Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate how fear of reinjury to the Achilles tendon affects return to previous levels of physical activity and self-reported Achilles tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS) outcomes.
Methods: Data were collected from a large cohort of patients treated for an acute Achilles tendon rupture at Sahlgrenska University Hospital Mölndal between 2015 and 2020. The ATRS and additional questions concerning fear of reinjury, treatment modality, satisfaction of treatment and recovery were analyzed 1-6 years postinjury.

Background: The long-term risk for depression among adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) is unclear. Therefore, we assessed the risk for first onset of serious depression in patients with ACHD compared with a sex- and age-matched control population without a congenital heart disease (CHD) diagnosis.
Methods: We extracted all patients with CHD born from 1970 to 1999 who survived until age 18 years from the Swedish National Patient Register.

Aim: Ileo-rectal anastomosis (IRA) is an option to restore bowel continuity after colectomy in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Concerns that the remaining rectum may serve as a site for continuing proctitis with subsequent poor function and IRA failure and the fear of development of dysplasia and cancer have led to the abandonment of IRA in large parts of the world. This study investigated the outcome of IRA in a large patient cohort with UC and IRA with regard to failure of IRA and development of dysplasia and cancer.

Background: The aim of this study was to adapt the instrument and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Swedish version of the Swallowing Quality of Care questionnaire (S-SWAL-CARE) in patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia.
Methods: Translation and adaptation of the original SWAL-CARE into Swedish was performed according to established international guidelines. Field testing was performed using 100 patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia due to multiple reasons such as head and neck cancer and neurologic/neuromuscular disease, who had undergone swallowing evaluation within 6 months prior to the study.

Background: Studies have demonstrated the development of an osseous reaction at the drill sites of anchors after arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
Purpose: To investigate the drill-hole size at 18 years after arthroscopic Bankart repair using either fast polygluconate acid (PGA) or slow polylevolactic acid (PLLA) absorbable tacks and to compare the functional outcomes and development of osteoarthritis.
Study Design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 2.

Purpose: To analyze biopsy samples from the subscapularis tendon and from the joint capsule from male patients with subacromial impingement syndrome and compare them with samples from male patients with post-traumatic recurrent shoulder instability, to detect increased inflammatory activity that might be present inside the humeroscapular joint.
Methods: Twenty male patients scheduled for surgery for either subacromial decompression or Bankart reconstruction were included. Four biopsies from each patient were obtained during surgery from the capsule and the subscapularis tendon.
Background Low income and short education have been found to be independently associated with inferior survival after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), whereas the use of secondary prevention medications is associated with improved survival. We investigated whether underusage of secondary prevention medications contributes to the inferior long-term survival in CABG patients with a low income and short education. Methods and Results Patients who underwent CABG in Sweden between 2006 to 2015 and survived at least 6 months after discharge (n=28 448) were included in a population-based cohort study.

Department of Radiation Physics, Institute of Clinical Sciences, the Sahlgrenska Academy Gothenburg University, 413 45 Gothenburg, Sweden.
Background And Purpose: Dysphagia is a common, severe and dose-limiting toxicity after oncological treatment of head and neck cancer (HNC). This study aims to investigate relationships between radiation doses to structures involved in normal swallowing and patient-reported as well as clinically measured swallowing function in HNC patients after curative (chemo-) radiation therapy (RT) with focus on late effects.
Materials And Methods: Patients (n = 90) with HNC curatively treated with RT ± chemotherapy in 2007-2015 were assessed for dysphagia post-treatment by telephone interview and videofluoroscopy (VFS).
Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate team composition and staff roles in a hybrid operating room during endovascular aortic repairs.
Design: Quantitative descriptive design.
Methods: Nine endovascular aortic repairs procedures were video-recorded between December 2014 and September 2015.

Background: The long-term outcome after the treatment of subacromial impingement syndrome (SAIS) with either nonsurgical or surgical methods has not been thoroughly investigated. Hypothesis/Purpose: The purpose was to evaluate the long-term clinical outcome and the presence of rotator cuff injuries and osteoarthritis (OA) after the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of SAIS. The hypothesis was that, at a minimum 10 years after the initial treatment, patients who had undergone acromioplasty would have a better clinical outcome and run a lower risk of developing rotator cuff ruptures and OA as compared with those treated with physical therapy.

TREM2 is an innate immune receptor expressed on the surface of microglia. Loss-of-function mutations of TREM2 are associated with increased risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). TREM2 is a type-1 protein with an ectodomain that is proteolytically cleaved and released into the extracellular space as a soluble variant (sTREM2), which can be measured in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Background: The human H-transferase (α2FucT) was introduced in Gal-negative pigs to produce pig organs not only free from Gal-antigens, but also in which the uncapped N-acetyllactosamine precursor had been transformed into non-xenogenic blood group H type 2 compounds. This work is the first descriptive analysis of glycolipids from the GalT-KO/FucT-TG pig. The aim was to investigate the cell membrane antigens in GalT-KO/FucT-TG tissues to explore its efficacy as an organ donor.

Purpose: Patent foramen ovale (PFO) has been implicated as a risk factor for cryptogenic ischemic stroke (CS). However, there is still a lack of widely accepted, undisputed indications for PFO closure. The present study describes the concept of the multidisciplinary PFO conference and a decision making process for closure versus no closure that was developed into a formalized clinical algorithm, and presents the results of implementing these, in terms of number and proportion of PFO closures as well as repeat referrals.

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is a common disease that often remains undetected and causes severe disturbance especially in postmenopausal women. Therefore, national recommendations promoting early pHPT detection by plasma calcium (P-Ca) have been issued in Sweden. In this study we aimed to investigate variation of P-Ca analysis between physicians and health care centres (HCCs) in primary care in county of Skaraborg, Sweden.
