Objectives: Bone density, surgical protocol, and implant design are the major determinants of primary stability. The goal of this animal trial was to investigate potential correlations of intraoperative bone density testing with clinical and histologic parameters of primary implant stability.
Material And Methods: Following extractions of all mandibular premolars and subsequent healing, four implants each were placed in a total of four minipigs.

Proper identification of the Vaterian papilla is a vital prerequisite for success in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Overall, a "" situation is uncommon, often attributable to, for example, intradiverticular localizations in a setting of periampullary diverticulum. Stacked duodenal folds precluding proper endoscopic visualization of the papilla is less well discussed, with virtually no systematic data available.

Thrombosis and bacterial infection are major problems in cardiovascular implants. Here we demonstrated that a superhydrophobic surface composed of poly(bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene) (PTFEP)-AlO hybrid nanowires (NWs) is effective to reduce both platelet adhesion/activation and bacterial adherence/colonization. The proposed approach allows surface modification of cardiovascular implants which have 3D complex geometries.

Objective: Comorbid NAFLD is increasingly being diagnosed in patients with diabetes and nondiabetic endocrinopathies. The aim of this study was to assess hepatic steatosis noninvasively by transient elastography in patients with acromegaly.
Design: A cross-sectional study including 22 patients with acromegaly.

Background: Pediatrics are often regarded as a "victim" of the German Diagnosis related Groups (G-DRG) system because the economic situation of many pediatric hospitals has deteriorated since the introduction of the G-DRG system in 2004. This is often attributed to an insufficient case mix of pediatric diagnoses. It is unknown if revenues are lost due to an insufficient qualification of coding staff.

Right-sided diverticulitis is uncommon in Western populations with few to zero reports on endoscopic correlations. Although ultrasound or imaging studies typically detect advanced forms to be differentiated from acute appendicitis and/or Crohn's disease, in more subtle presentations with an indication of urgent ileocolonoscopy, endoscopy may reliably establish an unequivocal diagnosis.

Endoscopic shielding is an innovative concept in therapeutic endoscopy. Its usage has been mostly restricted to wide-field endoscopic mucosal resection and/or endoscopic submucosal dissection. A novel potential clinical use may be in bleeding pophylaxis for argon plasma coagulation-related ulcers under concomitant mandatory dual antiplatelet therapy.

The German PID-NET registry was founded in 2009, serving as the first national registry of patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PID) in Germany. It is part of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) registry. The primary purpose of the registry is to gather data on the epidemiology, diagnostic delay, diagnosis, and treatment of PIDs.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small and heterogeneous membrane-bound structures released by cells and found in all biological fluids. They are effective intercellular communicators, acting on a number of close and/or distant target cells. EV cargo may reflect the cell of origin as well as the specific stress that induces their formation and release.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) tumors are a rare, though typical cause for upper GI bleeding. Excavated ulcerated lesions are common; however, a clear-cut visualization of the tumor surface ("") itself has not yet been reported. In line, careful biopsy taking streamlines the diagnostic work-up by providing pathologic diagnosis.

Background And Aims: The new direct-acting antiviral agents (DAA) have revolutionized the treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. This study investigates to which extent DAA affect fatigue and mood and, if so, whether this results from changes to tryptophan (TRP) metabolism, as reflected by two critical biosynthetic pathways, serotonin (SRT) generation from TRP and TRP degradation through kynurenines (KYN) via indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO).
Methods: This study assessed 24 patients with chronic HCV infection, before (T1), during (T2: at 4 weeks) and 12 weeks post-treatment with DAA (T3) with respect to viral load, fatigue and depressive symptoms (BDI-II questionnaire), physical activity (actigraph) and plasma serotonin-tryptophan metabolites (LC/MS).

Benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis (BRIC) is a peculiar familial disease caused by mutations of the genes encoding hepatocanalicular flippase for phosphatidylserine (ATP8B1; BRIC type 1) or the bile salt export pump (ABCB11; BRIC type 2). Here, we report on a patient with nasobiliary drainage-refractory BRIC type 2 who improved under plasma separation and anion absorption therapy. We also suggest that nasobiliary drainage might be an ineffective approach in carriers of severe loss-of-function mutations of the bile salt export pump ABCB11.
