Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is associated with low back pain, yet its inherent mechanism remains obscure. Hypercholesteremia was regarded as a risk factor for IDD, and our previous study showed that cholesterol accumulation could elicit matrix degradation in the nucleus pulposus (NP). MicroRNA-155 (miR-155) was substantiated as protective in IDD, but its role in cholesterol-induced IDD was unclear.

Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease, with pathological characteristics of bone erosion, inflammation of attachment point, and bone ankylosis. Due to the ossified intervertebral disc and ligament, pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) is one of the mainstream surgeries of AS-related thoracolumbar kyphosis, but the large amount of blood loss and high risk of instrumental instability limit its clinical application. The purpose of our study is to propose a new transpedicular vertebral body compression osteotomy (VBCO) in PSO to reduce blood loss and improve stability.

Aberrant SUMOylation contributes to the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), yet the molecular mechanisms have not been well elucidated. RING-type E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF146 is a key regulator of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which is frequently hyperactivated in HCC. Here, it is identified that RNF146 can be modified by SUMO3.

Curcumin (CUR) has been discovered to have many biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-oxygenation, anti-human immunodeficiency virus, anti-microbial and exhibits a good effect on the prevention and treatment of many diseases. However, the limited properties of CUR, including the poor solubility, bioavailability and instability caused by enzymes, light, metal irons, and oxygen, have compelled researchers to turn their attention to drug carrier application to overcome these drawbacks. Encapsulation may provide potential protective effects to the embedding materials and/or have a synergistic effect with them.

Dimeric pyruvate kinase (PK) M2 (PKM2) plays an important role in promoting the accumulation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α, mediating aberrant glycolysis and inducing fibrosis in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The aim of this work was to dissect a novel regulatory mechanism of Yin and Yang 1 (YY1) on lncRNA-ARAP1-AS2/ARAP1 to regulate EGFR/PKM2/HIF-1α pathway and glycolysis in DKD. We used adeno-associated virus (AAV)-ARAP1 shRNA to knocked down ARAP1 in diabetic mice and overexpressed or knocked down YY1, ARAP1-AS2 and ARAP1 expression in human glomerular mesangial cells.
