Background This retrospective study was conducted to analyze the temporal trends, predictors, and impact of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) on outcomes among septicemic patients using a nationally representative database. Methods We derived data from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) for the years 2008-2017 for adult hospitalizations due to sepsis. The primary outcomes were in-hospital mortality and discharge to facility.

Pneumothorax as a Complication of Bevacizumab-Containing Chemotherapy: A Systematic Review of Case Reports.

Bevacizumab is a monoclonal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibody that binds to and makes all of the VEGF isoforms inactive, and thus prevents angiogenesis, development, and the spread of the tumor. The most reported side effects after administering bevacizumab include bleeding, high blood pressure, heart failure, proteinuria, thrombosis, and gastrointestinal perforation. Pneumothorax has rarely been reported as a complication of bevacizumab, but with an unclear mechanism.

Involvement of Xeroderma Pigmentosum Complementation Group G (XPG) in epigenetic regulation of T-Helper (T) cell differentiation during breast cancer.

TNFα and IFN-γ secreted by CD4T-Helper (T) cells have antitumor activity followed by polarisation of T1 phenotype in response to IL-12 secreted by dendritic cells, inducing expression of XPG, Nucleotide-Excision Repair (NER) complex component, which is downregulated in breast cancer. Therefore, we investigated the involvement of XPG in T-cell differentiation in breast cancer. XPG knock-out (KO) PBMC and T1 polarised CD4 T-cells isolated from breast cancer and control subjects blood samples were used to observe mRNA expressions of associated genes, % enrichment of corresponding epigenetic markers, and m6A RNA methylation levels to study the molecular mechanisms involved.

Incidence of Neurotoxic Symptoms in Iranian Anesthesiology Staff: Psychometric Properties of Persian Version of the Euroquest Questionnaire.

Background: With the increase in the number of people exposed to anesthetic gases, there is a critical need to examine the prevalence of neurotoxic symptoms in these individuals using reliable tools. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of EUROQUEST questionnaire and to measure the rate of neurotoxic symptoms in the anesthesiology personnel.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal manifestations of COVID-19, post COVID-19, and post COVID-19 vaccination include arthralgia, myalgia, new-onset backache, fatigue, inflammatory arthritis either symmetrical or polyarticular, reactive arthritis, osteoporosis, osteonecrosis of the femoral head, neuropathies, myositis, and myopathies. Almost 15% and 44% of post-COVID-19 patients reported arthralgia and myalgia. We aim to analyze the musculoskeletal manifestations of COVID-19 infection and the factors determining their severity.

Trends in Performance Using Early Speech Perception Test in Typically Developing Tamil-Speaking Children.

Background And Objectives: The study attempted to trace age-related changes in speech perception in typically developing children (≥3 to ≤6 years) using the "Early Speech Perception (ESP)" in Tamil. The test was developed in line with the original English version of ESP but adapted to suit the linguistic requirement of the Tamil language.

Subjects And Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, the test was administered to 205 children with normal hearing who were classified into three age groups (≥3 to ≤4, >4 to ≤5, and >5 to ≤6 years).

We report a case of a 16-year-old boy with symptomatic recurrent atrial septal defect due to patch degradation of an autologous pericardial patch, done 10 years back. He successfully underwent transcatheter closure of the recurrent defect after meticulous assessment of patch rims for stability.

Effect of modified programming parameters on sound field thresholds, speech perception and CAEP among children using CP802 processor.

Optimizing and validating programming parameters of Thresholds(T) and most comfortable levels(C) is very important in young children using a cochlear implant who may not be able provide behavioral responses. The present study attempts to describe the changes in T/C level with behavioral and Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials (CAEP) responses. Twenty participants using CI24RE (ST) implant with CP802 speech processor participated in the study.

No Room for Excess Room: Cobra Head Deformity of Both Discs of an Amplatzer Atrial Septal Occluder Device.

To our knowledge, this is the first case in the literature citing cobra head deformity of both atrial discs. A large delivery sheath with excess room possibly led to deformity in our case. This case highlights the importance of following manufacturer- recommended sheath sizes for optimal device implantation.

Background: Drug-induced hypersensitivity reaction is a potentially life-threatening condition reported among patients of different age groups. Phenytoin is a prototypic drug prescribed for the treatment of a variety of seizure disorders. Allergic reaction to phenytoin therapy in a newborn is relatively a rare clinical manifestation that is not frequently reported.

Simultaneous anterior glenohumeral dislocations are rare in occurrence and difficult to diagnose and treat. Here, we present a case of a 33-year-old male with simultaneous anterior glenohumeral fracture dislocation after an episode of seizure. Closed reduction of both the shoulders was performed.

Effect of Light-Emitting Diode Phototherapy on Serum Calcium Levels in Neonates With Jaundice.

Background: To assess the change in serum total calcium levels during light-emitting diode phototherapy treatment for jaundice in term neonates.

Methods: A prospective observational study was done on 104 term neonates with hyperbilirubinemia in a tertiary care center to investigate the effects of phototherapy using a light-emitting diode device. The total serum bilirubin along with total calcium levels was measured at the start and at the end of phototherapy.

Syphilis, a chronic infectious disease caused by Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum, progresses through three arbitrary stages resulting in varied clinical manifestations. The aberrant presentation of syphilis in the secondary stage without any clinical evidence of the primary stage is referred to as syphilis d' emblée. Here we report a series of six cases in male patients.

A rare case of disseminated superficial porokeratosis-Case report.

Porokeratosis is a keratinization disorder characterized by hyperkeratotic sharply demarcated plaques with central atrophy and histopathologically, by cornoid lamella. A 30-year-old male presented with multiple pruritic dark raised skin lesions over the trunk, face, and upper limbs for past 3 years. Cutaneous examination revealed hyperkeratotic annular plaques with raised margins over face, trunk, and arms.
