Pancreatic lipase is one of the crucial lipolytic enzymes of the gut that actively facilitates the digestion and absorption of the dietary triglycerides and cholesteryl esters. Although it has been deemed as one of the most reliable targets for the treatment of obesity and/or dyslipidemia, to date, orlistat is the only known FDA-approved, effective, oral pancreatic lipase inhibitor available for clinical use apart from the centrally acting antiobesity agents. However, it is known to be associated with adverse gastrointestinal and renal complications.

An endo-poly-galacturonase (PGU1) gene product is responsible for the pectolytic activity in Saccharomyces bayanus. Therefore, it is of interest to document the comparative structural and functional analysis of the PGU1 protein from Saccharomyces bayanus with those in other Saccharomyces related species. The molecular docking analyses of pectin with the different homology models of PGU1 protein from several Saccharomyces species are reported.

A plethora of 6-(hetero)aryl C-C and C-N bonded tacrine analogues has been made accessible by employing palladium mediated (Suzuki-Miyaura, Heck, Sonogashira, Stille and Buchwald) cross-coupling reactions, starting from either halogenated or borylated residues. The successful use of Pd(dppf)Cl·CHCl as a common catalytic system in realizing all these otherwise challenging transformations is the highlight of our optimized protocols. The analogues thus synthesized allow the available chemical space around the C-6 of this biologically relevant tacrine core to be explored.

Background And Aim: The insulin resistance-mediated abnormal gluconeogenesis when exceeds a given threshold culminates in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This induces severe cellular oxidative stress that may eventually facilitate typical neoplastic transformations. This narrative review aims to portray some of the plausible key mechanistic links bridging T2DM and specific cancers.

Electronic address:

Glitazones are synthetic derivatives of thiazolidinedione, and are designated as oral anti-diabetic agents, primarily acting on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ) receptors and driving some crucial metabolic pathways linked to glucose and lipid metabolism at transcriptional level. Despite presenting adverse effects, including weight gain, fluid retention, prostate hyperplasia, hyperinsulinemia, and myocardial infarction, they are still preferred in clinical settings due to their utmost efficacy and selectivity. However, these complications kept glitazones restrained for long-term usage.

The main aim of the present investigation was to enhance the solubility of poorly soluble Gliclazide by nanocrystallization. In present investigation gliclazide nanocrystals were prepared by sonoprecipitation using Pluronic F68, Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA), Poly ethylene Glycol 6000 (PEG), Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidine (PVP K30) and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) as stabilizers. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic study (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and X ray diffraction (XRD) studies were conducted to study the drug interactions.

In the present study, we have tested the beneficial effects of forskolin in protecting the mancozeb-induced reproductive toxicity in rats. Adult male Wistar rats were exposed to either mancozeb (500 mg/kg body weight/day) or forskolin (5 mg/kg body weight/day) or both for 65 days and analyzed for spermatogenesis and steroidogenesis and testicular and epididymal oxidative toxicity. A significant decrease in daily sperm production, epididymal sperm count, motile, viable, and hypo-osmotic swelling-tail swelled sperm was observed in mancozeb-treated rats.

Mammalian lethal with SEC13 protein 8 (mLST8), is an indispensable protein subunit of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway that interacts with the kinase domain of mTOR protein, thereby stabilizing its active site. Experimental studies reported the over expression of mLST8 in human colon and prostate cancers by activation of both mTORC1/2 complexes and subsequent downstream substrates leading to tumor progression. Considering its role, targeting mLST8 protein would be a therapeutic approach against tumor progression in colon and prostate cancers.

The present study tried for a phyto-synthetic method of producing silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) with size controlled as and eco-friendly route that can lead to their advanced production with decorative tranquil morphology. By inducing temperature fluctuation of the reaction mixture from 25 to 80°C the plasmon resonance band raised slowly which had an ultimate effect on size and shape of Ag-NPs as shown by UV-visible spectroscopy and TEM results. The biosynthesized nanoparticles showed good cytotoxic impact against MCF-7, A549 and Hep2 cells compared to normal cell lines.

A broad range of aldehydes undergo a smooth cascade cyclization with (E)-5-(3-phenylprop-2-ynylamino)pent-3-en-1-ol in the presence of BF·OEt at room temperature to furnish a novel series of (octahydro-1H-pyrano[3,4-c]pyridin-5-yl)methanone derivatives in good yields and diastereoselectivities. This cascade process provides a simple and proficient alternative for the stereoselective construction of fused pyranopiperidine derivatives.

A suboptimal in utero environment can have detrimental effects on the pregnancy and long-term adverse "programing" effects on the offspring. Aflatoxin B1 is one of the potent reproductive toxicants and currently detected in both milk and tissues. This article focuses on the effects of prenatal exposure to graded doses of aflatoxin B1 on the pregnancy outcomes of dams and postnatal developments of the female offspring, since these issues have ethological relevance in both animals and humans.

Aluminum (Al) stress is one of the serious limiting factors in plant productivity in acidic soils, which constitute about 50 % of the world's potentially arable lands and causes anywhere between 25 and 80 % of yield losses depending upon the species. The mechanism of Al toxicity and tolerance has been examined in plants, which is vital for crop improvement and enhanced food production in the future. Two mechanisms that facilitate Al tolerance in plants are Al exclusion from the roots and the ability to tolerate Al in the symplast or both.

Mesophase organization of molecules built with thiophene at the center and linked via flexible spacers to rigid side arm core units and terminal alkoxy chains has been investigated. Thirty homologues realized by varying the span of the spacers as well as the length of the terminal chains have been studied. In addition to the enantiotropic nematic phase observed for all the mesogens, the increase of the spacer as well as the terminal chain lengths resulted in the smectic C phase.
