Objective: To describe knowledge translation (KT) research as a means of changing practice behaviors in rehabilitation. We specifically aimed to explore how theories, models, and frameworks (TMFs) are used to guide KT, guide methods to tailor KT interventions, and evaluate outcomes. We hypothesized these methods would have increased over the past 10 years.

Objective: The purposes of this study were to determine whether there are differences between the dominant and nondominant arms for the Median Neurodynamic Test 1 (MNT 1); whether there are differences between men and women on the MNT 1; the reliability of an assessment of resting scapular position; the reliability of the MNT 1; and the frequency and percentage of sensory responses that are present during the MNT 1 in the asymptomatic population.

Methods: This was a reliability and agreement study. It included asymptomatic students enrolled in the college of health professions and the college of nursing at a university.

Emphasizing Task-Specific Hypertrophy to Enhance Sequential Strength and Power Performance.

J Funct Morphol Kinesiol

Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education, Department of Sport, Exercise, Recreation, and Kinesiology, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN 37604, USA.

While strength is indeed a skill, most discussions have primarily considered structural adaptations rather than ultrastructural augmentation to improve performance. Altering the structural component of the muscle is often the aim of hypertrophic training, yet not all hypertrophy is equal; such alterations are dependent upon how the muscle adapts to the training stimuli and overall training stress. When comparing bodybuilders to strength and power athletes such as powerlifters, weightlifters, and throwers, while muscle size may be similar, the ability to produce force and power is often inequivalent.

Background Duloxetine is currently approved for chronic pain management; however, despite some evidence, its utility in acute, postoperative pain remains unclear Aim of the review This systematic review and meta-analysis is to determine if duloxetine 60 mg given perioperatively, is safe and effective at reducing postoperative opioid consumption and reported pain following elective orthopedic surgery. Method CINAHL, Medline, Cochrane Central Registry for Clinical Trials, Google Scholar, and Clinicaltrials.gov were searched using a predetermined search strategy from inception to January 15, 2019.

Background: There is considerable overlap between pain referral patterns from the lumbar disc, lumbar facets, the sacroiliac joint (SIJ), and the hip. Additionally, sciatic like symptoms may originate from the lumbar spine or secondary to extra-spinal sources such as deep gluteal syndrome (GPS). Given that there are several overlapping potential anatomic sources of symptoms that may be synchronous in patients who have low back pain (LBP), it may not be realistic that a linear deductive approach can be used to establish a diagnosis and direct treatment in this group of patients.

Objective: To compare the parameters of gait kinematics of older adults with cognitive impairment who live in community dwellings or those living or spending most of the time in non-family environment settings.

Methods: The sample was composed of 33 older adults of both sexes with cognitive impairment. Participants were separated into three groups: a community-dwelling older adult group comprised of 11 subjects; a semi-institutionalized older adult group comprised of 10 older adults attended in a geriatric daycare institution; and an institutionalized older adult group comprised of 12 older adults living in long-term institutions.

Elite human and animal athletes must acquire the fuels necessary for extreme feats, but also contend with the oxidative damage associated with peak metabolic performance. Here, we show that a migratory bird with fuel stores composed of more omega-6 polyunsaturated fats (PUFA) expended 11% less energy during long-duration (6 hr) flights with no change in oxidative costs; however, this short-term energy savings came at the long-term cost of higher oxidative damage in the omega-6 PUFA-fed birds. Given that fatty acids are primary fuels, key signaling molecules, the building blocks of cell membranes, and that oxidative damage has long-term consequences for health and ageing, the energy savings-oxidative cost trade-off demonstrated here may be fundamentally important for a wide diversity of organisms on earth.

Introduction: There is a lack of understanding of the impact of generalized joint mobility, joint hypermobility, and resting scapular position on neurodynamic testing of the median nerve. The objectives of the study were to determine: 1) the reliability of the Beighton score (BS) with and without the cutoff score for general joint hypermobility (GJH); 2) if there are differences in the Median Neurodynamic Test 1 (MNT 1) based on the Beighton cutoff score for GJH; 3) if there are differences in the MNT 1 based on an assessment of resting scapular position; 4) if there are relationships between the BS with and without the cutoff score for GJH, resting scapular position, and MNT 1.

Methods: Testing was performed by two testers at two-time intervals at least 1 week apart.

Article Synopsis
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a pain management technique that has shown significant benefits when added to standard pain relief methods for patients after cardiothoracic surgery.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis indicated that TENS significantly reduced pain levels at rest and during coughing, and also improved pulmonary function metrics like FEV1 and forced vital capacity.
  • Overall, incorporating TENS into postoperative care can enhance pain relief, reduce reliance on analgesics, and aid faster recovery for these patients.

In this article, we provide a narrative review of research literature on the development of pragmatic skills and the social uses of language in children and adolescents, with a focus on those who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH). In the review, we consider how pragmatic skills may develop over time for DHH children and adolescents depending on age, language context, amplification devices, and languages and communication modalities. The implications of these findings for enhancing intervention programs for DHH children and adolescents and for considering ideal contexts for optimizing the pragmatic development of DHH children are considered.

Testing is a crucial strategy to control the spread of a pandemic. Voluntary participation in this strategy will depend on individual preferences towards and willingness-to-pay (WTP) for test results. We distributed a web-based, contingent valuation survey to social-media users in 16 Latin American countries to evaluate regional attitudes towards the emerging COVID-19 outbreak and WTP for COVID-19 testing.
