Background Osmophobia (Os) has been reported to be much more prevalent in migraine (M) than in other primary headaches, and its high specificity in the differential diagnosis between M and tension-type headache (TTH) has been reported. Os was included in the ICHD II Appendix as a diagnostic criterion of M. It disappeared in ICHD-3 beta.

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, progressive inflammatory, debilitating, follicular disease of the skin with a reported incidence of less than 1% in the general population. Diagnosis of HS may typically be delayed for years, and even when diagnosed, is challenging to treat. Thus, HS has considerable negative impact on patient quality of life.

Inframammary Dermatitis: A Case of Localized Late-Onset Darier's Disease.

Darier's disease (DD) is an autosomal dominant inherited genodermatosis which is often under- or misdiagnosed. In the majority of cases, the disease manifests in adolescents or young adults with small brownish-yellow, warty, hyperkeratotic papules in multiple seborrheic areas of the body. Localized DD (LDD) is a clinical variant, first described by Kreibich in 1906; only a few cases are reported in the literature.

Cluster headache: When to worry? Two case reports.

Background The clinical criteria for cluster headache (CH) are included in Chapter 3 of the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd beta edition (ICHD-III). CH may sometimes be secondary to other pathologies. Case reports We report two patients in whom the clinical features of CH initially fulfilled the ICHD-III criteria, but who later presented some radical modifications in headache natural history as a result of a secondary pathology.

The Case of the Woman Who Did Never Dare to Fly: Headache Attributed to Imbalance Between Intrasinusal and External Air Pressure.

Background: A new form of headache, Headache attributed to aeroplane travel (AH), has been recognized within the International Classification of Headache Disorders 3 beta (ICHD-3beta). In 8 out of 85 AH cases we identified the coexistence of a headache with identical features of AH, but appearing during the rapid descent by car from a high mountain. Pain began shortly after the rapid descent from a medium altitude of 1920 m above sea level, the maximum peak of intensity developing within a few minutes.

Introduction: Mid-regional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP), procalcitonin (PCT), and mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM) demonstrated usefulness for management of emergency department patients with dyspnea.

Methods: To evaluate in patients with dyspnea, the prognostic value for 30 and 90 days mortality and readmission of PCT, MR-proADM, and MR-proANP, a multicenter prospective study was performed evaluating biomarkers at admission, 24 and 72 hours after admission. Unlabelled: Migraine is a disabling disease that can significantly affect a person's quality of life. This study assessed the efficacy and tolerability of the 2 doses of dexketoprofen trometamol (DKP) compared to placebo for migraine treatment. Ninety-three patients with at least 1 migraine attack per month in the preceding 6 months were enrolled and randomized to 25 mg DKP, 50 mg DKP, and placebo in a randomized, double-blind, single-center, crossover, placebo-controlled study.

Laparoscopic repair of epiphrenic diverticulum.

Epiphrenic diverticula (ED) are a rare clinical entity characterized by out-pouchings of the esophageal mucosa originating in the distal third of the esophagus, close to the diaphragm. The proportion of diverticula reported symptomatic enough to warrant surgery is extremely variable, ranging from 0% to 40%. The natural history of ED is still almost unknown and the most intriguing question concerns whether or not they all need surgical treatment.

The role of chemotherapy in locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

The role of chemotherapy in multimodality treatment for locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, although firmly established, presents several unresolved issues. Concomitant platinum-based chemoradiation (CRT) is a standard treatment for unresectable, resectable but nonsurgically treated, and postoperative high-risk patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. However, no clear conclusion can be drawn regarding the optimal platinum compound or combinations to use, the type of schedule, and number of cycles (ie, platinum total dose) to be delivered.

Headache attributed to airplane travel ('airplane headache'): clinical profile based on a large case series.

Background: The 'headache attributed to airplane travel', also named 'airplane headache' (AH), is a recently described headache disorder that appears exclusively in relation to airplane flights, in particular during the landing phase. Based on the stereotypical nature of the attacks in all reported cases, we proposed provisional diagnostic criteria for AH in a previously published paper. Up to now 37 cases have been described in the literature.

Long-term follow-up of Barrett's epithelium: medical versus antireflux surgical therapy.

Background: Barrett's esophagus (BE) is the most serious complication of GERD. In BE patients, this observational study compares the effects of antireflux surgery versus antisecretory medical therapy.

Methods: Overall, 89 BE patients (long BE = 45; short BE = 44) were considered: 45 patients underwent antireflux surgery and 44 underwent medical therapy.

Obsessive-Compulsive and Post Traumatic Avoidance Symptoms Influence the Response to Antihypertensive Therapy: Relevance in Uncontrolled Hypertension.

Aim: To investigate the association of uncontrolled hypertension with psychological factors associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality (type D personality, depression, posttraumatic stress-related symptoms).

Methods: 205 consecutive outpatient hypertensives completed three questionnaires evaluating Type D personality (DS 16), post traumatic symptoms (revised Impact of Events Scale), symptoms of anxiety, hostility, depression and obsessive-compulsive traits (subscales of the Symptom Checklist). Uncontrolled hypertension was diagnosed when clinic sitting blood pressure was above 140/90 mmHg (130/80 in the presence of diabetes or nephropathy), despite reported adherence to treatment with at least three antihypertensive medications, including a diuretic.
