Tibial periprosthetic fractures in Total Knee Arthroplasty - A scoping review.

Background: Periprosthetic tibial fractures in Total Knee Arthroplasty are much less commonly seen than femoral fractures, and there is a paucity of available literature and management recommendation for these fractures. We aimed to identify the relevant and up-to-date literature on this subject to analyse the incidence, risk factors, and management recommendations.

COVID-19 pandemic and it's consequent biomedical waste is an unprecedented challenge worldwide. Biomedical waste generated during COVID-19 patient isolation, testing and care needs special consideration as it challenges the previous notion that only 15-20% of waste can be considered infectious. With establishment of new home quarantine facility, isolation/quarantine centres the chances of general waste getting contaminated with biomedical waste has increased exponentially.

Out Patient Department practices in orthopaedics amidst COVID-19: The evolving model.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic on 11 March 2020 by the World Health Organization and consequent lockdown imposed in several areas resulted in a marked reduction in orthopaedic practices. Although some guidelines for patient care in orthopaedic practice have been published, overall, publications focusing exclusively on guidelines on starting orthopaedic outpatient departments (OPD) after the COVID-19 lockdown amidst the on-going pandemic are lacking. We hereby propose the evolving knowledge in changes in OPD management practices for orthopaedic surgeons in the COVID- 19 era.

Background: We have studied the growth of Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma (JCOT), the official journal of the Delhi Orthopaedic Association indexed in PubMed, Scopus and Embase, along with an analysis of citation trends and levels of evidence of published articles in the last five years.

Methods: SCOPUS and PubMed databases (2015-19) were used to extract publication-related data for the last five years. The official website of the journal was also used to retrieve issue-specific data.

Assessment of core capacities for antimicrobial stewardship practices in indian hospitals: Report from a multicentric initiative of global health security agenda.

Introduction: Antimicrobial-resistant HAI (Healthcare associated infection) are a global challenge due to their impact on patient outcome. Implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programmes (AMSP) is needed at institutional and national levels. Assessment of core capacities for AMSP is an important starting point to initiate nationwide AMSP.

Nasendoscopic Findings of Velopharyngeal Sphincter in Operated Cleft Palate Patients: Is It Different than Normal Population.

This study was aimed for nasendoscopic assessment of velopharyngeal sphinteric closure in patients with operated cleft palate and to compare it with normal population. A cross-sectional study was done in a tertiary cleft care center in 30 patients with operated cleft palate after a minimum of 6 months of their surgery and 30 randomly selected volunteers with normal speech. Both groups were one-time evaluated by three observers using 70 degree rigid nasendoscope and/or pediatric fiber optic endoscope.

This study aims to study the publication trends in articular cartilage repair (ACR) techniques, over the last 10 years. A literature search was performed on the PubMed, Web of Science, and SCOPUS databases. We used suitable keywords and Boolean operators (articular cartilage injury AND "marrow stimulation OR microfracture (MFx)," "osteochondral autograft," "osteochondral allograft" and "autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI)," "scaffold"), on January 1, 2019.

Removal of intra-operatively broken flexible reamer: An innovative use of jumbo cutter.

Reaming is an important step in long bone nailing and has a low complication rate. We report a case of a flexible reamer that got broken and incarcerated in the femoral canal during reaming in a segmental femur fracture. Routine extraction using guide wire was not possible.

Adipofascial perforator flaps: Its role in reconstruction of soft-tissue defects of lower leg and ankle.

Background: Despite advances in surgical skills, adipofascial flaps are still less preferred option for coverage of leg defect. We evaluate the use of perforator-based adipofascial flap in small-to-medium-sized soft-tissue defects in the lower limb.

Patients And Methods: After localisation of perforators along the major axial vessels in the lower limb using handheld Doppler, adipofascial flap based on the nearest best perforator of anterior tibial artery, posterior tibial artery and peroneal artery was raised to cover soft-tissue defect in 21 patients.

3D printing and its applications in orthopaedic trauma: A technological marvel.

Background: With rapid emergence of 3D printing technology, surgeons have recently started to apply this for nearly all areas of orthopaedic trauma surgery. Computed tomography or magnetic resonance images of trauma patients can be utilized for making graspable objects from 3D reconstructed images. Patient specific anatomical models can thereby be created.

Publication trends and knowledge mapping in 3D printing in orthopaedics.

Purpose: Three dimensional (3D) printing, also called 'rapid prototyping' and 'additive manufacturing' is considered as a "second industrial revolution." With this rapidly emerging technology, CT or MR images are used for the creation of graspable objects from 3D reconstituted images. Patient-specific anatomical models can be, therefore, manufactured efficiently.

Suture Pullout Technique of Acute Anterior Cruciate Ligament Femoral Avulsion Repair.

It was in the early 1900s that anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair was first described with its resurgence in the mid-1900s. It however failed to gain popularity because of unsatisfactory early outcomes as a result of poorly selected patients. We describe a suture pullout technique of acute ACL repair in a carefully selected cohort of patients.

Anthropometric and Radiologic Measurements of Coracoid Dimensions and Clinical Implications in an Indian Population.

Background: Recurrent shoulder dislocation and anterior instability are most commonly attributed to pathology of the capsulolabral complex with the presence of bony loss at the humeral and glenoid surfaces. Unassessed bone loss has been a cause of failure of primary soft tissue procedures or recurrence of symptoms, despite adequate address of soft tissue pathology.

Purpose: To study the anthropometric and radiologic dimensions of the coracoid in relation to glenoid bone loss, its adequacy in filling glenoid defects in an Indian population, and whether the choice of surgical technique (congruent arc vs classical) and graft positioning alters the surgical results.

Practice Guidelines for the Management of Multiligamentous Injuries of the Knee.

Background: Multiligamentous injuries of knee remain a gray area as far as guidelines for management are concerned due to absence of large-scale, prospective controlled trials. This article reviews the recent evidence-based literature and trends in treatment of multiligamentous injuries and establishes the needful protocol, keeping in view the current concepts.

Materials And Methods: Two reviewers individually assessed the available data indexed on PubMed and Medline and compiled data on incidence, surgical versus nonsurgical treatment, timing of surgery, and repair versus reconstruction of multiligamentous injury.

High tibial osteotomy accelerates lateral compartment osteoarthritis in discoid meniscus patients.

Purpose: The valgus high tibial osteotomy (HTO) in patients with medial osteoarthritis and discoid lateral meniscus can result in increased load on the lateral compartment and hence a higher chances of tear. This may accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis on lateral compartment. We, therefore, carried out the case control study with a hypothesis that an HTO would accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis (OA) on lateral compartment in patients with complete discoid meniscus.

Scald burn, a preventable injury: Analysis of 4306 patients from a major tertiary care center.

Background: Scalds have distinct epidemiological and predisposing risk factors amongst all types of burns. Though scald affects all age groups, the brunt falls on the minor age groups. It may result in major physical disabilities and significant loss of school years.
