In this study, a wearable and highly stretchable organic thermoelectric (TE) generator with a notable power density is developed. A highly stretchable and solution-processable TE/electrode pattern is realized by stepwise-curing elastomeric and conducting network. Significant advances in the TE or electrical properties are obtained for these stretchable patterns through post-activation treatment, which creates long-range charge transport pathways without degrading pre-established elastomeric networks.

Oxide/Nitride/Oxide/Nitride (ONON; SiO/SiN/SiO/SiN) stacked structure is widely used in the 3D vertical structure of semiconductor cells. Previously, to form a 3D cells, photoresist (PR) was patterned and repeatedly trimmed on the top of ONON after the etching of one ON layer. Due to the time-consuming process of etching layer-by-layer of ON layer, two-step etch processing using CF-based or CF-based gases composed of maskless ONON stack feature etching and followed one ON layer-by layer etching by PR trimming in the ONON stack feature are employed these days.

The impact ionization process offers advantages in achieving low-power and high-speed switching in transistors and also provides high internal gain for photodetectors. We investigate the density dependence of both electron- and hole-initiated impact ionization in WSe. We observe a record-low critical electric field for impact ionization and a large multiplication factor in WSe when the impact ionization is initiated by holes, particularly near a charge-neutral point.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have received considerable attention as promising electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), yet their potential is often constrained by the inertness of the basal planes arising from their poor hydrogen adsorption ability. Here, the relationship between the electronic structure of the WS basal plane and HER activity is systemically analyzed to establish a clear insight. The valance state of the sulfur atoms on the basal plane has been tuned to enhance hydrogen adsorption through sequential engineering processes, including direct phase transition and heterostructure that induces work function-difference-induced unidirectional electron transfer.

The integration of artificial spiking neurons based on steep-switching logic devices and artificial synapses with neuromorphic functions enables an energy-efficient computer architecture that mimics the human brain well, known as a spiking neural network (SNN). 2D materials with impact ionization or ferroelectric characteristics have the potential for use in such devices. However, research on 2D spiking neurons remains limited and investigations of 2D artificial synapses far more common.

Plasmonic nanoparticles can be assembled into a superlattice, to form optical metamaterials, particularly targeting precise control of optical properties such as refractive index (RI). The superlattices exhibit enhanced near-field, given the sufficiently narrow gap between nanoparticles supporting multiple plasmonic resonance modes only realized in proximal environments. Herein, the planar superlattice of plasmonic Au nanohexagons (AuNHs) with precisely controlled geometries such as size, shape, and edge-gaps is reported.

Flexible and high-performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) encounter challenges due to the inherent trade-offs in conventional electrode designs, particularly concerning mechanical flexibility and high energy density. Here, a novel percolative metal microweb-based electrode, fabricated via electrohydrodynamic processes, yielding a three-dimensional (3D) network structure with exceptional electrical properties and mechanical durability is introduced. This lightweight electrode design addresses the need for improved energy density by reducing the weight of the current collector, which typically accounts for more than 10% of the battery's weight.

Quantum dots (QDs) exhibit size-tunable optical properties, making them suitable for efficient light-sensing and light-emitting devices. Tandem devices that can convert near-infrared (NIR) to visible (Vis) signals can be fabricated by integrating an NIR-sensing QD device with a Vis electroluminescence (EL) QD device. However, these devices require delicate control of the QD layer during processing to prevent damage to the predeposited QD layers in tandem devices during the subsequent deposition of other functional layers.

Although biocides are important materials in modern society and help protect human health and the environment, increasing exposure to combined biocides can cause severe side effects in the human body, such as lung fibrosis. In this study, we developed a receptonics system to screen for biocides in combined household chemical products based on biocides. The system contains transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) nanovesicles (NVs) to sense biocides based on pain receptors and a side-gated field-effect transistor (SGFET) using a single-layer graphene (SLG) micropattern channel.

Preventing ion migration in perovskite photovoltaics is key to achieving stable and efficient devices. The activation energy for ion migration is affected by the chemical environment surrounding the ions. Thus, the migration of organic cations in lead halide perovskites can be mitigated by engineering their local interactions, for example through hydrogen bonding.

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) offer high color purity essential to high-quality liquid crystal displays (LCDs), which enables unprecedented levels of color enrichment in LCD-TVs today. However, for LCDs requiring polarized backplane illumination in operation, highly polarized light generation using inherently isotropic QDs remains a fundamental challenge. Here, we show strongly polarized color conversion of isotropic QDs coupled to Fano resonances of v-grooved surfaces compatible with surface-normal LED illumination for next-generation QD-TVs.

In recent years, considerable attention has focused on high-performance and flexible crystalline metal oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs). However, achieving both high performance and flexibility in semiconductor devices is challenging due to the inherently conductive and brittle nature of crystalline metal oxide. In this study, we propose a facile way to overcome this limitation by employing a junctionless (JL) TFT structure via oxygen plasma treatment of the crystalline indium-tin oxide (ITO) films.

Structural deformation modifies the bandgap, exciton fine structure and phonon energy of semiconductors, providing an additional knob to control their optical properties. The impact can be exploited in colloidal semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), wherein structural stresses can be imposed in three dimensions while defect formation is suppressed by controlling surface growth kinetics. Yet, the control over the structural deformation of QDs free from optically active defects has not been reached.

One of the exotic expectations in the 2D curved spacetime is the geometric potential from the curvature of the 2D space, still possessing unsolved fundamental questions through Dirac quantization. The atomically thin 2D materials are promising for the realization of the geometric potential, but the geometric potential in 2D materials is not identified experimentally. Here, the curvature-induced ring-patterned bound states are observed in structurally deformed 2D semiconductors and formulated the modified geometric potential for the curvature effect, which demonstrates the ring-shape bound states with angular momentum.
