Am J Obstet Gynecol

March 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Institute of Obstetrical and Gynecological Imaging, Sheba Medical Center, Ramat Gan, Israel; Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: Prenatal diagnosis of cleft palate is challenging. Numerous 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional methods have been proposed to assess the integrity of the fetal palate, yet detection rates remain relatively low. We propose the "Hard Palate Sweep," a novel 2-dimensional method that enables clear demonstration of the entire fetal palate throughout pregnancy, in a single sweep, avoiding acoustic shadows cast by surrounding bones.

Loss of Dicer in Newborn Melanocytes Leads to Premature Hair Graying and Changes in Integrin Expression.

J Invest Dermatol

March 2024

INSERM U1021, Normal and Pathological Development of Melanocytes, Institut Curie, PSL Research University, Orsay, France; Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) UMR 3347, Univ Paris-Sud, Univ Paris-Saclay, Orsay, France. Electronic address:

Premature hair graying occurs owing to the depletion of melanocyte stem cells in the hair follicle, which can be accelerated by stress caused by genetic or environmental factors. However, the connection between stress and melanocyte stem cell loss is not fully understood. MicroRNAs are molecules that control gene expression by regulating mRNA stability and translation and are produced by the enzyme Dicer, which is repressed under stress.

Purpose: Iris pigment deficiency in patients with oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) often causes debilitating photophobia, which is routinely managed by sequential intracapsular insertion of two aniridia rings. A common concern of this technique is the risk of segment interdigitation, which can lead to intraoperative complications.

Observations: In this report, we describe a modified technique through which both rings were stacked together and inserted simultaneously in a 62-year-old male patient with oculocutaneous albinism and a mild cataract.
