Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the genetic underpinnings of congenital pouch colon (CPC), highlighting the lack of research in this area despite extensive clinical documentation.
  • A total of 20 cases of CPC and 52 controls were analyzed, revealing multiple genetic variants in 11 significant genes linked to critical functions like mucosal barrier integrity and colonic muscle development.
  • The results suggest that validating these findings with larger, diverse clinical samples and functional studies is essential to understand the genetic factors contributing to CPC better.

Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

February 2024

Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, S.M.S. Medical College and Attached Hospitals, A-1, New Heera Bagh Flats, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302004 India.

Purpose: The round window approach has become the most preferred route for electrode insertion in cochlear implant surgery; however, it is not possible at times due to difficult round window membrane (RWM) visibility. Our study aims to investigate the relationship between preoperative radiological parameters and the surgical visibility of the RWM in Cochlear implant patients.

Methodology: A prospective cross-sectional study of 31 patients, age < 6 years, with bilateral severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss was conducted at a tertiary care hospital.

Vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor is effective in reducing HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) when administered as monotherapy, dual or triple combination therapy. In India, Vildagliptin is commonly prescribed in T2DM patients because it reduces mean amplitude of glycemic excursion (MAGE), has lower risk of hypoglycemia and is weight neutral. Early combination therapy with vildagliptin and metformin is effective and well-tolerated in patients with T2DM, regardless of age or ethnicity.

Background And Purpose: The pathophysiology of postprandial distress syndrome includes impaired gastric accommodation, hypersensitivity to gastric distension and delayed gastric emptying. 2D-ultrasonography is one of the methods to assess gastric accommodation by measuring proximal gastric area and we evaluated its role in calculating proximal gastric area and thus assessing gastric accommodation in Indian patients with postprandial distress syndrome.

Methods: In a hospital-based comparative analysis, proximal gastric area was measured with 2D-ultrasonography of postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) patients and compared with healthy controls.

Background: Unicondylar fracture of distal femur accounts for less than 1% of all femoral fractures. As conservative methods have shown substandard results, traditional surgical treatment includes open reduction and internal fixation by Herbert screws, cannulated screws, and conventional lateral locking plates. Though screw fixation has excellent results over long run, there is literature documenting the loosening and loss of articular congruency in elderly patients and in comminuted fracture patterns.
