Effectiveness of structured physiotherapy in constipation in children with neurodevelopmental disorders-a randomized trial.

Introduction: Constipation is one of the major issues faced by children with neuro-developmental disorder (NDD). The aims of the study were to: 1) examine the effectiveness of a structured physiotherapy program on constipation in children with NDD; and 2) compare if conventional physiotherapy along with structured physiotherapy intervention has any combined effect on constipation in children with NDD.

Method: Thirty-five children with neurodevelopmental disorder were assessed and randomly allotted into two groups.

Clinico-Epidemiological Profile of Dialysis Services in Karnataka, India - A Multicentric Exploratory Study.

Introduction: New challenges in dialysis care delivery confront caregivers with the rise in dialysis numbers. There are significant lacunae in the knowledge and efficient application of dialysis therapy in the absence of a dialysis registry. This multicentric study was conducted by the Nephrology Association of Karnataka to systematically study patient demographics and dialysis characteristics in Karnataka state, India, as a basis for a statewide dialysis registry.

Grossly Depressed Frontal Bone Fracture in a Paediatric Patient: A Case Report.

This study highlights the management of a grossly depressed frontal bone fracture with obvious deformity in a paediatric patient as facial fracture management is frequently intricate and challenging, particularly within the paediatric population as compared to adult. Paediatric fractures have a greater capacity to remodel, but the paediatric brain and craniofacial skeleton are still developing which puts the children at risk for unique complications, such as growing skull fractures.

A Rare Case of Pseudoaneurysm of the Brachial Artery in Supracondylar Humerus Fracture.

Introduction: Supracondylar humerus fractures are very common fractures in children. About 10-14% are associated with vascular complications. We report a rare case of pseudoaneurysm of the brachial artery which was promptly detected in a well-perfused hand nearly 2 weeks after reduction and fixation.

Management of complex femur fractures in children: A report of Three Cases.

Introduction: Complex femur fractures are defined as combined fractures of shaft and proximal of or the distal femur. Restoration of anatomical alignment is the primary goal of the management of these fractures. In this report, we describe the management of complex femur shaft fractures in three pediatric patients.

Phosphaturic Mesenchymal Tumor in the Maxillofacial Region: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

Oncogenic osteomalacia is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome and is associated with the presence of phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor (PMT) which results in renal phosphate wasting with hypophosphatemia. In total, 95% of cases reported in upper and lower extremities and in head and neck are a rare site for these tumors. Besides osteomalacia, the clinical presentation includes bone pain and multiple bone fractures.

Establishment of a Rapid Response, 100-Bedded COVID-19 Hospital With General Wards and Intensive Care Unit Within 35 Days in North Karnataka, India: Report From the Field.

In the state of Karnataka, India, the first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was diagnosed on March 9, 2020. As stated by the WHO, around 15% of COVID-19 patients require treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Keeping this in mind, along with the increase in COVID-19 patients in Karnataka, it was predicted that the prevailing general wards and ICUs would be overburdened with the added non-COVID-19 diseases and infirmities.

Therapeutic Hypothermia for Neonatal Encephalopathy in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Literature Review.

Aims: This structured review aimed to discuss the existing literature on therapeutic hypothermia for moderate to severe neonatal encephalopathy exclusively in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Methods: Medline, Embase, CINHAL and Cochrane Registry were searched for original papers with therapeutic hypothermia (TH) for treating neonatal encephalopathy in LMIC with no language restrictions. The search identified 1413 papers from 1990 to 31 August 2021.

Covid-19-associated fungal osteomyelitis of jaws and sinuses: An experience-driven management protocol.

Unlabelled: Invasive fungal co-infections with COVID-19 are currently being reported at an alarming rate. Our study explores the importance of early identification of the disease, probable etiopathogenesis, clinical and radiological features and a treatment protocol for COVID-19 Associated Fungal Osteomyelitis of Jaws and Sinuses (CAFOJS). A one-year prospective study from June 2020 to May 2021 was conducted among CAFOJS diagnosed patients at a tertiary care center in South India.

A Rare Case of Glial Choristoma Arising from the Vomer in Association with Cleft Palate.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs of > 200 nucleotides length that are emerging as novel players in the field of cancer diagnostics or prognostics. Recently, lncRNAs are known to be associated with oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC).

Role of Cel5H protein surface amino acids in binding with clay minerals and measurements of its forces.

Our previous study on the binding activity between Cel5H and clay minerals showed highest binding efficiency among other cellulase enzymes cloned. Here, based on previous studies, we hypothesized that the positive amino acids on the surface of Cel5H protein may play an important role in binding to clay surfaces. To examine this, protein sequences of Bacillus licheniformis Cel5H (BlCel5H) and Paenibacillus polymyxa Cel5A (PpCel5A) were analyzed and then selected amino acids were mutated.

We compared the duration of analgesia provided by local anesthetic (LA) and dexmedetomidine for caudal and IL/IH block for pediatric inguinal surgeries.

FBXO31, a member of F-box protein family, has been shown to play an important role in preventing tumorigenesis by preserving genomic stability during cell proliferation as well as upon genotoxic stress. Inactivation of FBXO31 due to loss of heterozygosity is associated with various cancers, including ovarian cancer, one of the deadliest forms of gynecological cancers. However, the role and regulation of FBXO31 in ovarian cancer remained elusive.

Tissue-Restricted Stem Cells as Starting Cell Source for Efficient Generation of Pluripotent Stem Cells: An Overview.

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have vast biomedical potential concerning disease modeling, drug screening and discovery, cell therapy, tissue engineering, and understanding organismal development. In the year 2006, a groundbreaking study reported the generation of iPSCs from mouse embryonic fibroblasts by viral transduction of four transcription factors, namely, Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc. Subsequently, human iPSCs were generated by reprogramming fibroblasts as a starting cell source using two reprogramming factor cocktails [(i) OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC, and (ii) OCT4, SOX2, NANOG, and LIN28].

Renal Dysfunction in Prediabetes: Confirmed by Glomerular Hyperfiltration and Albuminuria.

Prediabetes is defined as an intermediate state of hyperglycemia with glucose levels above normal but below the diagnostic cutoff of diabetes mellitus. Prediabetes is considered as an important risk factor for the development of diabetes and complications associated with diabetes. Since glomerular hyperfiltration (elevated GFR) and albuminuria represent early and reversible stages of kidney damage seen in patients with type 2 diabetes, we aim to assess the impact of hyperglycemia in prediabetic range on renal functions measured by estimated GFR and urine albumin excretion (UAE).

Variations in the Anatomy of Spinal Accessory Nerve and its Landmarks for Identification in Neck Dissection: A Clinical Study.

Purpose: To assess the anatomy of the spinal accessory nerve (SAN), its variations and the landmark of level II B lymph nodes.

Methods: Prospective study included 50 patients from 2016 to 2018.The predictor variables were drawn from demographic details of the patients; SAN was analyzed intraoperatively with the parameters like the nerve relationship with the IJV, SCM muscle, contributions of cervical plexus and a new parameter of length from midpoint of clavicle to entry of nerve in the trapezius muscle in the lower part of neck which was studied for the first time and forms the prime identification landmark to preserve the nerve.
