Background And Purpose: Pharmacists are frequently faced with evocative patient care conversations surrounding medication taking behaviors and overall health and wellness. Teaching communication is a core focus within pharmacy education; however, there is often less emphasis placed on learning motivational interviewing (MI). We will share challenges and successes associated with the creation and dissemination of a MI-based communications course with pharmacy student learners.

Tetracaine is a potent ester-type local anesthetic. Recent publications describe the use of TC free base in topical anesthetic formulations containing propylene glycol. While solvolysis of tetracaine in propylene glycol solutions has been reported, there are no detailed reports on the kinetics of tetracaine reaction with propylene glycol.

Background And Purpose: To design and implement an undergraduate honors course for pre-health professional students that develops interpersonal skills through use of a variety of humanities.
Educational Activity And Setting: A three credit hour course in an honors seminar sequence was developed by pharmacy practice faculty and with input from faculty in mass communications, philosophy, applied communication studies and history. The course utilized a variety of media such as literature, film, and podcasts to foster student discussion about a variety of health-related topics.

A case-based interprofessional education (IPE) ethics activity between pharmacy and dental students was developed and evaluated. Eighty-two third-year pharmacy and 51 first-year dental students were divided into teams for two sessions. The IPE activity involved the student teams analyzing two cases at each session utilizing an ethical decision-making process followed by debriefing of each case.

Tetracaine topical solution may improve patient adherence with topical clotrimazole therapy for fungal otitis externa. The chemical stability of tetracaine 1% and combination clotrimazole 1% with tetracaine 1% topical solutions was determined using a stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatography assay. Propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol 400 were used as anhydrous solvents.

This article explains the rationale for development of interferons as therapeutic agents, and describes commercial products available today. It also provides a summary of studies that have been performed with interferons for use as exogenous biological response modifiers in viral infections. Overall, the best data exist for treatment of viral hepatitis B and C, for which interferons are a cornerstone of therapy.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a community-based treatment approach intended to help in the recovery and rehabilitation of clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses. A clinical pharmacist is not routinely a member of an ACT team. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the role of a pharmacist by reviewing recommendations and interventions made by a clinical pharmacist on an ACT team.
