Behcet's disease (BD) is a chronic multi-systemic disease characterized by relapsing-remitting oral ulcers, genital ulcers, ocular inflammatory involvements, and numerous other systemic features. Ocular involvements are quite common in BD and may cause severe tissue damage and potentially blindness. Even though the pathogenesis of BD remains ambiguous, growing evidences have shown that genetic factors, environmental triggers and immunological abnormalities play significant roles in its development and progression.

Background: Isolated calf muscular vein thrombosis (ICMVT) can result in pulmonary embolism, but the treatment of ICMVT remains controversial. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the optimal treatment for the ICMVT by comparing the efficacy and safety of different treatments.
Methods: A network meta-analysis was conducted to search for studies published from database inception to April 30, 2022, that compared the outcomes of 2 or more treatments for ICMVT.

Background: This is the first real-world study to estimate the direct costs and indirect costs of first-ever ischaemic stroke with 1-year follow-up in China, based on a nationally representative sample.
Methods: Patients were chosen from 20 geographically diverse sites from the nationally representative database China National Stroke Registry-III (CNSR-III). The inclusion criteria were surviving patients who were hospitalised with first-ever ischaemic stroke from February 2017 to February 2018 (the index event); aged 18-80 during the index event; no history of other stroke types.

Background: Osteoporosis is a highly prevalent disease with distinct sex pattern. We aimed to estimate the sex specific incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life (DALYs) years of osteoporosis between 1990 and 2019, with additional predictions from 2020 to 2034.
Methods: We collected osteoporosis disease burden data from the Global Burden of Disease study covering the years 1990 through 2019 in 204 countries and territories.

Speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) derived longitudinal strain (LS) and noninvasive pressure-strain loop (PSL) derived myocardial work (MW) are more sensitive than conventional echocardiographic parameters in quantitative assessment of early myocardial dysfunction. The aim of this study was to assess left ventricular (LV) global and regional myocardial function in symptomatic chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) patients using the two promising methods. Transthoracic echocardiography was performed on patients with angina or equivalent symptoms before coronary angiography.

Purpose: Homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) plays a crucial role in ovarian cancer patients who are treated with Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPis). It could be defined as a prognosis biomarker. However, many high throughput sequencing methods for evaluating HRD, including HRDetect (WGS 10X), SigMA (WGS 40X or panel 1000X), and scarHRD (WGS 30X), are technically complex, time and data-storage consuming, and costly.

Tubulointerstitial abnormalities contribute to the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). However, the underlying mechanism of the pathobiology of tubulointerstitial disease is largely unknown. Here, we showed that MYCT1 expression was downregulated in and DKD models.

Background: Immune cell heterogenicity is known to determine the therapeutic response to cancer progression. Neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (NACI) has shown clinical benefits in some patients with advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), but the underlying mechanism behind this clinical response is unknown. The efficacy of NACI needs to be potentiated by identifying accurate biomarkers to predict clinical responses.

Background And Objective: Sedentary behavior is of increasing concern in older patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) due to its potential adverse effects on cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and motor function. While regular exercise has been shown to improve the health of individuals with T2DM, the most effective exercise program for elderly sedentary patients with T2DM remains unclear. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the impact of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT), and guideline-based physical activity programs on the cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and motor function of this specific population.

Background: Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, there remains uncertainty about the efficiency of GLP-1 RAs in patients with heart failure (HF).
Methods: Randomized placebo-controlled trials (RCTs) that reported the effect of GLP-1 RAs on prognosis in patients with HF were identified by searching databases.

Vascular calcification is the abnormal deposition of calcium phosphate complexes in blood vessels, which is regarded as the pathological basis of multiple cardiovascular diseases. The flowing blood exerts a frictional force called shear stress on the vascular wall. Blood vessels have different hydrodynamic properties due to discrepancies in geometric and mechanical properties.

Proper development of the limb bud relies on the concordance of various signals, but its molecular mechanisms have not yet been fully illustrated. Here we report that heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (hnRNPK) is essential for limb bud development. Its ablation in the limb bud results in limbless forelimbs and severe deformities of the hindlimbs.

Background: Intraoperative hypothermia is a common but severe condition that is defined as a core body temperature below 36 °C. Accidental hypothermia can produce coagulopathy, immunosuppression and peripheral hypoperfusion that can ultimately lead to life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias and vital organ injury, and it is significantly associated with perioperative complications and mortality.
Case Description: We report the case of an 82-year-old man who presented with persistent ventricular tachycardia intraoperatively due to accidental hypothermia.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of patients with ICMVT for anticoagulant therapy at different time points after primary hip and knee arthroplasty.
Methods: Patients with ICMVT after primary hip and knee arthroplasty were included in the study.

Objectives: Circular RNAs (circRNAs), with their multilevel and versatile regulation, have emerged as promising targets for treating complex and heterogeneous malignancies such as oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). It is crucial to explore the function of key circRNAs and elucidate the underlying mechanisms to establish an effective in vivo delivery system to better utilize circRNAs as cancer treatment strategies.
Materials And Methods: circRNA (circ-OCAC) was identified as significantly downregulated in tumor samples compared to paracancerous tissues by RNA-seq analysis of eight pairs of OSCC tissues.

Background: Deep fungal infection has become an important cause of infection and death in hospitalized patients, and this has worsened with increasing antifungal drug resistance.
Objective: A 3-year retrospective study was conducted to investigate the clinical characteristics, pathogen spectrum, and drug resistance of deep fungal infection in a regional hospital of Guangzhou, China.
Methods: Non-duplicate fungi isolates recovered from blood and other sterile body fluids of in-patients of the clinical department were identified using biochemical tests of pure culture with the API20C AUX and CHROMagar medium.
