Deep brain stimulation (DBS), a proven treatment for movement disorders, also holds promise for the treatment of psychiatric and cognitive conditions. However, for DBS to be clinically effective, it may require DBS technology that can alter or trigger stimulation in response to changes in biomarkers sensed from the patient's brain. A growing body of evidence suggests that such adaptive DBS is feasible, it might achieve clinical effects that are not possible with standard continuous DBS and that some of the best biomarkers are signals from the cerebral cortex.

Background: In patients with diabetes and multivessel coronary artery disease, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been associated with higher long-term cardiovascular mortality compared to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), but the specific causes of death are not well known. We aimed to determine the causes of death among patients with diabetes and multivessel disease undergoing coronary revascularization with PCI versus CABG.
Methods: We analyzed the centrally adjudicated causes of death of 1,900 participants in the FREEDOM trial.

Background: The gold standard for assessing neonatal jaundice (NJ) is the serum total serum bilirubin (TSB) level by the diazo method. A transcutaneous bilirubinometer (TCB) provides a convenient, noninvasive readout within minutes. The reliability of TCB as the diagnostic tool and the proper site for TCB measurement remains unsettled.

Objective: This study aimed to longitudinally investigate the association between circulating neutrophil count and the progression of arterial stiffness and to ascertain whether resting heart rate (RHR) mediates this association.
Methods: The current study included 56,760 participants with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) measurements from a real-life, prospective cohort in China. The associations of circulating neutrophil (exposure) with baseline baPWV, baPWV progression, and arterial stiffness (outcomes), as well as RHR (mediator) were assessed using multivariable linear and Cox regression models and mediation analysis.

Background: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) frequently results in persistent cognitive, emotional, and functional impairments, closely linked to disruptions in the default mode network (DMN). Understanding the mechanisms driving these network abnormalities is critical for advancing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Methods: This study adopted a multimodal approach, combining functional connectivity (FC) analysis, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and gene expression profiling to investigate DMN disruptions in mTBI.

Background: The Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale (IPOS) is a key tool for assessing the quality of palliative care using patient-reported outcomes. This study aimed to culturally adapt and translate the IPOS to Korean and verify its psychometric properties for use in palliative care settings.
Methods: The IPOS was translated and culturally adapted, followed by validation in 119 terminally ill cancer patients and 28 healthcare providers across six Hospice and Palliative Care Units from September 2023 to January 2024.

Background: Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) is closely associated with mutations in the RET proto-oncogene, placing the activated RET protein at the center of MTC pathogenesis. Existing therapeutic solutions, primarily tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as selpercatinib, vandetanib, and cabozantinib, have shown moderate efficacy but are accompanied by increased risks of side effects and resistance. This study unveils a promising avenue using nonactin, a compound historically recognized for its antibacterial properties, targeting the G-quadruplex interactions within the RET proto-oncogene.

The committee selected an international panel of clinicians and researchers with expertise in sepsis management.
Background: Puberty menorrhagia, characterized by prolonged and excessive menstrual bleeding between menarche and 19 years of age, presents clinical challenges at adolescents and it is attributed to an immature hypothalamo-pituitary-ovarian axis, leading to sustained high estrogen levels and anovulation. This case report explores the efficacy of acupuncture as an adjunctive therapy for pubertal menorrhagia of a 16-year-old female with a history of irregular menstrual cycles and excessive bleeding for 41 days.
Methodology: Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) tongue and pulse diagnostics of the patient, acupuncture needling at SP4 (Gongsun), PC 6 (Neiguan), KI 14 (Siman), SP 10 (Xuehai), LR 1 (Dadun), CV 6 (Qihai) was given once in a day for a month, each session lasting 20 min targeting to alleviate Liver blood stasis.

The present study was performed to synthesize eco-friendly nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiONPs) from the aqueous extract of Fissidens species (FS) and explore its biological activities. Phytochemicals, namely, alkaloids, flavonoids, sterols, tannins, proteins, carbohydrates and phenols, were present in the aqueous extract of Fissidens sp. The UV-Vis and FT-IR analyses of FS-NiONPs revealed a prominent peak at 392 nm, along with functional groups that facilitate the formation of FS-NiONPs.

Background: Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a well-recognized risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. However, several clinical studies demonstrated an inverse association between LDL-C and mortality risk in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), known as the lipid paradox. This study aims to investigate the potential impact of inflammation on the association between LDL-C levels and mortality risks.
