Macrophages are among the most important components of the innate immune system where the interaction of pathogens and their phagocytosis occur as the first barrier of immunity. When nanomaterials interact with the human body, they have to face macrophages as well. Thus, understanding of nanomaterials-macrophage interactions and underlying mechanisms is crucial.

In this study, flexible symmetric microsupercapacitors (MSCs) that could operate in a wide working voltage window were developed by combining laser-direct-writing graphene (LG) electrodes with a phosphoric acid-nonionic surfactant liquid crystal (PA-NI LC) gel electrolyte. To increase the flexibility and enhance the conformal ability of the MSC devices to anisotropic surfaces, after the interdigitated LG formed on the polyimide (PI) film surface, the devices were further transferred onto a flexible, stretchable and transparent polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate; this substrate displayed favorable flexibility and mechanical characteristics in the bending test.

Microvascular surgery plays a crucial role in reconnecting micrometer-scale vessel ends. Suturing remains the gold standard technique for small vessels; however, suturing the collapsed lumen of microvessels is challenging and time-consuming, with the risk of misplaced sutures leading to failure. Although multiple solutions have been reported, the emphasis has predominantly been on resolving challenges related to arteries rather than veins, and none has proven superior.

Over the past decade, MXenes, a novel class of advanced 2D nanomaterials, have manifested as a prominent electrode material with diverse applications. Their unique layered structures, negative zeta potential, charge carrier mobility, mechanical properties, adjustable bandgap, hydrophilicity, metallic nature, and surface chemistry collectively contribute to the abundance of active redox sites on the surface and a reduction in the ion diffusion pathway. Despite such promising attributes of MXene, challenges like aggregation and restacking reduce the accessibility of active surface sites for electrolyte ions.

To improve the translational and clinical applications of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in medicine there is a need for better understanding of physicochemical properties of the nanoparticles in relation to the systemic parameters andperformance. This review presents the influence of physicochemical properties (surface charges and size) and route of administration on the biodistribution of GNPs. The role of protein corona (PC) (a unique biological identifier) as a barrier to biodistribution of GNPs, and the advances in engineered GNPs towards improving biodistribution are presented.

Imbalances in hemoglobin (Hb) levels can lead to conditions such as anemia or polycythemia, emphasizing the importance of precise Hb extraction from blood. To address this, a novel synthetic imprinted polymer was meticulously developed for capturing and separating Hb. Poly(acrylamide-vinylimidazole) nanopolymer (poly(AAm-VIM)) was synthesized using acrylamide and vinyl imidazole as functional monomers through surfactant-free emulsion polymerization.

GATA is one of the prominent transcription factor families conserved among many organisms in eukaryotes and has different biological roles in many pathways, particularly in light regulation in plants. Although GATA transcription factors (TFs) have been identified in different crop species, their roles in abiotic stress tolerance have not been studied in potato. In this study, we identified 32 GATA TFs in potato () by in silico analyses, and expression levels of selected six genes were investigated in drought-tolerant (Sante) and sensitive (Agria) cultivars under light, drought, and combined (light + drought) stress conditions.

Hyperspectral imaging is a remote sensing technique that enables remote, noninvasive measurement of plant traits. Here, we outline the procedures for camera setup, scanning, and calibration, along with the acquisition of black and white reference materials, which are the key steps in collecting hyperspectral imagery. We also discuss the development of predictive models such as partial least-squares regression, using both large and small datasets, which are used to predict plant traits from hyperspectral data.

Bombarding WS multilayered nanoparticles and nanotubes with focused ion beams of Ga ions at high doses, larger than 10 cm, leads to drastic structural changes and melting of the material. At lower doses, when the damage is negligible or significantly smaller, the amount of implanted Ga is very small. A substantial increase in the amount of implanted Ga, and not appreciable structural damage, are observed in nanoparticles previously hydrogenated by a radio-frequency activated hydrogen plasma.

Composite materials containing pores play a crucial role in the field of bone tissue engineering. The nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) technique, commonly used for manufacturing membranes, has proven to be an effective method for fabricating composite scaffolds with tunable porosity. To explore this potential, we produced 10% (w/v) poly(caprolactone) (PCL)-nanohydroxyapatite (HA) composite porous film scaffolds with varying HA contents (0/10/15/20 wt %) and two thicknesses (corresponding to 1 and 2 mL of solution resulting in 800-900 and 1600-1800 μm thickness, respectively) using the NIPS method.
