Pulmonary Hypertension Is Associated With Systemic Arterial Hypertension Among Patients With Normal Left Ventricular Diastolic Function.

Background The association of pulmonary and systemic arterial hypertension is believed to be mediated through hypertensive left heart disease. The purpose of the current study was to investigate whether pulmonary hypertension (PHT) is associated with systemic arterial hypertension among patients with apparently normal left ventricular diastolic function. Methods and Results Consecutive patients who had echocardiographic evaluation between 2007 and 2019 were enrolled.

Syncope and undifferentiated shock.

Ventricular free wall rupture is a rare post myocardial complication with a high associated mortality. In this article we discuss the case of an elderly patient who presented to our emergency department in shock after an episode of syncope. Using Point Of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), identification of cardiac tamponade and pericardial thrombus was possible, signs indicating a diagnosis of free wall rupture.

[HEMOGLOBIN A1C AND MORTALITY FROM COVID-19].

Introduction: People with diabetes mellitus are at increased risk of developing a more severe disease or death when contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 ) but the effect of pre-COVID-19 infection glycemic control on disease outcomes is still unclear. In a previous study that we published from Leumit Health Services (LHS) including 183 patients with diabetes, pre-COVID-19 infection HbA1c>9% was associated with the need for hospitalization during the disease. In the current study we present the clinical characteristics of patients who died from COVID-19 in LHS and demonstrate a significant link to pre-infection HbA1c.

Restless legs syndrome in people with multiple sclerosis: An updated systematic review and meta-analyses.

Background: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sensory-motor disorder characterized by an uncomfortable sensation felt in the lower extremity. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analyses was (i) to provide updated information on the prevalence and clinical characteristics of RLS amongst people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) and (ii) clarify RLS-related factors in PwMS.

Methods: MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus, and EMBASE were searched from their inception through April 2021 for the following keywords: 'restless legs syndrome' or 'RLS' and 'multiple sclerosis' or 'MS'.

Burden of comorbid anxiety and depression in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: a systematic literature review.

Introduction: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, often have comorbid anxiety and depression that affects their quality of life (QoL) and management of their IBD.

Areas Covered: A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to identify articles and conference abstracts on comorbid anxiety and depression in IBD patients using MEDLINE® and Embase® (January 2003 - June 2018). The impact of these psychological comorbidities on QoL and economic burden was examined.

Auto Strut: a novel smart robotic system for external fixation device for bone deformity correction, a preliminary experience.

Purpose: Several hexapod external fixators are used in the treatment of bone fracture and deformity corrections. Objective: About one-third of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) suffers from chronic and excruciating central neuropathic pain (CNP). Introduction: Few studies have explored whether gait measured continuously within a community setting can identify individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study tests the feasibility of this method to identify individuals at the earliest stage of AD.

Methods: Mild AD (n = 38) and cognitively normal control (CNC; n = 48) participants from the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Center Registry wore a GT3x+ accelerometer continuously for 7 days to assess gait.

Previously, we identified a Chlamydia trachomatis lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) recombinant strain possessing a non-LGV ompA genotype. Here, culture-independent genome sequencing confirms its circulation in Europe, Middle East, and North America, and unveils emergence of antibiotic resistance. Broad surveillance is needed.

Mortality Among Neutropenic Cancer Patients Within the United States: The Association With Hospital Volume.

Purpose: Neutropenia is a serious complication of chemotherapy in patients with solid tumors. The influence of hospital volume on outcomes in patients with neutropenia has been little investigated. We hypothesized that large-volume hospitals would have reduced mortality rates for neutropenic patients compared with small-volume institutions.
