Background: A shift in midline brain structure indicates raised intracranial pressure (ICP), thereby a sign of compromised perfusion to brain tissues or a mass effect. Early diagnosis can help in planning timely neurosurgical interventions that could prevent further neuron loss. Also, this may aid in neuroprognostication.

Background: Patients with idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) are predisposed to developing dementing disorders. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt implantation is a treatment used to improve the motor and cognitive disabilities of these patients; however, its effect on the risk of developing dementing disorders remains unclear. We conducted a population-based propensity-weighted cohort study to investigate whether CSF shunt surgery may reduce the risk of subsequently developing dementia, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and vascular dementia in iNPH patients.

Ascites and pleural effusion are recognized complications of pancreatic cancer. These diseases are accompanied by ascites and pleural effusion, and drug treatment is limited by high costs, long hospital stays, and failure rates. Immunotherapy may offer new option, but in most patients with late stages of cancer, immune cells may lose the ability to recognize tumor cells, how to activate their immune cells is a major problem, sodium glucosidate (SSG) is injected into ascites as a protein tyrosine phosphatase inhibitor to wake up immune cells and prepare for immunotherapy.

Objective: The study objective was to evaluate the impact of monitoring circulating tumor DNA on the detection and management of recurrence in patients with resected early-stage non-small cell lung cancer.
Methods: Between October 2021 and March 2023, postoperative circulating tumor DNA was monitored in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (N = 108). Longitudinal blood samples (n = 378 samples) were collected for prospective circulating tumor DNA analysis at 3-month intervals after curative-intent resection.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness and clinical utility of virtual monoenergetic image (VMI) reconstructions in computed tomography (CT) scans with and without tin prefiltration on a photon-counting detector (PCD) CT system to reduce metal implant artifacts in the postoperative ankle.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included patients with internal fixation of the ankle scanned with and without tin prefiltration (Sn) on a PCD CT scanner between March and October 2023. Virtual monoenergetic images between 60 and 190 keV were reconstructed with a 10-keV increment in a bone kernel for both acquisitions (VMI Sn and VMI Std , respectively).

Hydrogen sulfide (HS), or dihydrogen sulfane (HS), acts as a signal molecule through the beneficial mechanism of persulfidation, known as the post-translational transformation of cysteine residues to persulfides. We previously reported that Glutathione (GSH) could regulate enzyme activity through S-desulfurization or glutathionylation of residues to generate protein-SG or protein-SSG, releasing HS. However, little is known about the mechanisms by which HS and GSH affect the disulfide bonds.

Purpose Of Review: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant public health concern with substantial morbidity and mortality rates in the United States. Current management strategies primarily focus on symptomatic approaches and prevention of secondary complications. However, recent research highlights the potential role of ketone bodies, particularly beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), in modulating cellular processes involved in TBI.

Background: Many patients with COVID-19 present the so-called post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 such as fatigue, post-stress discomfort, dyspnea, headache, pain mental impairment, incapacity to perform daily physical tasks ant exercise intolerance. This study aims to investigate the effects of different exercise programs on physical and mental fitness, physical condition and biomarkers of the immune system and oxidative stress in older patients with post-COVID-19 sequelae.
Methods: The sample will be made up of 120 eligible participants, over the age of 60 years who have had COVID-19 disease and are survivors and present persistent COVID-19 symptomatology diagnosed by the corresponding physician.

Introduction: Horse clinics are hotspots for the accumulation and spread of clinically relevant and zoonotic multidrug-resistant bacteria, including extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing (ESBL) Enterobacterales. Although median laparotomy in cases of acute equine colic is a frequently performed surgical intervention, knowledge about the effects of peri-operative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) based on a combination of penicillin and gentamicin on the gut microbiota is limited.
Methods: We collected fecal samples of horses from a non-hospitalized control group (CG) and from horses receiving either a pre-surgical single-shot (SSG) or a peri-operative 5-day (5DG) course of PAP.
