Objective: The biological basis of abdominal obesity leading to more severe outcomes in patients with normal body mass index (BMI) on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) is unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the properties of abdominal obesity in different BMI categories of patients on MHD.
Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of 188 MHD patients (52.
Background Patients who have had an acute coronary syndrome ( ACS ) are at increased risk of recurrent cardiovascular events; however, paradoxically, high-risk patients who may derive the greatest benefit from guideline-recommended therapies are often undertreated. The aim of our study was to examine the management, clinical outcomes, and temporal trends of patients after ACS stratified by the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) risk score for secondary prevention, a recently validated clinical tool that incorporates 9 clinical risk factors. Methods and Results Included were patients with ACS enrolled in the biennial Acute Coronary Syndrome Israeli Surveys ( ACSIS ) between 2008 and 2016.

Uveal melanoma, the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults, is potentially a lethal tumour. Since the development of local radiotherapy, tumour control is achieved in the majority of cases and most eyes are salvaged. Despite this, more than 50% of patients develop distant metastatic spread, mainly to the liver, and in the absence of efficient treatments to extend life, die soon after.

Objectives: The use of sonography-based Automated Volume Count (SonoAVC; GE Healthcare, Kretz, Zipf, Austria) leads to substantially lower intraobserver and interobserver variability with a considerable advantage in time gain for both the physician and patient. It offers the possibility of continuous training and standardization of follicular monitoring. Manual and automated follicular measurements during in vitro fertilization (IVF) are reported to be comparable during gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist treatment.

More than a decade has elapsed since the first international guidelines on the diagnosis and management of pericardial diseases were issued by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) in 2004. Since then, significant advances have been made in this field due to several randomized double blinded controlled trials and also retrospective, as well as prospective, cohort studies that were conducted during this time frame. However, despite the amount of knowledge that has been accumulated, only Spanish and Brazilian national societies of cardiology have so far published national guidelines on the management of pericardial diseases.

Objective: Performance of noninvasive prenatal screening (NIPS) methodologies when applied to low fetal fraction samples is not well established. The single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) method fails samples below a predetermined fetal fraction threshold, whereas some laboratories employing the whole-genome sequencing (WGS) method report aneuploidy calls for all samples. Here, the performance of the two methods was compared to determine which approach actually detects more fetal aneuploidies.
