Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) presents a distinct subtype of breast cancer, representing 10-15% of cases, with unique clinical and molecular features. Characterized by a non-cohesive, single-file invasion pattern, ILC is typically estrogen receptor (ER)- and progesterone receptor (PR)-positive but human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative. Despite favorable prognostic features, its highly metastatic nature and predilection for atypical sites contribute to lower long-term survival compared to invasive breast carcinoma of no special type (NST).

Real-World Experience in Treatment of Patients with Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer with BRAF or cMET Exon 14 Skipping Mutations.

BRAF and cMET exon 14 skipping are rare mutations of NSCLC. The treatment sequence in these cases for the first and second line is not clear. An international registry was created for patients with advanced NSCLC harboring BRAF or cMET exon 14 skipping mutations, diagnosed from January 2017 to June 2022.

Background: Recent evidence highlights increased mortality and morbidity due to cardiovascular disease (CVD), especially within the two major forms of Spondyloarthropathies (SpAs), Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) and Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA). Healthcare professionals and patients in these populations should be alerted regarding the high risk of cardiovascular (CV) events and thus, customize the treatment strategy accordingly.

Objective: This systematic literature review aimed to determine the effects of biological therapies on serious CV events in AS and PsA.

Limited Cerebral Metastases in NSCLC: A Literature Review of SRS Versus Whole-brain Radiotherapy.

Background/aim: Brain metastases (BMs) are common in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) with or without corticosteroid use has historically been the first choice for most patients with BMs despite its negative impact on cognition and quality of life. However, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has emerged as a safe and effective treatment and has been established for patients with limited, inoperable BMs.

Differential immunohistochemical expression of hTERT in lung cancer patients with and without idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Background: Human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) is the catalytic subunit of telomerase enzyme, which adds nucleotides to telomeres and counteracts their length shortening. The development of a telomere maintenance mechanism represents a hallmark of cancer. On the other hand, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is associated with mutations in telomerase genes and shorter telomeres.

A Rare Case of a Metastatic Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma to the Large Bowel and the Liver.

Lung carcinoma is the leading cause of death worldwide, with almost 50% of the patients presenting with distant metastases at the moment of diagnosis. The most common metastases sites are the lymph nodes, the liver, the adrenal glands, the bones, and the brain. The gastrointestinal tract was considered an unusual site for lung metastases, and due to the asymptomatic progress of the disease, they are usually diagnosed at a late stage.

Interval versus constant-load exercise training in adults with Cystic Fibrosis.

Background: The efficacy of interval exercise (IE) compared to constant-load exercise (CLE) training remains unsettled in adults with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

Methods: Twenty-four adults with CF were randomised to 30-min IE (100 % peak work capacity (WRpeak) for 30-s alternated with 40 % WRpeak for 30-s; n = 12) or 30-min CLE (70 % WRpeak; n = 12) training, 3 times weekly, for 12 weeks. Isometric quadriceps muscle strength was assessed using a strain gauge Myometer.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Related Pneumonitis.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors are novel agents that have been proved efficacious in a variety of cancer types, but they are associated with a unique set of organ-specific, immune-related adverse events. Among them, immune-related pneumonitis requires special attention because it is difficult to diagnose and potentially lethal. Accumulating real-world epidemiological data suggest that immune-related pneumonitis is more frequent than previously reported.

Background: During the past few years, the use of criteria introduced by Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) is recommended for the diagnosis and classification of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD),taking into account the values of a Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 second (FEV1) and a Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 second (FEV1) to Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) ratio. In Europe, the reference values of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), that were originally developed in 1993 are still used.

Aim Of The Study: The study aimed to carry out measurement of spirometric values in a healthy, non smoking Greek population, development of local equations and comparison with ECSC and Global Lung Initiative(GLI) equations, in order to see if there is a need for separate ones in everyday use.

Dyspnea and respiratory muscle strength in end-stage liver disease.

Aim: To investigate the prevalence of chronic dyspnea and its relationship to respiratory muscle function in end-stage liver disease.

Methods: Sixty-eight consecutive, ambulatory, Caucasian patients with end-stage liver disease, candidates for liver transplantation, were referred for preoperative respiratory function assessment. Forty of these (29 men) were included in this preliminary study after applying strict inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Background: despite a number of important differences in the pathogenesis, course, and prognosis, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have many features in common. Furthermore, smoking induces considerable overlap in pathogenesis and clinical features between these conditions. This study aimed to reveal what inflammatory patterns prevail in clinically established diagnosis groups, including overlap phenotypes of asthma and COPD, and to evaluate the correlation with airway reversibility and hyperreactivity in these overlapping conditions.

IL-18 in induced sputum and airway hyperresponsiveness in mild asthmatics: effect of smoking.

Interleukin 18 (IL-18) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine, which has been shown to be implicated in the induction of airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) in murine asthma models. Unevenness of ventilation assessed by the expired CO(2) gas volume versus V(T) curve in asthmatic patients.

Recently, we have shown that the expired CO2 gas volume versus tidal volume (VCO2-VT) curve is a useful tool for assessing unevenness of ventilation because it allows the separation of tidal volume into three functional compartments: (a) the CO2-free expired air (V0), (b) the transitional volume (Vtr), (c) the alveolar volume (VA) and the measurement of alveolar FCO2 during resting breathing in normal subjects and patients with COPD. In this paper, we have investigated whether changes pertaining to unevenness of ventilation taking place immediately after the administration of methacholine can be assessed using the VCO2-VT curve in asthmatic patients. The VCO2-VT curve was obtained during tidal breathing from 16 stable asthmatic patients who underwent a methacholine challenge test.
