Atherosclerotic plaque formation is a leading cause of arterial thrombosis that significantly impacts global health by instigating major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) like myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke. Platelets are central to this process, leading to the development of antiplatelet therapies, to mitigate MACE risks. The combination of aspirin with a potent P2Y inhibitor known as dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is the standard for post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) aimed at reducing ischemic events.

In this work, the fluorescent probe 2-amino-4-(1-indol-3-yl)-4-chromene-3-carbonitrile (AICCN) has been used to evaluate its potential as a prospective polarity probe. From detailed fluorescence studies of the probe, it could be shown that AICCN can indeed function as an effective polarity probe. The calculated dipole moments of AICCN in both the ground state and excited state in various solvents lend support to the steady state fluorescence results.

We consider the dynamics of a bio-filament under the collective drive of motor proteins. They are attached irreversibly to a substrate and undergo stochastic attachment-detachment with the filament to produce a directed force on it. We establish the dependence of the mean directed force and force correlations on the parameters describing the individual motor proteins using analytical theory and direct numerical simulations.

Creating a well-defined nanostructure through de-oxyribo nucleic acid (DNA)-nanotechnology, and specifically the development of metal/inorganic semiconductor junctions on DNA-assembled nanostructures, is an emerging research area. Herein, we investigate the electrical properties of biomolecule DNA-template based one-dimensional nanowires (NWs)-CdS/Au and without-template based nanoparticles (NPs)-CdS/Au devices grown on the Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) glass substrates. More importantly, the NWs-CdS/Au device displays a dramatic augmentation of current flow and also a striking change in threshold voltage (~55 mV) in comparison to NPs (~190 mV) and reported bulk-CdS/Au (~680 mV) devices.

IQGAP2, a member of the IQGAP family, functions as a tumor suppressor in most of the cancers. Unlike IQGAP1 and IQGAP3, which function as oncogenes in breast cancer, the role of IQGAP2 is still unexplored. Here we report a reduced expression of IQGAP2, which was associated with lymph node positivity, lymphovascular invasion, and higher age in breast cancer patients.

Astrophysical searches for new long-range interactions complement collider searches for new short-range interactions. Conveniently, neutrino flavor oscillations are keenly sensitive to the existence of long-ranged flavored interactions between neutrinos and electrons, motivated by lepton-number symmetries of the standard model. For the first time, we probe them using TeV-PeV astrophysical neutrinos and accounting for all large electron repositories in the local and distant Universe.

Present global fits of world neutrino data hint towards nonmaximal θ_{23} with two nearly degenerate solutions, one in the lower octant (θ_{23}<π/4), and the other in the higher octant (θ_{23}>π/4). This octant ambiguity of θ_{23} is one of the fundamental issues in the neutrino sector, and its resolution is a crucial goal of next-generation long-baseline (LBL) experiments. In this Letter, we address, for the first time, the impact of a light eV-scale sterile neutrino towards such a measurement, taking the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment as a case study.

A family of five isostructural butterfly complexes with a tetranuclear [Ln ] core of the general formula [Ln (LH) (μ -η η Piv)(η -Piv)(μ -OH) ]⋅x H O⋅y MeOH⋅z CHCl (1: Ln=Dy , x=2, y=2, z=0; 2: Ln=Tb , x=0, y=0, z=6; 3: Ln=Er , x=2, y=2, z=0; 4: Ln=Ho , x=2, y=2, z=0; 5: Ln=Yb , x=2, y=2, z=0; LH =6-{[bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]methyl}-N'-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)picolinohydrazide; PivH=pivalic acid) was isolated and characterized both structurally and magnetically. Complexes 1-5 were probed by direct and alternating current (dc and ac) magnetic susceptibility measurements and, except for 1, they did not display single-molecule magnetism (SMM) behavior. The ac magnetic susceptibility measurements show frequency-dependent out-of-phase signals with one relaxation process for complex 1 and the estimated effective energy barrier for the relaxation process was found to be 49 K.

Although dysregulation of the dopaminergic mesolimbic system is generally considered central to addiction, the involvement of other circuits is increasingly being appreciated. An interaction between locus coeruleus (LC) noradrenergic neurons and the posterior ventral tegmental area (pVTA) dopaminergic system, in the processing of drug-triggered reward, has been suggested, but not demonstrated in behaving animals. Herein, we try to tease out the precise role of noradrenergic neurons in the LC-VTA circuit in mediating reward and reinforcement behavior associated with ethanol.
