Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV), a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus closely related to smallpox. The structure of the A42R profilin-like protein is the first and only available structure among MPXV proteins. Biochemical studies of A42R were conducted in the 1990s and later work also analyzed the protein's function in viral replication in cells.

Floating treatment wetlands (FTWs) are artificial platforms that allow aquatic emergent plants to grow in water. Aquatic macrophytes and microorganisms attached to plant roots contribute to the remediation of the contaminated water through physicochemical and biological processes. The pollutant removal treatment performance is affected by various factors, including the plant species.

Manganese oxides (MnO) have been widely applied in various chemical industrial processes owing to their long lifetime, low cost and high abundance. They have been used as co-reactants for the elimination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs); however, their oxidation mechanism is not clearly established. In this theoretical study, interaction capacities between benzene (CH) and MnO clusters, which were modeled with MnO and MnO molecules, were investigated by quantum chemical computations using density functional theory (DFT) with the PBE-D3 functional.

This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control (FTC) strategy using the current space vectors to diagnose sensor failures and enhance the sustained operation of a field-oriented (FO) controlled induction motor drive (IMD). Three space vectors are established for the sensor fault diagnosis technique, including one converted from the measured currents and the other two calculated from the current estimation technique, respectively, measured and with reference speeds. A mixed mathematical model using three space vectors and their components is proposed to accurately determine the fault condition of each sensor in the motor drive.

Toward the direction of zero‑carbon emission and green technologies for wastewater treatment, algae-based technologies are considered promising candidates to deal with the current situation of pollution and climate change. Recent developments of algae-based technologies have been introduced in previous studies in which their performances were optimized for wastewater treatment and biomass production. Among these, revolving algae biofilm (RAB) reactors have been proven to have a great potential in high biomass productivity, simple harvesting method, great CO transfer rate, high light-use efficiency, heavy metal capture, nutrient removal, and acid mine drainage treatment in previous studies.

This investigation is a review of the potential of aerobic granular sludge membrane bioreactor (AGMBR) in wastewater treatment due to the advantage of combination of membrane and aerobic granules for reducing membrane fouling and enhancing removal performance. The AGMBR is the same as the membrane bioreactor (MBR), but the activated sludge is replaced by aerobic granular sludge. This technology combines the advantages of aerobic granular sludge, such as good settleability, strong ability to withstand shock-loadings and high organic loading rate, and capacity of simultaneous chemical oxygen demand (COD) and nitrogen removal, and advantages of membrane bioreactor (MBR) such as excellent effluent quality, high biomass content, low excess sludge production, and small land requirement.

Biochar usage in soil remediation has turned out to be an enticing topic recently. Biochar, a product formed by pyrolysis of organic waste, which is rich in carbon, has the aptitude to ameliorate climate change by sequestering carbon while also enhancing soil quality and crop yields. Two-edged implications of biochar on soil amendment are still being discussed yet, clarity on the long-term implications of biochar on soil health and the environment is not yet achieved.

Two-dimensional (2D) structures can stably exist in different allotropes. In this manuscript, we propose a new series of Janus structures based on the β-phase of germanium monochalcogenides, namely, β-GeXY (X/Y = S, Se, and Te) monolayers. Our calculations indicate that Janus β-GeXY monolayers have a stable crystal structure and possess anisotropic mechanical properties.

Human beings are frequently exposed to a mixture of chemical pollutants through the ingestion of contaminated drinking water. The present study aimed to assess the ecological and human health risks associated with the contamination of cyanotoxins and heavy metals in a drinking water supply reservoir, the Tri An Reservoir (TAR), in Vietnam. Results demonstrated that the concentrations of individual heavy metals varied in the following order: iron (Fe) > lead (Pb) > arsenic (As) > zinc (Zn).
