Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of pathological proteins and synaptic dysfunction. This study aims to investigate the molecular and functional differences between human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) derived from patients with sporadic AD (sAD) and age-matched controls (healthy subjects, HS), focusing on their neuronal differentiation and synaptic properties in order to better understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying AD pathology.
Methods: Skin fibroblasts from sAD patients (n = 5) and HS subjects (n = 5) were reprogrammed into hiPSCs using non-integrating Sendai virus vectors.

Introduction: In recent years, the number of migrants referred to centres for cognitive disorders and dementias has increased. The aim of this study was to provide information on the provision of care for migrants with dementia through the perceptions and experiences of the professionals and caregivers involved.
Methods: The study is an exploratory qualitative research.

Introduction: Disulfiram (DF), acamprosate, naltrexone, baclofen and sodium oxybate (SO) are currently the medications approved for the treatment of alcohol use disorder (AUD). In this context, combined pharmacological interventions and sex differences are an interesting area in the treatment of non-responder AUD patients.
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of SO in combination with DF in maintaining alcohol abstinence in patients with AUD who failed to achieve abstinence either with SO or DF alone.

Aseptic abscesses syndrome is a rare but increasingly recognized disease that falls within the spectrum of autoinflammatory disorders. Here, we describe the case of a patient who presented with abdominal pain and fever, along with multiple abdominal and extra-abdominal abscesses, in the absence of underlying hematologic, autoimmune, infectious, or neoplastic conditions. Initially, the patient responded to glucocorticoids, but experienced several flares upon discontinuation, leading to the initiation of treatment with a TNFα inhibitor.

The aim of this finite element analysis (FEA) was to investigate the distribution of von Mises stress within dental implant components, as well as trabecular and cortical bone. The study considered various bone qualities that influence cortical thickness in contact with the implant, specifically examining cortical thicknesses of 0.5, 1.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women. In advanced stages of the disease, breast cancer can spread and metastasize to the bone, contributing to malignant progression. The roles of tissue stiffness and remodeling of the tumor microenvironment are relevant in influencing cancer progression and invasiveness, but they are still poorly understood.

Retinal neurodegeneration (RN), an early marker of diabetic retinopathy (DR), is closely associated with Müller glia cells (MGs) in diabetic subjects. MGs play a pivotal role in maintaining retinal homeostasis, integrity, and metabolic support and respond to diabetic stress. In lower vertebrates, MGs have a strong regenerative response and can completely repair the retina after injuries.

Typical absence seizures represent a distinctive form of epileptic activity typically observed in pediatric populations, predominantly manifesting between the ages of 4 and 10, constituting Childhood Absence Epilepsy (CAE). However, a subset of patients presents with Early-onset Absence Epilepsy (EOAE), characterized by seizure onset before the fourth year of life, often displaying favorable outcomes with antiseizure medication. Conversely, atypical absence seizures exhibit prolonged duration and frequently entail tonic, atonic, or myoclonic motor elements, suggesting a more severe clinical course, commonly associated with epileptic encephalopathies of childhood onset.

The objective of this study (registered under number 2020 006) was to assess the internal consistency of the revised Mental Health Professional Culture Inventory (MHPCI) scale, which comprises 15 items, among mental health service workers in Romania. To examine the psychometric properties of the MHPCI questionnaire within the Romanian population, we employed two main methods: The partial credit model (PCM) and Exploratory factor analysis (EFA). A total of 94 individuals were interviewed, and among them, 71 provided complete responses to the questionnaire.

Background: Denosumab, a fully humanized monoclonal neutralizing antibody inhibiting the RANK/RANKL/OPG signaling pathway, is widely used for treating patients with bone metastases. However, its use in cancer patients with bone metastases is burdened by the risk of all grades of hypocalcemia, with the severe grade being rare. In the literature, several cases of severe symptomatic hypocalcemia have been reported, particularly in patients with breast and prostate cancers.

Background: Serum albumin plays a pivotal role in the exchange between interstitial and vascular compartments, and reduced levels of this biomarker appear to be associated with negative prognosis in septic patients. The correlation between the volume effect in sepsis therapy and the kinetics of serum albumin is unclear.
Aim: To investigate the relationship between serum albumin and fluid bolus in relation to its prognostic role in septic patients.

Nanoenergetics are defined as a class of nanomaterials that possess the ability to release energy in certain situations. These properties have been studied and deepened in recent years, so much so that nanoenergetics have been introduced into the use of the weapons industry, among others. It is therefore an emerging reality that deserves attention with regard to potential harmful effects on human and environmental health.

Background: Human memory NK cells represent a heterogeneous CD56 population that expands and persists in human cytomegalovirus (HCMV)-seropositive healthy individuals. They are characterized by the preferential, not fully overlapping, expression of NKG2C (activating receptor for HLA-E) and CD57 maturation marker, and by the lack of FcεRIγ adaptor chain. Hyperresponsiveness to Fcγ receptor IIIA (CD16) engagement represents the distinctive functional signature of memory NK cells.

Opioid-induced constipation (OIC) is a very common and troublesome gastrointestinal side effect following the use of opioids. Despite existing international guidelines, OIC is largely underdiagnosed and undertreated. ECHO OIC is a European project designed to improve the diagnosis and management of OIC at the primary care level.

Introduction: Evidence is consistent with increased screen viewing time among children and adolescents, and anticipation at the age at which children interact with media devices. Incorrect use of technology, as well as overuse, may lead to serious consequences. This study aims to revise scientific international literature and to describe the potential eye risks correlated to screen viewing time in the pediatric age.

: Vaccination is one of the most effective public health interventions, preventing millions of deaths globally each year. However, vaccine hesitancy, driven by misinformation and reduced disease risk perception, has led to declining vaccination rates and the resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) in Europe. In response to this, countries have implemented various strategies, including mandatory and recommended vaccination programs.

Stimuli-responsive nanocomposite gels combine the unique properties of hydrogels with those of nanoparticles, thus avoiding the suboptimal results of single components and creating versatile, multi-functional platforms for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. These hybrid materials are engineered to respond to various internal and external stimuli, such as temperature, pH, light, magnetic fields, and enzymatic activity, allowing precise control over drug release, tissue regeneration, and biosensing. Their responsiveness to environmental cues permits personalized medicine approaches, providing dynamic control over therapeutic interventions and real-time diagnostic capabilities.

Background: Microglia play a crucial role in brain development and repair by facilitating processes such as synaptic pruning and debris clearance. They can be activated in response to various stimuli, leading to either pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory responses associated with specific metabolic alterations. The imbalances between microglia activation states contribute to chronic neuroinflammation, a hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a pivotal organelle responsible for protein and lipid synthesis, calcium homeostasis, and protein quality control within eukaryotic cells. To maintain cellular health, damaged or excess portions of the ER must be selectively degraded via a process known as selective autophagy, or ER-phagy. This specificity is driven by a network of protein receptors and regulatory mechanisms.
