We report a case of severe symptomatic hypercalcemia that resolved after a short course of therapy of exclusively fluids and furosemide. An extensive workup for metabolic, neoplastic, and drug-induced causes did not provide a possible etiology of the hypercalcemia. After calcium level returned to baseline, the patient was discharged, only to return a week later with multiple embolic strokes of unknown source.

Aims: Endotoxemia commonly occurs in severe and fatal COVID-19, suggesting that concomitant bacterial stimuli may amplify the innate immune response induced by SARS-CoV-2. We previously demonstrated that the endogenous glucagon like peptide 1 (GLP-1) system in conjunction with increased procalcitonin (PCT) is hyperactivated in patients with severe Gram-negative sepsis and modulated by type 2 diabetes (T2D). The association of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and graft-versus-leukemia effect after stem-cell transplantation (SCT) is well established but with limited data in the setting of haploidentical SCT (haploSCT) with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy). We used a series of landmark analyses to investigate this association in 805 AML patients following haploSCT. On day +100, 707 patients were alive and leukemia-free, 500 had no prior acute GVHD, 137 had acute GVHD grade II and 70 had grade III-IV.

Background And Aims: Glucagon Like Peptide-1 Receptor (GLP-1R) activation reduces pro-inflammatory responses of human monocytes, their accumulation in the vascular wall and foam cell formation inhibiting atherosclerogenesis. This suggests that reduction of circulating GLP-1-1R positive monocytes may have pro-atherogenic effects. It is unknown whether different CD14/CD16 monocytes subsets display GLP-1R and whether their relative proportions correlate with atherosclerosis severity.

Objective: Current dopamine-blocking antipsychotic drugs have little impact on the cognitive deficits associated with schizophrenia. We evaluated whether MIN-101, a molecule that combines sigma-2 antagonism and 5-HT2A antagonism, might improve cognitive deficits in individuals with moderate to severe negative symptoms in schizophrenia.
Methods: Individuals (N = 244) aged 18 to 60 years with stable symptoms of DSM-5-defined schizophrenia and moderate to severe negative symptoms were randomized to placebo (n = 83), MIN-101 32 mg (n = 78), or MIN-101 64 mg (n = 83) in a 12-week, phase 2b, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial between May 2015 and December 2015.

Background: High levels of circulating GLP-1 are associated with severity of sepsis in critically ill nondiabetic patients. Whether patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) display different activation of the endogenous GLP-1 system during sepsis and whether it is affected by diabetes-related metabolic parameters are not known.
Methods: Serum levels of GLP-1 (total and active forms) and its inhibitor enzyme sDPP-4 were determined by ELISA on admission and after 2 to 4 days in 37 sepsis patients with (n = 13) and without T2D (n = 24) and compared to normal healthy controls (n = 25).
