Background: Early interventions for young children with autism have been shown to enhance developmental outcomes. However, opportunities for targeted interventions in autism, both in care and preschool, are often lacking, particularly in immigrant communities. The early start denver model (ESDM) stands as one of the most well-established intervention models, including improvement in core developmental domains and reduction of maladaptive behaviours, also delivered in preschool settings.

In the head and neck cancer (HNC) population around 45% suffer from chronic swallowing difficulties after cancer treatment. Previously a measure for flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) where swallowing efficiency, safety and overall ability is evaluated within the same framework has been lacking. The Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity for FEES (DIGEST-FEES) was developed in 2021 and provides such a measure for patients with HNC.

Bacterial contamination and greenhouse gas emissions: A randomised study of reuse versus single-use of infusion-set components for intravenous anaesthesia.

Background: Reusing anaesthesia infusion-set components may reduce the climate impact from plastic waste and discarded medications. Infusion-set contents can be shielded from patient contact by single use of an infusion line fitted with dual antireflux valves, preventing retrograde entry of microorganisms, and eliminating the risk for patient-to-patient cross-contamination. However, infusion-set contamination from compromised aseptic handling could affect quality of care.

Preventing radiation-induced dysphagia and trismus in head and neck cancer-A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Radiation-induced dysphagia and restricted mouth opening are common problems among patients with head and neck cancer. The aim of the present randomized controlled trial was to determine if an exercise protocol could prevent swallowing and mouth opening impairment.

Methods: Eighty-nine participants were randomly assigned to either an active group performing preventive swallowing and mouth opening exercises (n = 45) or to a control group (n = 44).

Background: Alterations in body weight and composition are common in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and are independent predictors for morbidity and mortality. Low vitamin D status is also more prevalent in patients with COPD compared to controls and has been related to lower lung function, muscle atrophy and impaired musculoskeletal function. This study aimed to evaluate the association between vitamin D levels and status with body composition (BC), as well as with its changes over time.

Background: Several studies have analyzed the effect of anticoagulants on cancer survival, with varying results. This study aimed to assess the effect of warfarin on survival in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) in relation to timing of warfarin initiation.

Methods: Data on 10,051 individuals aged ≥45 years in the Västra Götaland Region of Sweden, and diagnosed with CRC between 2000 and 2009, were obtained from the Swedish National Cancer Register.

Mechanisms maintaining right ventricular contractility-to-pulmonary arterial elastance ratio in VA ECMO: a retrospective animal data analysis of RV-PA coupling.

Background: To optimize right ventricular-pulmonary coupling during veno-arterial (VA) ECMO weaning, inotropes, vasopressors and/or vasodilators are used to change right ventricular (RV) function (contractility) and pulmonary artery (PA) elastance (afterload). RV-PA coupling is the ratio between right ventricular contractility and pulmonary vascular elastance and as such, is a measure of optimized crosstalk between ventricle and vasculature. Little is known about the physiology of RV-PA coupling during VA ECMO.

Leaders' experiences of successfully implementing health and welfare technology in sparsely populated Nordic areas.

Purpose: This study examines the effective implementation of health and welfare technology (HWT) in sparsely populated Nordic regions within healthcare and social care settings.

Materials And Methods: Through re-analysing 12 semi-structured interviews conducted in 2020 across three successfully implementing Nordic regions, the research utilised inductive thematic analysis with a reflexive approach to uncover key experiences.

Results: It identifies five critical success factors: Positive attitudes towards and understanding of digital transformation, Consensus on changing care delivery through HWT, Leadership and organisational readiness for change, Effective feedback mechanisms, and Trust and engagement in the learning process.

Objective verification of audibility in bone conduction devices.

Objective: To objectively measure audibility in patients wearing bone conduction devices (BCDs) with a new approach using a skin microphone at the patient's forehead.

Design: The skin microphone was attached by a softband and shielded by an earmuff. This set-up was confirmed not to be influenced by neither noise floor nor sound bypassing the BCD.

Adherence to anti-seizure medications in the Swedish Prospective Regional Epilepsy Database and Biobank for Individualized Clinical Treatment (PREDICT).

The aim of this study was to describe the extent of, and risk factors for, non-adherence to anti-seizure medications (ASMs) in adult people with epilepsy (PWE) in Sweden. A cross-sectional multi-centre study was performed of PWEs in western Sweden, with data from medical records, and a questionnaire filled in by the participants including self-reports on how often ASM doses had been forgotten during the past year. Participants were categorized into if they forgot at 0-1 occasion, and if they forgot at 2-10 or >10 occasions.

Prevalence and nature of patient-reported antiseizure medication side effects in a Swedish regional multi-center study.

Purpose: Side effects is one of the major clinical problems in epilepsy care. We assessed the prevalence of ASM side effects in participants in a large regional multicenter observational study in western Sweden and aimed to identify risk factors and inventory the nature of side effects with different ASM regimes.

Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of survey answers and clinical characteristics of 406 adult participants recruited to a regional observational study between December 2020 and March 2023.

Extracorporeal therapy significantly influences cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, highlighting the necessity for clinicians to understand these interactions for improved patient care. Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (veno-arterial ECMO) unloads the right ventricle and increases left ventricular (LV) afterload, potentially exacerbating LV failure and pulmonary edema.

Heart-lung interactions occur due to the mechanical influence of intrathoracic pressure and lung volume changes on cardiac and circulatory function. These interactions manifest as respiratory fluctuations in venous, pulmonary, and arterial pressures, potentially affecting stroke volume. In the context of functional hemodynamic monitoring, pulse or stroke volume variation (pulse pressure variation or stroke volume variability) are commonly employed to assess volume or preload responsiveness.

Long-Term Follow Up of Sexual Function and Steroid Levels in Women after Perimenopausal Hysterectomy with or without Concomitant Oophorectomy.

Hysterectomy, most often performed because of bleeding disorders or uterine leiomyoma, is one of the most common major surgical procedures in women and is usually performed during the perimenopausal period on ages 45-55 years. Hysterectomy may be combined with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, as a risk-reducing procedure to minimize the risk of ovarian cancer. An open question is whether concomitant oophorectomy, with cessation of ovarian androgen secretion, has any long-term effects on sexual function.

Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, other eating difficulties and compromised growth in 72 children: background and associated factors.

This is a study of avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), other feeding disorders, and background factors, including seventy-two children (thirty-one girls, forty-one boys, aged 4-178 months) referred to a secondary/tertiary feeding service for eating difficulties and/or compromised growth. An in-depth review of their medical records was performed. Diagnostic criteria for ARFID were met in 26% of cases.

Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus and Alzheimer's disease.

This study aims to evaluate the ability of the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), to separate the early stages of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) from Alzheimer's disease (AD), both in comparison to each other and to healthy individuals (HI). The RAVLT performance regarding learning, recall and recognition, was analyzed in three matched samples comprising 30 HI, 84 participants with AD and 84 with iNPH. The clinical samples were divided into two subgroups based on scores on the MMSE, High performers (27-30 points, n = 30) and Medium performers (18-26 points, n = 54).

The SNABB ADHD treatment scale-An easy-to-use scale on treatment monitoring in childhood ADHD: A pilot study.

Introduction: Information from parents and teachers are essential in the treatment monitoring of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Rating scales are infrequently used in the treatment monitoring, and clinicians are signalling logistic barriers in the administration of rating scales in clinical settings. Here, we aimed to try out a new easy-to-use scale to facilitate information sharing between parents, teachers, and medical staff, in the treatment of childhood ADHD.
