Carbazole-picoline based π-conjugated zwitterionic fluorophores, (E)-3-(4-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)styryl)pyridin-1-ium-1-yl)propane-1-sulfonate (Cz-PS) and (E)-4-(4-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)styryl)pyridin-1-ium-1-yl)butane-1-sulfonate (Cz-BS) were synthesized and investigated the stimuli-responsive solid-state fluorescence properties. Cz-PS and Cz-BS displayed enhanced fluorescence in the solid-state (555 and 542 nm) with the quantum yield (Φ) of 32.9 and 28.

Carbazole-based, π-conjugated donor-acceptor fluorophores were synthesized by integrating imidazole/thiazole units. Then, we investigated the impact of subtle structural changes on fluorescence properties. Carbazole integrated with imidazole (Cz-I) and carbazole integrated with thiazole (Cz-T) showed strong fluorescence in solution (quantum yield ( ) = 0.

The use of metal-organic compounds as electrocatalysts for water splitting reactions has gained increased attention; however, a fundamental understanding of the structural requirement for effective catalytic activity is still limited. Herein, we synthesized water-coordinated mono and bimetallic copper complexes (CuPz-HO·HO, CuPz-HO, CuBipy-HO·HO, and CuMorph-HO) with varied intermetallic spacing (pyrazine/4,4'-bipyridine) and explored the structure-dependent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity in alkaline medium. Single crystal structural studies revealed water-coordinated monometallic complexes (CuMorph-HO) and bimetallic complexes (CuPz-HO·HO, CuPz-HO, CuBipy-HO·HO).

The design and synthesis of amphiphilic molecules play a crucial role in fabricating smart functional materials self-assembly. Especially, biologically significant natural molecules and their structural analogues have inspired chemists and made a major contribution to the development of advanced smart materials. In this report, a series of amphiphilic -acyl amides were synthesized from natural precursors using a simple synthetic protocol.

Highly regioselective organo photocatalysis of 4CzIPN (1,2,3,5-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene) for the arylation of 2-indazole is demonstrated. The present synthetic route provides a highly safe and easily accessible aniline precursor as an arylation reagent. The photoactivated 4CzIPN organocatalyst is found to be more efficient for single electron transfer without any organic base for the radical reaction.

Polyketals are a class of acid-responsive polymers that have been relatively less explored for drug delivery applications compared to polyesters. The degradation of these polymers is accelerated in an acidic medium and does not result in acidic byproducts. Their biocompatibility depends on the diol used for the synthesis.

Two potential bioactive pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile derivatives have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques (H and C-NMR) and the three dimensional structures were elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction at low temperature (160 K). In both structures, the molecular conformation is locked by an intramolecular C-H⋯C interaction involving the cyano and CH of the thiophene and phenyl rings. The intermolecular interactions were analyzed in a qualitative manner based on the Hirshfeld surface and 2D-fingerprint plots.

6- cyclization reaction through regioselective carbopalladation was demonstrated with -(2-halobenzyl)--allylamines to furnish the corresponding C4-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives. The scope of the reaction was extended to the synthesis of C4-quaternary tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives also. The nature of the substituent on the olefin moiety dictates the course of the carbopalladation sequence.

Three adamantane-1,3,4-thiadiazole hybrid derivatives namely; -ethyl-5-(adamantan-1-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine I, -(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(adamantan-1-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine II and (4-bromophenyl)-5-(adamantan-1-yl)--1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine III, have been synthesized and crystal structures have been determined at low temperature. The structures revealed that the orientation of the amino group is different in non-halogenated structures. Intra- and intermolecular interactions were characterized on the basis of the quantum theory of atoms-in-molecules (QTAIM) approach.

An oxidant-free three-component synthesis of biologically significant 7-amino-6-benzo[]chromen-6-ones was established involving a Sc(OTf) catalyzed three-component reaction between primary amines, β-ketoesters and 2-hydroxychalcones under green conditions. In this strategy, both the B and C rings of 6-benzo[]chromen-6-ones were constructed simultaneously starting from acyclic precursors by generating four new bonds including two C-C, one C-N and one C-O in a single synthetic operation. The mechanism of this sequential cascade process involves the initial formation of a β-enaminone intermediate followed by Michael addition with 2-hydroxychalcone, intramolecular cyclization, dehydration, lactonization and aromatization steps.

Mercury exists in organic, inorganic, and elemental forms; all of them are highly toxic. A sensor which could detect all forms of mercury below the permissible level in environmental and biological samples would be advantageous. A facile method to synthesize -acetyl cysteine capped cadmium selenide quantum dots (CdSe QDs) with an emission at 554 nm was reported.

Herein, we reported the supramolecular organization of -acyltris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (NATM) in the solid state as well as in aqueous solution. Single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that NATM adopts a fully interdigitized structure. The thermodynamic parameters associated with thermotropic phase behaviour of NATM was determined by differential scanning calorimetry.
