Despite advances in the field of male reproductive health, idiopathic male infertility, in which a man has altered semen characteristics without an identifiable cause and there is no female factor infertility, remains a challenging condition to diagnose and manage. Increasing evidence suggests that oxidative stress (OS) plays an independent role in the etiology of male infertility, with 30% to 80% of infertile men having elevated seminal reactive oxygen species levels. OS can negatively affect fertility a number of pathways, including interference with capacitation and possible damage to sperm membrane and DNA, which may impair the sperm's potential to fertilize an egg and develop into a healthy embryo.

Background: Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) enzyme is known enzyme with, aryl esterase, phosphatase, peroxidase, and lactonase activities. According to some studies, the activity of PON1 enzyme is decreased in type 2 diabetic patients. We analyzed the enzyme activity and its single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) distribution on promoter regions (-108, -126, and -162) in type 2 diabetic patients compared with non-diabetic individuals to reveal the likely relationship between PON1 activity and its gene promoter polymorphisms.

Background: The ischemic preconditioning phenomenon can save myocardium against move severe ischemic damages and reduce infarction size and furthermore a heart rhythm disturbance. In this study we examine relationship between troponin I (as a structural myocardial protein) level and anesthetic agents in the children.

Materials And Methods: In this study 84 children under 12 years age before cardiac surgery were divided randomly into two groups of 42 each.

Introduction: The exact amount of vitamin D required for pregnant women to adequately supply the foetus during pregnancy is still unclear. This randomised trial attempted to determine the optimal dose of vitamin D necessary during pregnancy in order to attain a vitamin D level > 20 ng/mL in neonates.

Methods: A total of 51 healthy, pregnant women in Yazd, Iran, were recruited in 2009.

Background And Study Aims: Tamoxifen used in the treatment of breast cancer is reported to cause hepatic steatosis. This study aimed to assess the incidence and risk factors of the development of fatty liver disease, resulting from tamoxifen use, in females with breast cancer.

Patients And Methods: Seventy females aged between 28 and 80years with breast cancer were recruited from Shahid Sadoughi Clinic, Yazd, Iran in 2006-2008.

Although ezetimibe therapy has been shown to be effective in lowering serum cholesterol level, it has not been reported to affect serum cyclosporine level in transplant recipients. Here, we describe a kidney transplant recipient who experienced acute kidney allograft dysfunction after ezetimibe prescription. Our patient showed an increase in serum creatinine level as well as a decrease in serum cyclosporine levels 1 month after taking ezetimibe.

Introduction: Among the complications of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy are perinephric bleeding and hypertension.

Case Presentation: We describe the case of a 31-year-old Asian man with an unusual case of hemoptysis and lung contusion and cavitation with exudative plural effusion due to pulmonary trauma following false positioning of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Differential diagnoses included pneumonia and pulmonary emboli, but these diagnoses were ruled out by the uniformly negative results of a lung perfusion scan, Doppler ultrasound, and culture of bronchoalveolar lavage and plural effusion, and because our patient showed spontaneous improvement.

Vascular injuries with acute or chronic arterial hemorrhage after femoral shaft fractures are a rare but a life-threatening complication. We observed a case of iatrogenic rupture of the profunda femoris artery after the internal fixation of a femoral shaft fracture. The pseudoaneurysm, presenting with painful expansile swelling and hemodynamic instability, together with the rupture was evident on femoral angiography.

Objective: Is assess the effects of angiotensin II type-I receptor blockers on outcomes in renal transplant recipients without proteinuria or posttransplantation erythrocytosis.

Patients And Methods: Fifty renal transplant recipients (30 men and 20 women, with a mean [SD] age of 40 [13] years) were randomized into 2 groups of 25 patients each; 1 group was treated with losartan for 1 year, and the other was not (control group). Blood pressure and other biochemical parameters were measured at baseline and at 6 and 12 months posttransplantation.

Introduction: Hyperhomocysteinemia frequently occurs after renal transplantation. We therefore assessed whether serum homocysteine (Hcy) concentrations were correlated with clinical, paraclinical, and arterial Doppler parameters among renal transplant patients.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 47 patients (30 males, 17 females) who received unrelated living donor renal transplants.

Background: Acute renal failure is a common complication of cardiac surgery, with oxidants found to play an important role in renal injury. We therefore assessed whether the supplemental antioxidant vitamin E and the inhibitor of xanthine oxidase allopurinol could prevent renal dysfunction after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Methods: Of 60 patients with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) < 60 mL/min scheduled to undergo CABG surgery, 30 were randomized to treatment with vitamin E and allopurinol for 3-5 days before surgery and 30 to no treatment.

Background: Color Doppler sonography indices, such as resistive index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI), can predict arteriosclerosis of internal renal vessels after kidney transplantation. Angiotensin II receptor antagonists, however, may have antiatherogenic effects. We therefore assessed the effects of losartan on RIs of renal allografts.

Introduction: We measured bone mineral density (BMD) before and after transplantation to determine the frequency and severity of preoperative and postoperative osteoporosis and compare them with the BMD in healthy individuals.

Materials And Methods: We determined the BMD at the lumbar spine and femoral levels in 22 men and 18 women who were on long-term dialysis in Yazd, Iran, and a group of kidney transplant recipients including 43 men and 18 women. They were compared with each other and healthy individuals studied in a recent study in Iran.

Introduction: Cutaneous mucormycosis is a rare entity related to kidney transplantation. It usually presents with ecthyma-like lesions and black necrotic cellulitis. We report an unusual case of primary cutaneous mucormycosis presenting as erythema-nodosum-like lesions in a woman who had received a renal transplant.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is one of the most frequent complications that occur after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Recently, renal involvement, including membranous nephropathy, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, and minimal change disease, has been described as a manifestation of chronic GVHD. This case report describes a patient who developed antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated glomerulonephritis after HSCT.

Clinicians strive to reduce the exposure of patients to X-ray radiation in an effort to decrease its harmful effects on the body. A potential strategy for achieving this goal is the use of high-speed films that require less exposure to radiation to generate a diagnostic image. There are two film types commonly used in intraoral radiography: high speed or "Ekta-speed" film (Type E) and normal speed or Ultra-speed film (Type D).

The mandible like other bones of the body has a series of anatomical landmarks that can serve as radiographic indicators. Using these indicators it is possible to evaluate changes in bone with respect to its quantity or quality by different methods of taking images.
