Background: Elevated levels of high-sensitive cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) are linked to poor prognosis among emergency department (ED) patients.
Objective: Examine the effect of our ED risk assessment among patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and elevated baseline hs-cTnT levels.
Design: Observational cohort study of 16776 ED patients with chest pain or dyspnoea and a hs-cTnT sample analyzed at the time of the ED visit.

Psoriasis is a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by epidermal proliferation in the skin. Altered lipid metabolism is considered to be a central factor in the psoriatic etiopathogenesis. Thus, it is necessary to visualize chemical specificity of the samples for better medical diagnosis and treatment.

Background: There is a paucity of data on the association between high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) levels and outcomes in patients with chest pain but no myocardial infarction (MI), or any other condition that may lead to acutely elevated troponin levels.
Objectives: The authors hypothesized that any detectable high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) level is associated with adverse outcomes.
Methods: All patients (N = 22,589) >25 years of age with chest pain and hs-cTnT analyzed concurrently in the emergency department of Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden from 2011 to 2014 were eligible for inclusion.

Background: Elevated troponin levels, in patients without myocardial infarction (MI), are associated with increased mortality. In an observational cohort study we aimed to assess how patients with elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) levels, and no MI are investigated and followed up, compared to patients with MI.
Methods: During January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012, all patients >25years of age, with chest pain and elevated hs-cTnT levels or MI, at the Karolinska University Hospital were included.

Introduction: Hypothyroidism is a common disorder, appearing mainly in women although less frequently found in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The objective was to test the hypothesis that hyperandrogenism might protect against hypothyroidism.
Material And Methods: The data from three prospective follow-up studies (up to 21 years) and one register study were compared: women with PCOS (Rotterdam criteria), n = 25, women with Turner syndrome, n = 217, a random population sample of women, n = 315, and men, n = 95 (the WHO MONICA study).

Peripheral insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism are the primary features of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, how insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism affect uterine function and contribute to the pathogenesis of PCOS are open questions. We treated rats with insulin alone or in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and showed that peripheral insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism alter uterine morphology, cell phenotype, and cell function, especially in glandular epithelial cells.

Objective: There is limited information about the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and the effects of treatment on immigrants. The effects of oral vitamin D intake and UVB treatment on vitamin D status in healthy Somali women living in Sweden were analysed.
Design: Two studies were carried out; a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, with oral drops of 800 IU and 1600 IU cholecalciferol and similar amounts of placebo given daily during 12 weeks and a single-blind, placebo-controlled study, using UVB (4·3-8·7 J/cm(2) ) or Woods lamp (placebo) on the upper body, or the face and hands.

Context: Growth hormone (GH) treatment increases bone mineral density (BMD) in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Objective: The objective was to report bone data, fractures, and quality of life (QoL) in a 10-year follow-up of women who had received GH for 3 years and compared with controls followed in parallel.
Design And Setting: A follow-up of a double-blind, placebo-controlled study conducted at Sahlgrenska University Hospital was performed.

Background: Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), produced in the skin by UVB irradiation (290-315nm) of 7-dehydrocholesterol, is metabolized in the liver into 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] which is a major circulating metabolite.
Aim: To examine changes in serum concentrations of cholecalciferol and its metabolites after UVB exposure of different skin areas.
Methods: 21 healthy Caucasians (skin type II and III, aged 23-47years) were exposed to broadband UVB (290-320nm) and randomized to either exposure to one minimal erythema dose given as a single dose, or a suberythemic dose given for 3 subsequent days.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the extent of change in troponin T levels in patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI).
Background: Changes in cardiac troponin T (cTnT) levels are required for the diagnosis of NSTEMI, according to the new universal definition of acute myocardial infarction. A relative change of 20% to 230% and an absolute change of 7 to 9 ng/l have been suggested as cutoff points.

Recently, Roche announced a problem with the calibrators for their high sensitive cardiac troponin T (hscTnT) assay. We have monitored the performance of the assay since its introduction into clinical use in December 2009 and we're in a unique position to provide quantitative information concerning the effects of this problem. Our data document that the measured cTnT concentration in the hscTnT assay dropped by 5.

Design: A random population sample was studied twice and subjects of similar age group were compared 13 years apart.
Methods: X-ray-verified fractures were retrieved from a random population sample of 2400 men and women (participants 1616=67%) aged 25-64 years from the WHO, MONICA Project in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1995 and 2008.

Background: High-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (cTnT) assays detect small clinically important myocardial infarctions (MI) but also yield higher rates of false-positive results owing to increased concentrations sometimes present in patients without MI. Better understanding is needed of factors influencing the 99th percentile of cTnT concentrations across populations and the frequency of changes in cTnT concentrations >20% often used in combination with increased cTnT concentrations for diagnosis of MI.
Methods: cTnT percentiles were determined by use of the Elecsys® hscTnT immunoassay (Modular® Analytics E170) in a random population sample, in emergency room (ER) patients, and in patients with non-ST-elevation MI (NSTEMI).

Context: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with the metabolic syndrome and, consequently, with a potentially increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and related mortality later in life. Studies regarding CVD and mortality in PCOS women well into the postmenopausal age are lacking.
Objective: Our objective was to examine whether postmenopausal PCOS women differ from controls regarding cardiovascular risk factors, myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and mortality.

Summary: Risk factors for hip fracture were studied in 7,495 randomly selected men during 30 years; 451 men had a hip fracture. High degree of leisure-time, but not work-related, physical activity, high occupational class, and high body mass index (BMI) protected against hip fracture. Smoking, tall stature, interim stroke, and dementia increased the risk.
