Electronic address:

Extracting molecular level label-free information from complex biological processes for a range of purposes including disease diagnosis and microbial identification and discrimination is always a challenging task. This is mostly due to lack of a technique providing rich molecular information with a high spatial and temporal resolution properties. Two surface-enhanced vibrational spectroscopic (SEVS) techniques, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS), are recently attracting considerable attention to study biosystems at an interface since they can satisfy these requirements to a certain level by providing rich intrinsic molecular information from molecules and molecular systems in a close proximity of nanostructured noble metal surfaces.

Quantum dots (QDs) are significant fluorescent materials for energy transfer studies with phthalocyanines (Pcs) and phthalocyanine (Pc)-like biomolecules (such as chlorophylls). Carbon-based QDs, especially, have been used in numerous studies concerning energy transfer with chlorophylls, but the numbers of studies concerning energy transfer between phthalocyanines and carbon-based QDs are limited. In this study, peripherally, hydroxythioethyl terminal group substituted metal-free phthalocyanine (H Pc) and zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) were noncovalently (electrostatic and/or π-π interaction) attached to carbon QDs containing boron and nitrogen to form QD-Pc nanoconjugates.

As a multifactorial disease, treatment of cancer depends on understanding unique mechanisms involved in its progression. The cancer stem cells (CSCs) are responsible for tumor stemness and by enhancing colony formation, proliferation as well as metastasis, and these cells can also mediate resistance to therapy. Furthermore, the presence of CSCs leads to cancer recurrence and therefore their complete eradication can have immense therapeutic benefits.

Electronic address:

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is a drug efflux transporter that triggers doxorubicin (DOX) resistance. In this review, we highlight the molecular avenues regulating P-gp, such as Nrf2, HIF-1α, miRNAs, and long noncoding (lnc)RNAs, to reveal their participation in DOX resistance. These antitumor compounds and genetic tools synergistically reduce P-gp expression.

Long noncoding RNAs: A novel insight in the leukemogenesis and drug resistance in acute myeloid leukemia.

J Cell Physiol

January 2022

Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem cell Research (AIMMSCR), Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a common hematological disorder with heterogeneous nature that resulted from blocked myeloid differentiation and an enhanced number of immature myeloid progenitors. During several decades, different factors, including cytogenetic, genetic, and epigenetic have been reported to contribute to the pathogenesis of AML by inhibiting the differentiation and ensuring the proliferation of myeloid blast cells. Recently, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been considered as potential diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic factors in different human malignancies including AML.

An important motivation for the use of nanomaterials and nanoarchitectures in cancer therapy emanates from the widespread emergence of drug resistance. Although doxorubicin (DOX) induces cell cycle arrest and DNA damage by suppressing topoisomerase activity, resistance to DOX has severely restricted its anti-cancer potential. Hyaluronic acid (HA) has been extensively utilized for synthesizing nanoparticles as it interacts with CD44 expressed on the surface of cancer cells.

Spectroscopic investigation of defect-state emission in CdSe quantum dots.

Turk J Chem

June 2021

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Arts and Science, İstanbul Technical University, İstanbul Turkey.

CdSe quantum dots are the most studied Cd-based quantum dots with their high quantum yield, high photostability, narrow emission band, and easy synthesis procedure. They are frequently used to develop light emitting diode (LED) due to their unique photophysical properties; however, their narrow emission band causes a challenge to design white LEDs because white light emission requires emission in multiple wavelengths with broad emission bands. Here in this study, we developed CdSe quantum dots with a narrow band-edge emission band and broad defect-state emission band through a modified two-phase synthesis method.
