We sought to conduct a systematic review of the literature and a meta-analysis of post-operative outcomes following TKA with an all-polyethylene tibial (APT) or a metal-backed tibial component (MBT). A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify all studies comparing APT and MBT for TKA based upon rates of complications, revisions, reoperation, and patient-reported outcomes. Data was pooled and relative risk of each outcome measure at short (< 5 year), mid (5-10 year), and long (> 10 year) follow-up was calculated.

Most physicians appreciate that practicing medicine is a commitment to continuous learning. However, "learning" can be mistakenly understood as simply the acquisition of facts and new knowledge. But learning also necessitates the constant re-examination and challenging of one's existing body of knowledge, as misinformation persists when one's beliefs are not challenged or questioned in the light of new information.

Background: Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) has been used for over 50 years to treat chronic pain by delivering electrical pulses through small electrodes placed near targeted peripheral nerves those outside the brain and spinal cord. Early PNS systems often required invasive neurosurgical procedures. However, since 2015, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved percutaneously implanted PNS leads and neurostimulators offering a much less invasive, non-opioid option for managing recalcitrant chronic pain.

Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) are an important threat to the health of solid organ transplant recipients (SOTr); data comparing outcomes of SOTr with CRE to non-SOTr with CRE are lacking. A matched cohort study was performed within 2 prospective, multicenter, cohort studies (Consortium on Resistance Against Carbapenems in Klebsiella and other Enterobacterales and Consortium on Resistance Against Carbapenems in Klebsiella and other Enterobacterales 2). The epidemiology, desirability of outcome rankings outcomes, and mortality of SOTr and non-SOTr hospitalized in the United States (December 2011-August 2017) with clinical isolates with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-defined CRE were compared.

For example, in the Women's Interagency HIV Study, it is of interest to understand the effects of incarceration on the number of sexual partners and the number of cigarettes smoked after incarceration. In settings like this where the outcome is a count, the estimand is often the causal mean ratio, i.

Liver fibrosis is the pathological deposition of extracellular matrix rich in fibrillar collagen within the hepatocytes in response to chronic liver injury due to various causes. As the condition advances, it can progress to cirrhosis, the late stages of which are irreversible. Multiple pathophysiological mechanisms and cell types are responsible for the progression of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Optimal treatment of locally advanced cancer of the larynx is controversial. In this study, we aim to compare outcomes in patients with T3-4N0-1 cancer of the larynx who underwent surgery alone versus surgery followed by radiation therapy (RT). A total of 1820 patients with advanced laryngeal cancer were identified from the national Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Database and stratified based on postoperative RT status, and clinical outcomes were compared between these 2 groups.

Background: Psychosis symptom assessment instruments are rarely used in US mental health community clinical practice despite the advantages of measurement-based care. Barriers include the length of typical scales and that data for scale evaluation often come from researcher and not clinician raters.
Study Design: The 12-item COMPASS symptom assessment was designed for the RAISE-ETP study of early phase psychosis.

Trauma is very common and associated with significant co-morbidity world-wide, particularly PTSD and frequently other mental health disorders. However, it can be challenging to identify victims of abuse as self-reports can be difficult to elicit due to emotional distress. Better confirmation of a history of significant mistreatment can assist significantly in treatment planning.

This is a case of a young male patient with no known prior risk factors who presented for acute-onset right-sided neurological deficits suspicious for stroke, and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) identified the development of an occlusion at the level of a basilar artery (BA) fenestration in the setting of right vertebral artery occlusion. The patient was treated with dual-antiplatelet therapy in the hospital and was able to return to work shortly after discharge. The case provides insights into several possibilities for the clinical significance of BA fenestration and its potential causal or contributory relationship with ischaemic stroke of the brainstem.
