Increasing awareness of the anomaly has led to early detection and referral with fewer pulmonary complications. Clinical presentation and management modalities for 585 patients of esophageal atresia and/or tracheo-esophageal fistula reporting to Department of Paediatric Surgery, SMS Medical College, Jaipur over twenty five years (1972-1996) were analyzed in five phases of five years each retrospectively. Over the period of observation, the incidence of new cases as well the number of associated anomalies have shown a steady increase due to availability of modern diagnostic facilities. The operative mortality has shown a progressive decline from 95% early in the series to 40% in last few years.

Skull fractures are unsuspected on clinical grounds hence require X-ray and hospital admission. CT scan of head should be the first line of investigation in cases of head injuries. However, where CT facilities are not available, we still recommend X-ray skull because we found a significant correlation between fracture skull and underlying intracranial lesion.

Megalourethra is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by severe dilatation of the penile urethra. Four cases of congenital megalourethra were seen at Sir Padampat Mother and Child Health Institute, Jaipur, during the last 10 years. Three cases of scaphoid megalourethra had no other associated congenital anomalies and were treat-ed successfully without any complications, while one patient with a fusiform megalourethra had severe associated congenital anomalies and died.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was performed in eight consecutively treated patients with choledochal cyst to assess its technical feasibility and complications. Satisfactory visualization of the complete anatomy of the biliary tract was possible in seven patients. Four patients had a type IV choledochal cyst and three had type I.

Precipitation test (modified Lavinson's test) was conducted in 125 cases of meningitis. Of these, 50 cases (proved cases of tuberculous meningitis) who served as positive controls showed positive response for the precipitation test in 96% and in 25 cases of negative control group (cases of meningitis other than TBM), it showed only 4% positivity. The remaining 50 cases of TBM where the cytological and biochemical findings were not in correlation with clinical diagnosis of TBM, showed 92% positivity for early diagnosis of TBM.
