Article Synopsis
  • - In India, heart failure (HF) is a significant health issue, impacting younger individuals compared to Western countries, but many patients do not receive proper medical treatment.
  • - Selective β-1 blockers, like bisoprolol, are important in treating HF because they help lower heart rate and reverse negative heart and blood vessel changes associated with the condition.
  • - Despite the benefits of bisoprolol for various HF cases and comorbid conditions, its use in India remains suboptimal, prompting a consensus on its effectiveness and recommending it for better patient care.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have been used for almost a decade and have proven to be effective not only in managing Type 2 diabetes (T2D), but their cardio and renal protective features make them very useful in managing patients with risk of multiple comorbidities. This systematic review was undertaken by the authors because there is no evidence currently available in India that has studied the suitability of SGLT2i as a first-line agent in patients newly diagnosed with T2D in India.

Materials And Methods: First, literature was searched to identify features that are considered important when deciding on a first-line agent for managing T2D.

Subcutaneous white adipose tissue (scWAT) is a dynamic storage and secretory organ that regulates systemic homeostasis, yet the impact of endurance exercise training (ExT) and sex on its molecular landscape is not fully established. Utilizing an integrative multi-omics approach, and leveraging data generated by the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC), we show profound sexual dimorphism in the scWAT of sedentary rats and in the dynamic response of this tissue to ExT. Specifically, the scWAT of sedentary females displays -omic signatures related to insulin signaling and adipogenesis, whereas the scWAT of sedentary males is enriched in terms related to aerobic metabolism.

  • A study examined how genetic predispositions to lower white blood cell (WBC) counts affect health outcomes in over 89,000 biobank participants, focusing on variations not linked to diseases.
  • Results showed that individuals with a genetic tendency for lower WBC counts had a reduced likelihood of finding abnormal pathology in bone marrow biopsies but were more prone to leukopenia during chemotherapy and immunosuppressant treatments.
  • The findings indicate that some people might experience unnecessary changes in their medical treatment due to their genetic profile, suggesting the need for personalized care approaches.
