Currently, urinary tract infection (UTI) diagnosis focuses on planktonic cell detection rather than biofilm detection, but the facile identification of UPEC bacterial biofilms is crucial in UTI diagnosis as the biofilm formed by bacteria is the causative agent of recurrent and chronic UTIs. Therefore, in this work, we developed a simple, cost-effective, colorimetric, and electrochemical-based strategy for the detection of cellulose in urine. Cellulose, a biofilm matrix component, was detected using tyrosine-capped gold and silver nanoparticles through a visible colorimetric change with a decrease in the absorbance intensity and a decrease in current response in the case of cyclic voltammetry.

The accuracy and performance of the effective harmonic oscillator approximation for the description of anharmonic vibrational structure calculations are tested for large molecular systems and compared with experimental values along with vibrational self-consistent field and second-order perturbation theories. The effective harmonic oscillator approach is an effective single-particle approximation where the variational parameters are the centroids and widths of the multidimensional Gaussian product functions posited as the vibrational wave functions. A comprehensive calculation for 849 transitions that include the fundamentals, two and three quanta overtone transitions, and several combination bands of three polyaromatic hydrocarbons and one DNA nucleobase with a total of 231 normal modes are assessed.

Probiotics offer a promising prophylactic approach against various pathogens and represent an alternative strategy to combat biofilm-related infections. In this study, we isolated vaginal commensal microbiota from 54 healthy Indian women to investigate their probiotic traits. We primarily explored the ability of cell-free supernatant (CFS) from Lactobacilli to prevent Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) colonization and biofilm formation.

In current trends, an imminent development of self-detoxification filters is highly desirable against exposure to chemical warfare agents (CWAs). Exploiting protective materials that can be applicable in day-to-day life for instantaneous detoxification will be of immense importance. The available technologies in the current scenario are susceptible to secondary emission and pose a need for an alternate design strategy for effective degradation.

Lymphatic filariasis (LF) remains a significant health challenge for populations in developing countries. LF is a parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes, mainly caused by the filarial nematode, Wuchereria bancrofti, prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions. Since the present drugs develop complications, including adverse side effects, lack of specificity, and development of drug resistance, the present study focused on developing the potential anti-filariasis drugs targeting crucial proteins for the nematode life cycle.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most impactful events in our lifetime, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants were reported globally, and a wide range of symptoms existed. Individuals who contract COVID-19 continue to suffer for a long time, known as long COVID or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC).

Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) is a transmembrane protein in the myelin sheath. It acts as an auto-antigen under certain unknown conditions causing demyelination, thus resulting in Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-associated Disease (MOGAD). The significance of glycosylation in the conformational dynamics of the extracellular region (EC1) of the MOG were evident from the previous computational studies.

Phase transitions are crucial in shaping the collective dynamics of a broad spectrum of natural systems across disciplines. Here, we report two distinct heterogeneous nucleation facilitating single step and multistep phase transitions to global synchronization in a finite-size adaptive network due to the trade off between time scale adaptation and coupling strength disparities. Specifically, small intracluster nucleations coalesce either at the population interface or within the populations resulting in the two distinct phase transitions depending on the degree of the disparities.

Antibiotic resistance and re-emergence of highly resistant pathogens is a grave concern everywhere and this has consequences for all kinds of human activities. Herein, we showed that N-palmitoylethanolamine-derived cationic lipid (cN16E) had a lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria when it was loaded with Butea monosperma seed lectin (BMSL). The analysis using lectin-FITC conjugate labelling indicated that the improved antibacterial activity of BMSL conjugation was due to bacterial cell surface glycan recognition.

A highly efficient and innovative method involving base-mediated oxidative annulation between 2-naphthols and phenylglyoxal monohydrate under visible light irradiation has been successfully developed. This method leads to the formation of oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds, particularly hydroxy-naphthofuranone derivatives, encompassing a unique quaternary carbon center. An X-ray diffraction study has unambiguously confirmed the structure of one such derivative.

Antibodies have been extensively used in numerous applications within proteomics-based technologies, requiring high sensitivity, specificity, a broad dynamic range for detection, and precise, reproducible quantification. Seeking alternatives to antibodies due to several inherent limitations of antibodies is an area of active research of tremendous importance. Recently, aptamers have been receiving increasing attention, because they not only have all of the advantages of antibodies, but also have unique advantages, such as thermal stability, low cost, and unlimited applications.

Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) are a rare autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder. To date, approximately 50 different subtypes of SCAs have been characterized. The prevalent types of SCAs are usually of PolyQ origin, wherein the disease pathology is a consequence of multiple glutamine residues being encoded onto the disease proteins, causing expansions.

The development of a long-acting injectable drug delivery systems (DDS) of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) holds great promise in addressing the challenges of treatment adherence, predominantly in HIV/AIDS. Polymers are inevitable carriers for the preparation of DDS, which are typically composed of polylactide (PLA), carbohydrates such as chitosan or cellulose derivatives. In this study, the tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) laden PLA-stereocomplex-chitosan nanoparticles (Sc-PLA-chitosan NPs) were developed through the spray-dried technique.

Swarmalators are oscillators that can swarm as well as sync via a dynamic balance between their spatial proximity and phase similarity. Swarmalator models employed so far in the literature comprise only one-dimensional phase variables to represent the intrinsic dynamics of the natural collectives. Nevertheless, the latter can indeed be represented more realistically by high-dimensional phase variables.
