Section of Dermatology and Venereology, Department of Medicine, University of Verona, Verona, Italy.

Introduction: Chronic hand eczema (CHE) is an inflammatory skin condition characterized by different pathomechanisms, clinical presentations, and prognoses. Treatment is often challenging because of limited approved drugs, and severe CHE is associated with reduced quality of life (QoL) and poor overall health measures in terms of psychological, functional, and occupational challenges. This study aims to describe the real-life management practices of Italian dermatologists who frequently treat patients with CHE, compare these practices with existing guidelines, and propose practical clinical recommendations for the management of these patients.

Introduction: A decline in sports activities among children and adolescents was noted during the stay-at-home restrictions imposed by COVID-19. With the easing of restrictions, physical activities are being resumed.

Evidence Acquisition: A data search was conducted to identify the role of parents in resuming sporting activities, the risks and benefits of doing so, the physical examination to be conducted prior to physical activity, the existence of guidelines/protocols for return to sports and physical activity, the role of comorbidities in influencing the restart of the same.

Introduction: Recent studies indicated tumors may be comprised of heterogeneous molecular subtypes and incongruent molecular portraits may emerge if different areas of the tumor are sampled. This study explored the impact of intra-tumoral heterogeneity in terms of activation/phosphorylation of FDA approved drug targets and downstream kinase substrates.

Material And Methods: Two independent sets of liver metastases from colorectal cancer were used to evaluate protein kinase-driven signaling networks within different areas using laser capture microdissection and reverse phase protein array.

To validate autocontouring software (AS) in a clinical practice including a two steps delineation quality assurance (QA) procedure. The existing delineation agreement among experts for rectal cancer and the overlap and time criteria that have to be verified to allow the use of AS were defined.Median Dice Similarity Coefficient (MDSC), Mean slicewise Hausdorff Distances (MSHD) and Total-Time saving (TT) were analyzed.

Hypermethylation of DAPK1 promoter gene was found to be a frequent epigenetic alteration in follicular lymphoma (FL). We evaluated whether the quantification of DAPK1 methylation in the bone marrow (BM) and peripheral blood of FL patients at diagnosis and during follow-up provides important prognostic information. DAPK1 methylation was quantitated by real-time MethyLight PCR in 107 patients at diagnosis, at end of therapy, and during follow-up.

The Human Genome Project has been completed thanks to a massive use of computer techniques, as well as the adoption of the open-source business and research model by the scientists involved. This model won over the proprietary model and allowed a quick propagation and feedback of research results among peers. In this paper, the author will analyse some ethical and legal issues emerging by the use of such computer model in the Human Genome property rights.

In this paper I analyse the ethical implications of the two main competing methodologies in genomic research. I do not aim to provide another contribution from the mainstream legal and public policy perspective; rather I offer a novel approach in which I analyse and describe the patent-and-publish regime (the proprietary regime) led by biologist J. Craig Venter and the 'open-source' methodologies led by biotechnology Nobel laureate John Sulston.

Preliminary pharmacogenetic data suggest that germline genetic informations might be of value in individualizing disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) therapy in various autoimmune chronic inflammatory diseases. Either DMARDs small molecules (DMARDs-SM) or DMARDs biological therapies (DMARDs-BT) might be selected for their lower toxicity or better efficacy based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of genes governing the metabolism of drugs, or the response of immune cells to proinflammatory molecules, or the proinflammatory molecular activity of immune cells. Data available for one DMARDs-SM, methotrexate, suggest that a careful assessment of the SNPs of four enzymes involved in the folate metabolism allow one to construct a genetic index of toxicity (toxicogenetic index) that might be employed in daily practice to find the patient's most at risk.
