In this paper, we introduce a new, open-source software developed in Python for analyzing Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) waveforms. ABRs are a far-field recording of synchronous neural activity generated by the auditory fibers in the ear in response to sound, and used to study acoustic neural information traveling along the ascending auditory pathway. Common ABR data analysis practices are subject to human interpretation and are labor-intensive, requiring manual annotations and visual estimation of hearing thresholds.

Enhanced rock weathering (EW) is an emerging atmospheric carbon dioxide removal (CDR) strategy being scaled up by the commercial sector. Here, we combine multiomics analyses of belowground microbiomes, laboratory-based dissolution studies, and incubation investigations of soils from field EW trials to build the case for manipulating iron chelators in soil to increase EW efficiency and lower costs. To survive in changing environments, animals need to learn to associate specific sensory stimuli with positive or negative valence. How do they form stimulus-specific memories to distinguish between positively/negatively associated stimuli and other irrelevant stimuli? Solving this task is one of the functions of the mushroom body, the associative memory center in insect brains. Here we summarize recent work on sensory encoding and memory in the mushroom body, highlighting general principles such as pattern separation, sparse coding, noise and variability, coincidence detection, and spatially localized neuromodulation, and placing the mushroom body in comparative perspective with mammalian memory systems.

The minute 'dust seeds' of some terrestrial orchids preferentially germinate and develop as mycoheterotrophic protocorms near conspecific adult plants. Here we test the hypothesis that mycorrhizal mycelial connections provide a direct pathway for transfer of recent photosynthate from conspecific green orchids to achlorophyllous protocorms.
