Cysticercosis cellulosae, caused by the larval stage of Taenia solium is a common parasitic infection in Indian subcontinent. Although cysticercosis is common in other parts of the human body, its involvement with temporalis muscle is an extremely rare entity and demands documentation. This paper reports a case of cysticercosis cellulosae in a 35-year-old male patient within the temporalis muscle mimicking temporal space infection; due to the presence of concomitant dental infection, which was diagnosed with the help of high resolution ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging and managed conservatively using oral antiparasitic medication.

October 2013

Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, SGT Dental College Hospital & Research Institute, Budhera, Gurgaon, Haryana, India.

Abfraction or Theory of Abfraction is a theory explaining the non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL). It suggests that they are caused by flexural forces, usually from cyclic loading; the enamel, especially at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ), undergoes this pattern of destruction by separating the enamel rods. Clinical aspect importance of these ineart lesions are at most important to be detected for early intervention and treatment modalities as options during the progression of the disease.

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) and related lesions comprise a complex group of mixed odontogenic tumors. Ameloblastic fibrodentinoma (AFD) is a rare tumor and is considered as a histological variant of AF showing inductive changes that lead to the formation of dentin. Although the most common site for this tumor is the posterior mandible, hereby we are reporting a case of AFD in the anterior maxillary region which is a very rare site for this group of tumors.

"Perioceutics" or the use of the pharmacological agents which are specifically developed to manage periodontitis, is an interesting and an emerging aid in the management of periodontal diseases, along with mechanical debridement. Host modulation therapies are being proposed and developed to bring down excessive levels of enzymes, cytokines, prostanoids, as well modulate osteoclast functions. Over the past two decades, many drugs have been investigated for their host modulating properties in both animal and early human clinical studies.

The aetiologic factors are still unknown, but many authors have reported the radiation therapy history as an important aetiological factor, followed by trauma and underlying conditions like Paget's disease, fibrous dysplasia or chronic osteomyelitis. Fibrosarcoma of mandible is rare, with an incidence which ranges from 0-6.

Department of Periodontics and Oral Implantology, SGT Dental College, Hospital and Research Institute, Gurgaon, Haryana, India.

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease which represents a primarily anaerobic Gram-negative oral infection that results in gingival inflammation, loss of attachment, bone destruction. Bacterial endotoxins in the form of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) that are instrumental in generating a host-mediated tissue destructive immune response by mobilizing their defensive cells and releasing cytokines like Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), and Interleukin-6 (IL-6), which lead to tissue destruction by stimulating the production of the collagenolytic enzymes: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Since the host-mediated tissue destruction is to be controlled, various means have been employed for modulating this response.
