Article Synopsis
  • Anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies can lead to a lack of B-cells, making it hard for some patients to develop an antibody response to COVID-19.
  • A study of 17 patients with low B-cell levels and ongoing COVID-19 symptoms showed significant improvement after receiving COVID-19 convalescent plasma, with most patients feeling better within 48 hours.
  • The treatment was well-tolerated with no adverse effects, suggesting that convalescent plasma may be an effective option for those who struggle to produce antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.

Severe anti-GFAP meningo-encephalomyelitis following viral infection.

Mult Scler Relat Disord

October 2020

Medical Intensive Care and Infectious Diseases Unit, Saint-Andre Hospital, CHU BORDEAUX, 1 rue Jean Burguet, 33075 BORDEAUX CEDEX, France.

Glial fibrillary acidic protein is a recently identified rare cause of autoimmune encephalomyelitis, in which the cerebrospinal fluid shows lymphocytic pleocytosis accompanied by linear perivascular radial gadolinium enhancement in the brain. We report a 19-year-old man admitted to the intensive care unit with suspected viral meningoencephalitis. Magnetic resonance imaging showed mild encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion.

Background: Guidelines that detail preventive measures against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and influenza are published annually in France to decrease the risk of severe infections in immunocompromised patients. We aimed at describing adherence to these guidelines by GPs in the management of their asplenic patients in France between 2013 and 2016.

Method: We conducted a multicenter retrospective study between January 2013 and December 2016 in three French hospitals: asplenic adults were identified and their GPs were questioned.

Introduction: Clinical trials have shown that psoriasis patients who achieve complete skin clearance are more likely to report no impairment in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and no psoriasis symptoms versus patients who achieve almost complete skin clearance. However, real-world data are lacking. The objective of this study was to estimate the real-world proportion of moderate-to-severe psoriasis patients on biologic treatment who achieved a Psoriasis Symptom Inventory (PSI) total score of 0 (PSI 0; no symptoms) and a Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score of 0/1 (DLQI 0/1; no impact on HRQoL), and to study the relationship between patient-reported symptoms and HRQoL versus physician-reported psoriasis severity (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index [PASI]).

Osimertinib is a third-generation, irreversible, oral epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that potently and selectively inhibits both EGFR-TKI sensitizing and EGFR T790M and has demonstrated efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) central nervous system metastases. In this phase I study, we assessed the effects of normal renal function (NRF) and severe renal impairment (SRI) on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of osimertinib in patients with solid tumors. Part A: patients with NRF (creatinine clearance [CrCL] ≥90 mL/min), and SRI, (CrCL <30 mL/min), received a single 80-mg oral dose of osimertinib and standard PK measures were assessed.

Translational Research in Inflammatory Skin Diseases, Institute for Health Services Research in Dermatology and Nursing, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, and Skinflammation® Center, Hamburg, Germany.

Background: Anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) and anti-interleukin (IL)-12/23 biologics revolutionized plaque psoriasis treatment by enabling ≥75% improvement in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI 75) in clinical trials. Modern biologics are now reported to achieve PASI 100 (complete skin clearance) in clinical trials. However, real-world evidence of skin clearance rates with biologics is limited.

Department of Dermatology, Oncodermatology and Interventional Dermatology, Bordeaux University Hospital, Saint-André Hospital, 1, rue Jean-Burguet, 33075 Bordeaux cedex, France; Inserm Unit U1053, Bordeaux Research in Translational Oncology, Bordeaux University, Bordeaux, France. Electronic address:

Introduction: Since surgery is the first-line treatment for basal cell carcinomas (BCC), the histological aggressiveness of the disease must be clinically predicted in order to apply optimal safety margins that ensure a high rate of complete resection while minimising the risk of recurrence.

Objectives: To evaluate clinical predictive factors of histological aggressiveness of BCC, we conducted a national prospective multi-centre study.

Methods: All consecutive patients presenting for BCC surgery were included, and standardised clinical data collected, and slides were submitted for review.
