment. A total of 5487 patients were screened, of which 524 (9.

Purpose: To provide an evidence-based review of the use of ureteral stents in managing reno-ureteral lithiasis during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Materials And Methods: A literature search was conducted between 2020 and 2023 using the PubMed and SCOPUS databases. As a part of the search query, we entered "ureteral stents" OR "double J stent" AND "renal colic" OR "ureteral obstruction" OR "reno-ureteral lithiasis" AND "COVID-19 Pandemic" OR "SARS-CoV-2 infection".

Renal stones are a common pathology in daily practice with a continuously increasing incidence. Using flexible ureteroscopy (fURS), urologists can treat difficult renal stones through the natural orifice and maintain a satisfactory stone-free rate. Even though advancing technologies offer the opportunity for minimally invasive surgery, the surgeon is still exposed to a considerable amount of ionizing radiation during several procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are common in females and increasingly require antibiotic treatment, but there's a significant rise in antibiotic resistance over the past few decades.
  • The study analyzed 1,124 positive urine cultures from a hospital over three periods (2018-2022) and found that the most common uropathogen was E. coli, with resistance rates to various antibiotics like levofloxacin and ceftazidime.
  • Results showed an increase in resistance rates, emphasizing the importance of ongoing surveillance of antimicrobial resistance to guide effective treatment options.

(1) Background: SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy could determine important maternal and fetal complications. We aimed to prospectively assess placental immunohistochemical changes, immunophenotyping alterations, and pregnancy outcomes in a cohort of patients with COVID-19; (2) Methods: 52 pregnant patients admitted to a tertiary maternity center between October 2020 and November 2021 were segregated into two equal groups, depending on the presence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Blood samples, fragments of umbilical cord, amniotic membranes, and placental along with clinical data were collected.

Thrombocytopenia is defined as a platelet count below 150,000/mm for adults. There is still controversy about whether individuals with platelet counts of 100,000/mm to 150,000/mm should be classified as having genuine thrombocytopenia or borderline thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is considered mild when the platelet count is between 70,000 and 150,000/mm and severe if the count is less than 20,000/mm.

Purpose: We investigated the potential value of maternal serum copeptin, midregional proatrial natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP) and Procalcitonin (PCT) levels at 11-13 weeks' gestation in the prediction of preeclampsia (PE) in a case-control study.

Materials And Methods: Maternal serum concentration of copeptin, MR-proANP and PCT were measured at 11-13 weeks' gestation in cases of PE (n = 35) and controls (n = 100). The PE group was divided into early-onset PE (EO-PE) and late-onset PE (LO-PE).

Objectives: To determine the relationship between idiopathic polyhydramnios and fetal gender in the absence of fetal or maternal abnormalities.

Methods: This was a retrospective population-based register study. 295 women with singleton pregnancies complicated by idiopathic polyhydramnios (amniotic fluid index (AFI) higher than 24 cm) who were delivered at our institution from January 2002 till December 2012 were included.

BPH remains one of the most common diseases that the urologist has to manage. The last decade brought numerous new techniques, aiming to improve the minimally invasive approach to BPH, but, for the moment, none had changed the place of TURP as the gold standard treatment for medium sized prostates. Based on a large personal experience, the authors present a study in which TURP is used for prostates over 80 ml, the cutoff point set by the guidelines of the European Association of Urology.

There are still many things to be found out about interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) because the pathological processes underlying the condition are not yet elucidated, biological markers of the condition are not yet available, and the type and severity of symptoms can vary, so, clearly defining the condition is not yet possible. For example, it is not clearly understood whether IC/PBS represents a systemic disease, if it is localized in the bladder, or if it was initially localized in the bladder and it later evolved into a systemic disease. This condition is best managed by using a multidisciplinary approach.
