Front Allergy

August 2024

Clinical Immunology, Angioedema and Allergy Unit, Center for Autoimmune Diseases, Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on peanut allergy in children, emphasizing the need for improved diagnostic and treatment materials, particularly exploring the allergen content in peanut seeds at different developmental stages.
  • Researchers collected and analyzed peanut seeds across five stages of development, noting that allergenic proteins increased as seeds matured, while earlier stages showed a lower risk of allergenicity due to less concentrated proteins.
  • Findings suggest that the lower peanut-specific IgE binding in immature seeds could aid in creating safer oral immunotherapy treatments by indicating better times to introduce peanuts to allergic children.

Apical sparing is an echocardiographic pattern where myocardial strain is preserved at the apex compared to the basal segments. In a normal heart, longitudinal strain shows a gradient with lower values at the base and higher at the apex. This gradient becomes more pronounced in pathological states, such as cardiac amyloidosis, resulting in a relative apical sparing effect.

Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are activated upon cyclin-binding to enable progression through the cell cycle. Dominant CDKs and cyclins in mammalian cells include CDK1, CDK2, CDK4, and CDK6 and corresponding cyclins A, B, D, and E. While only certain, "typical" cyclin/CDK complexes are primarily responsible for cell cycle progression, "atypical" cyclin/CDK complexes can form and sometimes perform the same roles as typical complexes.

Background And Objective: Local intraprostatic radiorecurrence of prostate cancer (IPR-PC) can be associated with an aggressive natural history and impact long-term disease-specific survival. While appropriate local salvage intervention can be curative, best practices for workup and local salvage of intraprostatic recurrence are poorly defined. The American Radium Society (ARS) Genitourinary Appropriate Use Criteria Committee sought to develop evidence-based recommendations to address this gap.

September 2024

Laboratory for Immunology and Hematology Research, Rabin Medical Center, Hasharon Hospital, Petah-Tiqva, the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Ramat Aviv, 69978, Israel.

Resveratrol (RSV), the primary polyphenol found in grapes, has been revealed to have anti-inflammatory properties by reducing the capacity of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, IL-1ra and TNFα. Considering the close association between chronic inflammation and cancer development, RSV's immunomodulatory properties are one way by which the polyphenol may inhibit cancer initiation, proliferation, neovascularization, and migration. Resveratrol influences the generation of microtumor environment which is one of the key factors in cancer progress.
