Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) have an overall poor prognosis, especially in locally advanced and metastatic stages. In most cases, multimodal therapeutic approaches are required and show only limited cure rates with a high risk of tumor recurrence. The aim of this study was to evaluate patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) for the potential reperfusion of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) treated by catheter embolization using coils or embolization plugs and to analyze causes of possible reperfusion in order to further improve treatment. This retrospective study analyzed the data of 345 patients who underwent screening for pulmonary arteriovenous malformations in cases of suspected or confirmed HHT (Osler's disease). Of these, 118 patients with PAVM that underwent catheter embolization and had at least one follow-up study were included in our study and evaluated for potential reperfusion.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening medical condition caused by the thrombotic occlusion of one or more branches of the lung vasculature, which represents the third most common cause of cardiovascular mortality after myocardial infarction and stroke. PE treatment requires a tailored approach based on accurate risk stratification and personalized treatment decision-making. Anticoagulation is the cornerstone of PE management, yet patients at higher clinical risk may require more rapid reperfusion therapies.

The lack of a sufficient number of validated miRNA targets severely hampers the understanding of their biological function. Even for the well-studied miR-155-5p, there are only 239 experimentally validated targets out of 42,554 predicted targets. For a more complete assessment of the immune-related miR-155 targetome, we used an inverse correlation of time-resolved mRNA profiles and miR-155-5p expression of early CD4+ T cell activation to predict immune-related target genes.

Accurate diagnosis and monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases require reliable biomarkers. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins are promising candidates for reflecting brain pathology; however, their diagnostic utility may be compromised by natural variability between individuals, weakening their association with disease. Here, we measured the levels of 69 pre-selected proteins in cerebrospinal fluid using antibody-based suspension bead array technology in a multi-disease cohort of 499 individuals with neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease (AD), behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia, primary progressive aphasias, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), corticobasal syndrome, primary supranuclear palsy, along with healthy controls.

This study sought to identify challenges to the diagnosis, treatment and management of people living with MASLD and MASH and understand the key barriers to adopting relevant clinical guidelines.
Methods: A real-world, cross-sectional study (BARRIERS-MASLD) consisting of a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews of physicians in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom was conducted from March to September 2023.

We aimed to assess the global burden of primary liver cancer attributable to metabolic risk factors, including high body mass index (BMI) and high fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels, between 1990 and 2021.
Methods: The total number and age-standardized rates of deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) from primary liver cancer attributable to each metabolic risk factor were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 1990-2021.

Within the current perspective, we focused our attention on the third enzyme in this pathway, IspD, offering a comprehensive summary of the reported modes of inhibition and common trends, with the goal to inspire future research dedicated to this underexplored target.

Photocrosslinkable formulations based on the radical thiol-ene reaction are considered better alternatives than methacrylated counterparts for light-based fabrication processes. This study quantifies differences between thiol-ene and methacrylated crosslinked hydrogels in terms of precursors stability, the control of the crosslinking process, and the resolution of printed features particularized for hyaluronic acid (HA) inks at concentrations relevant for bioprinting. First, the synthesis of HA functionalized with norbornene, allyl ether, or methacrylate groups with the same molecular weight and comparable degrees of functionalization is presented.
