Various neurological complications have been linked with vaccines ranging from encephalitis, stroke, ADEM to GBS and many more. Although both viral as well as bacterial vaccines have been reported to cause neurological adverse events, brachial plexitis following vaccination is very uncommon. Vaccination drive against COVID-19 was started on 16th Jan 2021 in India.

Expanding the Understanding of Stiff-Person Syndrome: Insights from 17 Cases in India.

Stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is a rare and complex neurologic disorder characterized by progressive muscle stiffness, painful spasms, and gait difficulties. In this report, we describe a case of SPS who presented with a relapse while on maintenance immunosuppressive treatment. In addition, we review the literature of 16 previously reported cases of SPS from India, highlighting the diverse clinical features, comorbidities, treatment response, and relapse.

Expert eValuation of Efficacy and Rationality of Vildagliptin "EVER-Vilda": An Indian Perspective.

Vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor is effective in reducing HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) when administered as monotherapy, dual or triple combination therapy. In India, Vildagliptin is commonly prescribed in T2DM patients because it reduces mean amplitude of glycemic excursion (MAGE), has lower risk of hypoglycemia and is weight neutral. Early combination therapy with vildagliptin and metformin is effective and well-tolerated in patients with T2DM, regardless of age or ethnicity.

Comparison of Central Fat Accumulation Indices with Body Mass Index in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathic disorder commonly affecting women in the reproductive age group, predisposing them to risk of metabolic syndrome. Currently, body mass index (BMI) is used as a marker to assess obesity. However, it is the central obesity which is a prevalent characteristic of PCOS which goes undetected in many women who exhibit an apparently lean PCOS.

Impaired gastric accommodation in patients with postprandial distress syndrome type of functional dyspepsia assessed by 2D ultrasonography.

Background And Purpose: The pathophysiology of postprandial distress syndrome includes impaired gastric accommodation, hypersensitivity to gastric distension and delayed gastric emptying. 2D-ultrasonography is one of the methods to assess gastric accommodation by measuring proximal gastric area and we evaluated its role in calculating proximal gastric area and thus assessing gastric accommodation in Indian patients with postprandial distress syndrome.

Methods: In a hospital-based comparative analysis, proximal gastric area was measured with 2D-ultrasonography of postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) patients and compared with healthy controls.

Hearing Outcome After Incudo-stapedial Joint Reconstruction Using Conchal Cartilage Interposition Graft.

Ossicular chain defects secondary to Chronic otitis media most frequently involves the incudo-stapedial joint. This study observes the effect of incudo-stapedial joint reconstruction using conchal cartilage interposition graft on hearing of the patient. Fifty-three patients with chronic otitis media of inactive mucosal type with incudostapedial necrosis of less than half of long process of incus were posted for tympanoplasty with incudostapedial joint reconstruction using autologus conchal cartilage.

Management of Distal Femur Unicondylar Fractures by Calcaneal Buttress Plating: A Prospective Interventional Study.

Background: Unicondylar fracture of distal femur accounts for less than 1% of all femoral fractures. As conservative methods have shown substandard results, traditional surgical treatment includes open reduction and internal fixation by Herbert screws, cannulated screws, and conventional lateral locking plates. Though screw fixation has excellent results over long run, there is literature documenting the loosening and loss of articular congruency in elderly patients and in comminuted fracture patterns.

Co-infection of respiratory pathogens in SARS-CoV-2 positive patients at North West India, Rajasthan.

Purpose: Infection due to SARS-CoV-2 shows wide spectrum of disease from asymptomatic to severe disease and death. Coinfection of SARS-CoV-2 with other respiratory pathogens may affect the severity of disease and its outcome. Identification of other respiratory pathogens may help to initiate proper management and avoid unnecessary complications.

Live Ants Lodged in Hypopharynx: An Unusual Case Report.

Unlabelled: Purpose: To compare the two common approaches of cochlear implantations i.e., mastoidectomy with posterior tympanotomy approach (MPTA) and modified veria technique and to know whether veria technique and its later modifications are as efficacious as the classic approach in terms of duration of procedure, gain in hearing and acquisition and incidence of complications if any.

Economic Evaluation of Nucleic Acid Testing for Screening of Blood Donations for Thalassemia Patients (ECONAT) in Western India.

Background: Transfusion Transmitted infections(TTI) are of significant concern for blood safety. The thalassemia patients who receive multiple transfusions are at an increased risk of TTIs and the Nucleic Acid Test (NAT ) has been advocated for safe blood. Though NAT can reduce the window period compared to serology, cost is a constraint.

Lateral Skull Base Lesions: Our Experience of 15 Years.

To analyse and report various aspects of lateral skull base surgery by describing the incidence and demographic variables, diagnostic and management challenges, surgical choices along with complications and their management and the long term morbidity and survival outcomes in our experience of 15 years. Retrospective review of complete records of all cases operated for lateral skull base tumors at a tertiary care teaching institution in India between timespan of 15 years from 2003 to 2018 was undertaken. 53 cases were selected and analysed.

The displaced fragment could hinder the mobility of the knee and may lead joint instabilty; therefore, requires fixation. Arthroscopic suture and screw fixation are the widely used surgical modalities for eminence fractures of the tibia.
